Can we stop blaming the people. You never get 100% adherence to anything and that should of been expected by the authorities.

The reason we are in this mess is because they didn’t get track and trace right. They had from March until June to get it rolled out and right. If they had been successful we would of tracked down every last case/ contact in June, July, August we would not be where we are today. Small local clusters would be expected not it being absolutely everywhere.

Posts like this are giving government, HSE etc a free pass on their failures. If there is another lockdown we should all be demanding that they get their own house in order if they want the public to buy into restrictions.

Of course we can blame people who have not made any effort to restrict their contacts. There have been cases cited by NPHET to explain some of the ways this virus has been spread recently. Here's one example:

"In this situation, we had in total 30 cases. A couple went on a trip away. They arrived back on day one of the weekend and attended a house party. At this house party they attended, there were eight people, and six out of the eight people became positive with Covid.

"They stayed overnight with a family, and in this household, three out of four in the household became positive, and also three further social contacts of the family became positive.

"One from the couple then, day two of the weekend, went with another group of friends for a dinner party into the town centre. In that dinner party, there were four people, and all four became positive. In the bar-restaurant that that dinner party was, there was a table adjacent to them, and all six members of that adjacent table became positive, and also four staff in that establishment became positive.
The index case, with another friend, then went to another drinks venue to meet a party of four for drinks, and all four became positive."

If that couple had taken the sensible approach with contacts and ensured there was a seven day gap between seeing contacts, then they could have gone on their trip away. Waited a week and then met friends at a house, waited another week and then met relatives etc. If they had done that then they likely would have developed symptoms before meeting new contacts and known to isolate and get tested. There would have been a total of two people infected instead of 30 (that we know of).

Because of selfish ****wits like this we have a multitude of superspreader events and covid 19 cases are rising throughout Ireland. Now we will ALL be denied our weekend visit with our mam, our coffee with our friend, our non-urgent hospital appointment. Because now these things are no longer as safe to do.

If everyone acted responsibly we would have more freedoms, the more people rail against these restrictions the more restrictions will come. Out of necessity not as a punishment.

I’d say the smart money is on this lockdown plus one more in the springtime before hopefully a vaccine starts to be rolled out. I guess if we get enough takers it might mean the autumn lockdown won’t be as severe.

I hope you realise that many of the people whose lives we are trying to save with these lockdowns will have died of other causes by this time next year. But, I suppose, as long as they don’t die from Covid, that’s perfectly OK.

The issue that is not being addressed by Tony and his crew is what we are supposed to do even if we manage to reduce the numbers down to low levels. The proposed 6 weeks at level 5 might stabilise the numbers but what happens then?
    There is no plan.

Of course, there is no plan... half Lockdown, full lockdown, see-saw conditions, panic reactions, wait for an effective vaccine....

So level 5 for 6 weeks, what's the plan after that. Have nphet any plan for what happens then, does the government have a plan. We can't just go into level 5 with no mid term plan never mind long term.

We’ll fly in punxsutawney phil, and have some TD pull him out of a hole in the garden of Aras an Uchtarain to ask him whether there’ll be 6 more weeks of lockdown......

So why would you expect anyone to buy into the idea of shutting down the country for 6 weeks when we haven't even given Level 3 a week in most of Ireland or Level 4 has had two days of a chance in a few counties. WTF is the point in creating a plan if you throw it out the window immediately. It's completely worthless already. All it gives us was a few numbers to describe the apparent severity of the situation. As I stated in my earlier comment, Level 4 essential services and retail were only defined on Wednesday when Level 4 was brought in for a few counties.

Does it not strike anyone as crazy that the idea of going to Level 5 has been out there for nearly two weeks and they haven't even published a list of businesses / sectors that would be allowed open? In all fairness it's difficult to publish a plan ahead of time when you are making it up as you go along, maybe I should cut them some slack.

Again not up to NPHET .
Plan was sh1te to begin with and has been tweaked around since day 1.
In fairness I do agree think they should have ( and maybe were ?) been planning away for this behind the scenes since last Sunday week , just buying time until they had the budget out of the way and public more on board ?

    There is no plan.

Get the numbers down and enforce the restrictions from lower levels so the muppets don't lose the run of themselves and drag us all back to more surges.

In fairness very hard to plan with NPHET,couple of weeks ago most counties didn't have to go to level 3 and two days later they wanted a country wide level 5

the big problem is and nobody seems to want to give an answer is what happens when we go level 5 for a month then back to level 2 in january /februaruy when case numbers fall to 20-30 a day, as they will. when level 2 comes again numbers will shoot up again in march, so is it back to level 5 restrictions next march and into summer , everything cancelled again? or do they say once vaccine is available in march earliest, that oh we have vaccine all restrictions lifted now up to you joe public to get vaccinated. now march is very optimistic for the ordinary irish person to get hands on vaccine, so are we looking at all next year wrote off as well on level 2-4 lockdowns every 2-3 months?

Depends on how fast sport, schools, etc reopem and with what modus operandi

A fortnight ago I said that I'd eat my hat if we don't end up eventually in level 5, but with by then even worse case numbers.

Looks like I won't have to eat it, but I will eat if schools will remain open. As much as the government says today that they will I'm pretty damn certain that schools will eventually close just like everything else. All they are doing is sticking to that line for now, just give it time.

When you see that huge dip from June for 3 months and then the spike in late September looks like it is a very seasonal disease. Problem is that 9 months of the year it looks to be thriving.

Sneaky oul virus, false sense of security during summer and the ramps up just when people get complacent.

Yes I know viruses don't strategise like this but looks like with human nature Covid 19 found a match made in heaven.

Very sneaky eh? It's almost like the Virus knew that it wasn't summer anymore and the temps were dropping for the start of Autumn when we start to get more colds and flu... what do they call that? Seasonal illness or?

Why are you quarantining until the 26th?

Kids and wife are close contacts so have to stay put till then.

Not much point in them isolating if I go outdoors when my own period of isolation finishes up tomorrow.
