To be fair Gerry Killeen isn't much better predicting 20k deaths.

The underlying death rate about 0.5% at the moment. Doesn’t take a genius to work out that that’s 20,000 deaths if 4million are infected and the same level of treatment is maintained

Not Luke O'Neill himself, but Barclays, who as you can imagine are adequately resourced to comprehensively examine the possibility of such.

You'd be amazed at the level of reliable forecasting you can get on non financial subjects from the research departments of global investment banks. They have a lot of skin in the game and need to accurately assess risk.

What decision? They've just put three counties at Level 4 and tweaked Level 3.

239 of those cases aren't from today must be close to a record number for daily backlog cases?
For all we know there could be a similar number to be reported in future days relating to today.

Can we install Tony as leader for the duration of the crisis?

He has the benefit of not having to be elected so he can sort out the yoof and the GAA.

I agree. His track record is flawless. His treatment of nursing homes in March was impeccable, his handling of cervical check outstanding. Can we nominate him for a Nobel peace prize, special achievements include destroying lives and livelihoods.

School children are being swabbed at a higher rate than other age groups. There is no hiding for them as the schools are monitoring temps, sniffles etc. No other age groups are overseen in such a manner.

You might think it's obvious but the data is not on your side.

Speaking as a teacher unfortunately there is no temperature checking happening in my school or any school that my friends work in. Have had children come in several times already feeling sick and telling me that they had told their parents that they felt unwell before school and were told to see how they feel throughout the day. The majority of parents are very cautious but it's not always the case.

Lots of commentary about schools on this thread, so I thought I'd post this again (previously posted on the schools thread).

It's a twitter thread about infection rates by age, using ONS data in the UK (random population sample, unbiased by testing rates/symptoms etc).

It shows how the infection rate in primary school children is increasing at a much slower rate than overall. At secondary school, the picture isn't as good, but still much better than young adults (where infection rates have gone through the roof). It's UK data, but their approach is similar to ours. It's very clear what is driving infection rates and it's definitely not schoolchildren. Worth a read.

Yup. And the heat map of spread across age groups in my previous post also shows the same. Schools not a driver of spread.

Is there a source for daily ICU numbers? I'd like to see the numbers for the last 2 months. Cheers.

and this pandemic will bring this into sharper focus to our people,

death is just a step away, an unfortunate diagnosis or a bad call

Our mortality is important and lots of people have forgotten this...

we are mortal beings and must make the most of now...

They should upload the slides each day before they start to some centralised source.

Yes - but seems charts/slides being produced at very last minute. The stress must be mighty but they should try to get it sorted as some of us are wound up enough already than to be listening to them discussing invisible charts and graphs!

      The Irish Times says:

"So I can’t meet with anyone outside my household?

You can. In outdoor settings away from your home/garden, up to six people from no more than two households can meet while maintaining strict social distancing, including for outdoor exercise and dining."

But I can't strictly socially distance from someone I'm having lunch with.

Seriously though if people pressing doorbells is significant then people touching the mangoes in the supermarket is significant.
