Yes, i remember getting eley bullets in the hardware in Kilcullen 25-ish years ago, and running out of shells while roughshooting and nipping into the hardware beside the courthouse, and garda station in Dunlavin, and buying a box.

Also the biggest city in the country, Dublin, hasn't a single gunmaker or gunshop in it, apart from being able to buy ammo in Rorys fishing tackle in Temple Bar.0 -

Does anyone remember a game fair in Goff's of Kildare maybe very late '70s very early '80s. I seem to remember every second stable decked out as a sporting goods store with firearms, archery and fishing equipment. Thinking back on it there must have been a good number of firearms dealers represented.
Or maybe it was my youthful amazement that made it seem there was more there

I remember my Dad bringing me in there on a family trip to Dublin. I recall him telling me about Watts as being something with a history attached. I mind him chatting to the man in the shop and him talking about winding it down, this would have been circa 1996.

Somthing biker gang related if the story is correct?A Mauser.32 cal[?] vest pistol.FIK they could buy such as gun dealers,but didnt report the circumstances to AGS or that some chacter made such an approach to them.
What I do remember them doing was importing the SPAS12 shotguns and the Armi Jager/Squires Bingham line of .22 lookalikes of the AR15s and others. This is however in the mid-1980s when the "Idontlike de look of dat now!" regined supreme along with the "shure the IRA will use that " mentality. So they were on the shelves for about 3 months,before they were pulled.
Ironically,at the same time the Terminator film was out on general relaese,and coincidentally the ARW and Garda ERU had bought these SPAS12 at the same time;):rolleyes::D. Still have them I belive,the ultra back of the armoury gunrack queens.
Remember this well,as I was busting my gonads,desperatly trying to save up the then HUGE amount of 900 ?punts for one of the SPAS on a relatively good paying job of 60 punts per week.
Yeah Watts on the Quay is sadly missed.:(

You dodged a bullet so to speak, i believe those franchi spas 12's weren't the best ? I remember watts were selling Kestral shotguns, a side by side game gun for either 260 or 290 punts, and i was trying to get the bobs together for one, didn't happen either 0 -

I remember the Kestrel back in the 80,s. A lovely gun, my first shotgun. I couldn't wait to save up so I joined the local credit union and borrowed the £200+ and straight into Murrays in Cork. After a short time the left firing pin snapped but Murrays sorted it quickly. Other than that it never gave trouble again. Murrays is still a great shop and at times I still stare in the window as I did as a kid. I remember saving like mad to buy the heavy duty catapult in the window. Another magnet for anyone of a huntin', shootin', fishin', bent on the same street, Parliament street. I still have the Imperial schrade knife, made in Ireland (Kerry i think) i bought in Reads as a youngster.
