Can't believe how long he dragged that one for. Basically just repeating himself.

    He does this so often.

"So let me get this straight....." means he is going to repeat your situation out again to pad out some time, despite us having heard it properly 1st time and we don't need it repeated.

Maybe a suitable nursery rhyme so?

Maybe Joe could send her an icepop to celebrate?:

Am sure even the 107 year old would have skipped that poem for an icepop

    I can definitely relate.

My folks made us all go every week til I was about 16 then it was up to us, I don't regret going etc.

I am not sure I believe in God, but that up bringing definitely taught me right from wrong and I hope to be kind and decent to people whenever I possibly can.

My sister really went back to going to mass, while living and working in london. Lovely catholic priest, friendly warm personable and very community linked, it was a world of difference from the priests and structure in my home parrish
Your right I notice expats in Spain going to church. They had no interest in the service but rather to find out local happenings in the chat after. E.g iberdrola or the other ones for the electricity etc.
Sorry I’m behind again, constant listening can be injurious to ones health.

I once contemplated jumping ship to Church of Ireland, my mother sort of was half verging on being a Quaker, after all the scandals, but then we wouldn't have had that commitment to religious community that is asked in other Christian faiths-with the small congregations being slack would get noticed :D
Catholic Church is great for the less committed if one can shed the guilt.

I prefer humanist myself, was converted by that nice doctor on the late late years ago when it was watchable, life before nepotism, if you understand.

OK folks, we need to think about de Liveline Charity Bingo. Personally I will choose de Donkey Sanctuary as my own chosen charity to destination for my proceeds.

We need to choose a few days/week? for de Bingo to be active. We need to choose wurds/phrases by Joe to get marked every time he utters them during the period. Each one earns a small amount, but it all builds up. According to your means, anyone who opts in can donate full total amount, half the amount, double it etc as wished, and send the sum directly to one's chosen charity.

So I propose de following dates to apply:

19th-23rd October (hoping Joe isn't on another breakeen) Will allow charideees to benefit ahead of Christmas.

I propose the following Bingo items:

    € Per utterance by Joe

    "Hospital" €1
    "Death" €1 per
    "Beautiful boy" €1
    "Cancer" €1
"You can't say dat" OR "Don't say dat" €1
    "Pestilence" €1
    "Pain" €1
    "Funeral" €1

    "Sluice gates of Ardnacrusha" €5

Reading out of an apology by Joe himself €10

OTHER SUGGESTIONS / proposals welcome over de Weekend

    This woman is pretty eloquent.

I am a very much lapsed catholic since I was about 16. My folks also very much drifted away with the scandals etc. Gay and happily married now. Much happier having nothing to do with the church. I haven't been to one in years.

I'd be much the same except for the gay bit.

My own mother is terminally ill and hasn't long left. She made it very clear to us last month that she wants absolutely no church or religious trappings at her funeral and doesn't want last rites.

I think a lot of people do similar past a certain age.

Also really sorry to hear about your mother, that must be extremely tough.

Even if you want Last Rites now it is increasingly difficult to have that, unfortunately. Private hospitals don't generally afford that, and I couldn't even have it for my very religious cousin in the hospice, which was a bit upsetting as far as I was concerned as I knew she definitely had wanted that. They told me there was no priest on call in Harold's Cross. Never have felt that very positive about the place and don't necessarily want to go there if/when it would be appropriate.

Most appreciated folks. Thanks very much.

@pc7 I've been down (Tipp) most weekends during the summer and she's been in pretty good form. I don't know how things are going to go if/when we go up a level or two. I'm not looking forward to the trips now the evenings are getting shorter and the weather getting worse. It'll probably come to the stage where I'll be spending more time down there and coming back to Sligo for weekends. We'll have to wait and see how things pan out.

It is really awful to think that JD and the demented button presser RD are getting the guts of a million quid between them.

    For what?

    Answers on a postcard. Please.

I don’t blame them for taking it. I blame RTE for agreeing to pay it.

    Millar?

Sorry I had to leave the thread. If you were referring to the name of the good Doctor well his name was Paddy Leahy. Stood up to the church etc,. by refusing to cease prescribing contraception to those less well off.i.e ladies in the inner city who already had too many kids. (Imagine having to prescribe jonnies ffs). He also helped a lot of people in great pain who asked for help, into the next world. He bravely made no secret of this. I admired Gay for having him on the show from time to time. The church was all powerful then. I subsequently found the good Doctor was related to one of the researchers. In spite of the " Canteen Effect " I still admired the good Doctor.
Sorry if this seems a bit of a ramble but it is late.

I'd take it myself in the morning but I'd try to "earn" it.

I see Ray's mate Will Hannafin is now producing Claire Byrne or the news at one. Cant remember which. Heard him getting a credit while driving during the week.

So peepuls, de above is a draft suggestion. Any tweaking of phrases an dat most welcome.

This coming week when Joe utters a Bingo Wurd, can posters please document it in a post, eg:

    "BINGO DEATH"

If you see somebody else has already highlighted it in a post desist repeating, unless of course there has been another Death etc mentioned in the meantime. The criteria is that Joe has to utter the wurd or phrase, otherwise we'd be bankrupt in no time. In any case we are not counting callers' use of words, the bereavements and sufferings of the callers are respectfully sacrosanct, we are cashing in on Joe's glorious indulgence of his favourite terms.

After de show I will tot up de amount of de show pledged by myself to Donkey Sanctuary, and de entire amount after 3pm on Friday. Thereafter I will go online and send de amount to them.

Lots of charities out there. The Bingo money could be donated or used to make a purchase from their online shops:

    https://www.lauralynn.ie/donate

    https://www.pieta.ie/support-our-work/donate/

    https://imnda.ie/shop/

    https://www.dspca.ie/donate/

    https://www.catsaid.ie/shop/

    https://www.mylovelyhorserescue.com/pages/donate

These are just a few of them. Feel free to mention and send a link to your favourite charity during Liveline Bingo Week.

If "so to speak" is added to the list, you'll raise a fortune, so to speak.
