CMO: There have been 5,000 positive cases over the past 24 hours. We are calmly considering the current situation

Reporter: Are you not concerned or worried about the rapid increase of cases?

CMO: Like I said, we are calmly considering the situation and we are urging everyone to wash their hands, wear masks etc

    I assume this is BS?

Looks like a linear graph to me (from first week in September)....

    Look at the y-axis...

Just had it confirmed there that the rise in cases in the CUH is an outbreak, porter tested positive which was followed by 12 further positives in patients. Hospital management are very pleased with the low number of admissions, majority of current patients caught it in the ward where the outbreak is.

The distance between 2 and 3 is not the same as the distance between 4 and 5, so it's not linear, it's logarithmic

Hopefully not a ward with particularly vulnerable patients.

Why are Gardai stopping and delaying truck drivers? Massive delays costing businesses a fortune. How does that prevent COVID-19?

How there isn't more up roar about this is beyond me, gardai actually going out of their way to disrupt already struggling workers and businesses.

"The next 24 hours are crucial" - Mary Lou. What happens in 24 hours? I thought it was the next 2 weeks that were critical?

Naill that’s a log axis. I know exactly what it means. You clearly don’t. A strait line on a log axis is a exponential fit. Read a book

Well could you please label your graphs correctly in future. Why would you use it anyway, your counting up in 1 percent at a time. Your supposed to use it when you have skewness to large values.

    What school is that?

    Heard of it as well.

I don't know the name but my partner a teacher was talking about it.

Past colleague of hers, teaches there.

Isn't everyone in any hospital ward, vulnerable at risk

A percentage is a small number. Doesn’t mean it cannot increase exponentially. I’m sorry you couldn’t understand it, I can’t help you. You assumed I didn’t know what I was talking about so I won’t be doing anything to please you.

Now that you know that the positivity rate is increasing exponentially. What do you think about that?

Not necessarily. If you're in for say an ENT procedure, eye procedure or some relatively low impact illness and are in good health, you're probably not at big risk.

The problem in a major hospital like CUH is you'll have highly specialist cancer services which would mean people with very weak immunity and you've also got a major cardiovascular surgery unit and also areas like neurosurgery and so on.

Not every ward or area of a hospital is the same risk.

Yeah that's fair, but some patients would be especially vulnerable depending on condition and treatment.

Is it really a good idea to release that information!? I mean you could end up with a traffic offence and crime spree if they assume there are no gardai around.

    I'm all for transparency, but ... !?!
