Even if you want Last Rites now it is increasingly difficult to have that, unfortunately. Private hospitals don't generally afford that, and I couldn't even have it for my very religious cousin in the hospice, which was a bit upsetting as far as I was concerned as I knew she definitely had wanted that. They told me there was no priest on call in Harold's Cross. Never have felt that very positive about the place and don't necessarily want to go there if/when it would be appropriate.

Have to disagree with you on the hospice Cat, having had my Nanny and Aunt die there they are amazing people. You can't really blame them on not having a priest to do last rites. A lot of priests now are over 70 so will not go into hospitals, hospices or nursing homes as the risk is too high.

I know this because I work in a nursing home and our local priest will not call. Nothing we can do to control that.

If "so to speak" is added to the list, you'll raise a fortune, so to speak.

Wash Yer Handz would build a children's hospital

Ah yes, I get that. I just wish there had been a chaplain person to say Christian prayers at the time, simply because of the lady's lifelong faith. I know we could have said prayers in theory, but we were in a little bit of shock (she had been chatting and looking quite well very recently) at the time and not quite together at 1am. Quite frankly as a first degree relative I was not afforded the psychological care due, it was very much "you gave to collect the ventilator first thing in the morning". Quite frankly their attitude was appalling. My very dear cousin had me as my next of kin, she was extremely courageous and positive, she had a rapid form of MND, I was quite ill myself at the time.
Other people have contrary experiences, but the line next-of-kin of a single relative is not treated with the same respect as a genetically/maritally closer relative. I was not treated with the respect due to somebody bereaved, not anything of the same respect I have afforded to my library customers who have announced the deaths of relatives, who need to cancel library cards. Quite frankly, Pinkyeye, you may work in the area, and people like yourself have an invaluable role in our society; but you have no clue as to what happened in the case of my family so I respectfully ask to to refrain from further comment.

In fact this has inspired me to write to Harold's Cross Hospice to inform them why I am reluctant to ever become a patient, should I need it. Thanks, Pinkyeye, for bringing it further to my attention. I think end-of-life care is perhaps the best vocation in life, but always needs to be informed by those peripheral to those who directly experience it. :)

Oh btw I am talking about 2015, not Covid times in case you are mistaken about that. Covid times are another thing altogether.

How does this work ladies and gents?

You pick a day, and every nominated Jwoah cliche counts toward a total that we all then commit to donate to a nominated charidee?

    I'd be up for that.

Given my familial experience, my nomination in such a case would/will be:

    https://www.corkcancersupport.ie/

No waste and honest to god support.

Surely the time has come that Liveline can no longer avoid discussing the greatest crisis this country has faced in a century................the disappearance of Fungi.

Even "so to speak" when used incorrectly would raise a fortune.

According to the Merrion Webster dictionary, "so to speak" is used to indicate that one is using words in an unusual or figurative way rather than a literal way. However Joe regularly uses it when speaking literally.

Joe: "So Mary, you were in town so to speak"

I'd love to know if it was the same dolphin all along? Would Sea World gave any for sale they could ship over if a replacement is needed?

I suspect recording it and doing it afterwards would be easier Joe.

I reckon the Healy Rae's have kidnapped Fungi. Fed up with Dingle getting all the tourists and Kilgarvin getting less.

Poor auld Fungi is in Danny Healy Rae's private swimming pool being fed scampi fries by the bucket load.

Most likely not hijacked by the prawn website, but redirected to it by disgruntled user/employee.

I know an post did this freepost thing to nursing homes with the best of intentions, but I hope it doesn't turn into a bit of a cod with sacks of mail and useless items arriving to nursing homes taking up workers time and introducing God-knows-what into the homes. I don't think the experts even know if this virus can survive on paper or other items

Apart from the porn website it's basically another show from circa 1956.

You mean was it thought through?

Have you just arrived in Ireland? :pac:

I feel guilty just ringing my mothers nursing home because I feel like I'm bothering the nurses. I always imagine the nurse has just sat down for a 2-minute breather, but no, this eejit is ringing in wanting to speak to his mother.

I won't be sending anything in because she only has the use of one hand, so will need a nurses help to open a letter or parcel.

That's what I was thinking, what with that and Joe's idea of having hospital trolley lending libraries. Public library books are quarantined for a period before re-lending.
