The latest Health Service Executive figures show there are 238 patients being treated today, an increase of 24 on last night.

The number of people in intensive care units has fallen slightly to 29.

As of 8pm last night, there were also 100 suspected cases of the virus in hospitals, of which 11 were in ICUs.

How can there be 11 people in icu with suspected covid. Should they not be turned around quickly? Did they all just arrive that day? Or is it a case of anyone who arrives into hospital or icu is a suspect until they’ve been tested?

This has been explained several times - everyone admitted is a suspected case until their test result is back - then they are either a covid patient or a non-covid patient.

Massive drop in the numbers in North of Ireland after 1st day of restrictions. Over a thousand yesterday and less than 800 today. Incredible

Not related to restrictions, its way too early for that to kick in.

I don't think it's a good idea to rummage through the hospital and ICU data looking for positives while the cases are rising steadily.

If you find something that looks like stabilisation, well, it probably isn't.

I can't think of a single positive reason why hospital numbers would stabilise naturally right now, but I can think of a few negative ones - for instance what if they've become stricter on who gets admitted for fear of being overwhelmed?

Wow, that's a real 'glass is half full' attitude there, bet your great fun at parties

Did tests fall or did the positivity rate fall?

The positivity rate was nearly 20% , if they had tested more that figure would of been significantly higher unfortunately

Well it is when all these people would actually have been tested BEFORE the new restrictions came in!

It's definitely a coincidence. The restrictions won't show in the numbers in 24 hours.

Edit - The restrictions aren't even in place yet.

It has to be a coincidence, cases announced today were probably tested a couple of days ago so probably got infected a week ago

Not everyone who gets admitted gets tested, but a large proportion do.

Any effect of restrictions won't be seen for at least 10 days and that's at the absolute earliest. Cases being recorded now would have been initially infected before restrictions were put in place.

And he tells people what they want to believe and backs it up with misinterpreted stats, presented quasi-convincingly. No surprise to see people taken in by him.

Can you send us the link to your YouTube channel where you convincingly show us where he's wrong and how badly he has misread official reports and graphs, I think it's very important that he is shown to be as bad as you say he is?

Australia has gone full stasi, with a pregnant woman being dragged out of her house to be arrested for putting up an anti-lockdown facebook post. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-54007824

You do realise that the majority of Australia has been living a very normal life for the last 4 months? Even majority of people in Melbourne support the police and that lady got what she deserved and some think they didn’t go far enough.

The police in in Australia are actually real police ...they are not like the Guards where most people who not following the guidelines don’t really take them that seriously.

Who needs expert opinion when we can have Ivor Cummins and Justin Barrett?

Can you tell us exactly how a chemical engineer with a YouTube channel talking about Covid figures and the leader of a far right nationalist party are the same as you've said in your statement here?

They both talk nonsense about COVID and are treated as authorities on the subject by headbangers.

Oh yea, I see, practically indistinguishable!

CEO of HSE said testing capacity is now 18,000 per day or 126,000 per week

I reckon we need at least 1/2 million tests per week and 5000+ people assigned to tracking the virus. Local teams assigned to small areas. Another lockdown won't solve the problem. unless we are actively chasing down the virus and forcing quarantine on those that have it, this virus will get the better of us.
Of course the false positive and negatives would require multiple tests. We should all be treated like we were Premiership football players. Maybe not Man Utd.

Large spike in my local area again , kildare Laois border all stems from nursing home in Portlaoise who’s patients were transferred to Portlaoise hospital. Big enough number of staff off sick waiting on results and I know a number of nurses who’s families are also waiting on results but have symptoms.
You would wonder how staff became infected if following proper procedures especially when the patients were from a known cluster in the nursing home or why they were put into a general ward which is now shut.
