Google level five Ireland for Christs sake

Moving on from your smartass response. Essential services and retail for Level 4 were only published on Weds. There is no equivalent list for Level 5 available anywhere, presumably we have to wait until it's sprung upon us to find out. Why would we allow businesses to plan for the eventuality when we can drag out the suspense?

Hearing lots of restaurants/bars in town closing early tonight at full capacity. Asking people to leave.

Reckon they have been given a heads up?

That makes no sense, would they not try to use up their stock and make some money.

Another WhatsApp is it? Why would a restaurant/bar just close halfway through serving people,That doesn't make sense at all

That's totally disingenuous! Wexford, Cavan and Meath county finals which seem to be the ones closely associated with outbreaks were played on the 3rd and 4th of October. The scenes at Cork hurling final were also on the 04th October.

Activity was suspended on the 05th October. Notably Donegal and Cork Football finals have yet to be played.

Although I agree re Inter County it would be the best course of action not to continue with it given the escalation in cases in the past fortnight.

What's disingenuous about it? It's fact. We saw the antics here locally a few weeks ago and have a rash of cases now (including at least one death) . We saw the same in a neighbouring parish. GPs in Monaghan and Cavan have seen a direct link between club finals and a surge in cases. And it's not just Senior men's finals that were responsible - junior, intermediate.......

Kind of obvious they suspended club matches after the damage had been done.

No wonder Halloween is cancelled, although true story in China people with covid were rubbing their saliva on lift buttons to spread it....

Feck it anyway, I was planning to dress up as a pangolin for Halloween and my OH as a bat and frighten the bejasus out of people.

That is true. Owner or pub/shop caught doing it then close it down under Health and Safety Infringement.
Enforcement of isolation is key. If we can get it right then we can live with things like masks, social distancing.

    That's the big problem .
There is no enforcement at all.
Bars infringing guidelines , and caught , have been allowed to reopen and carry on.
Same with crowds gathering drinking and sure, forget houseparties !
So who knows if level 5 would have any effect at this stage .
Those that are complying are already locking down pretty much .

I can add to this point in an informed way which will hopefully help the level of understanding and discussion.

A better appreciation of the covid situation can be grasped if the state of the health service itself is recognised as being unrelated to the issue.
The health service has its weaknesses, but it is an unhelpful and distracting narrative to portray this as significant in the performance of the country in its actions against covid. Those espousing it, are either ill infomed, or wilfully misrepresenting the position in order to further an ulterior motive. While of course, the extreme cases end up in the care of the HSE, and I mean in no way to dismiss the importance of caring for them to our utmost, in the context of control of the pandemic, they are statistically irrelevant. The struggle against such a virus is won or lost by the actions and controls undertaken by society as a whole, and the timing, balance, and mix of measures implemented at the politicial level. I am happy to clarify by personal message to any readers unclear or enquiring further on this matter.

(forum moderators: perhaps this posting could be made a sticky or key post or such to help others with this same misunderstanding, as it seems to arise repeatedly from what I read here and the in the related fora.)

Was there supposed to be a pearl of wisdom in there that I missed? The health service is the no 1 problem here.

This virus may well be around for years, or always be around, like the various other viruses that we have not eradicated because of how easy they are spread by normal people. People doing normal things. Things that can only be put on hold for so long because we live in a society. We are social creatures, love cramming in together for events, celebrations, nights out, dining, sports, concerts (remember them?), films, relationships, hooking up, travel, catching up. Our workplaces are often quite social places too.

How long can we simply just exist, and not live life to the full. There must be a balance. Not everyone will see out another lockdown, let alone frequent panicky ones that seem to be the only game in town.

I personally am sick of it. It would make it a little more credible if we were even told what the numbers need to be for x to happen and what they need to be to exit that situation, but no, we have had 6 months of leaks, scare tactics, dogma and condescension.

So please enlighten us. No need for PMs!

I heard a story about a group of Chinese on a plane last February who soiled themselves instead of using the toilet for fear of catching covid. I guess they take this sh1t more serious than we do.

So level 5 for 6 weeks, what's the plan after that. Have nphet any plan for what happens then, does the government have a plan. We can't just go into level 5 with no mid term plan never mind long term.

How many cases would there be in Ireland now if there were no masks? Anyone seen any research? I presume the answer is the exact same amount.

Yeah but they should really have scrapped under-age inter-county too, harder for school-age kids in particular to socially distance.

I thought all were except seniors?
