I wish our politicians and media spokespeople, epidemiologists, commentators et al would stop saying everything Covid is 'deeply worrying', 'very worrying', 'very concerning' etc.

Worrying is pointless. It might make the politicians look all serious and grave but it does sweet feck all for anyone.

    To quote 'Psychology Today:
Worry is the excess emotion that remains after all reasonable measures are taken to safeguard your family and personal interests. Worry may actually drive you to make bad decisions, such as in the case of adopting any new health fad that comes along irrespective of evidence supporting its effectiveness or potential for harm. Worrisome thinking increases anxiety but does not help you focus on finding effective solutions.

Enough of the 'worry'. We need proper calm short and medium term planning, honest and open communication and a balance between our health needs and our economic needs.
    Very well said

But you're worry-free and relentlessly incorrect?

Just a quick question... maybe a stupid one.

What's the point of these check points? I went through 2 today and while I have a letter from work I wasnt asked for it. Also both check points asked where was I going. I said home. And both gards just said. Ok enjoy your day...

What are they trying achieve by these check points ? With no evidence of where I came from or was going... what's the purpose to stop folks coming home from work

Optics really. They have no authority to turn you around if leaving your county. Just make sure the screen is fully loaded.

A friend of mine lives close to the Louth/Meath border. House in Louth, Kids' school in Meath. Every day she goes through a checkpoint on the way to/from the school. They look at the Discs every time.

Whats your point? I have told you were the outbreak in west Cavan originated. Nothing whatsoever to do with the border. I believe those are cases per 100000 in those counties. Considering their isn't 100000 in them it's slightly misleading.

The figures aren't much use unless you show them per capita or per 100,000. The populations. For example, you're hearing Donegal and Cork have a lot of cases in commentary.

344 cases in Donegal would be the equivalent of 1173 cases in Cork or 2911 in Dublin.

The absolute case numbers per county are completely pointless for regional comparison.

The positivity rate has been increasing exponentially since halfway through the first week in September.

I live here and can honestly say I don’t know why our numbers have been so low.

I actually stopped going to one of the shops mentioned in this piece. The owner talks as if they have been awesome at compliance but they are a bit of a joke, certainly in comparison to Aldi and Tesco. Young children always hanging around that place and very little social distancing in store.

The beach is fairly popular, perhaps that helps. Maybe we don’t get as many visitors from outside the village. Also we have prob a fairly youngish population (a lot of new houses) and many who may work from home during crisis.

I do also wonder if the extra supermarket (Aldi) opened up at the right time, where it’s given locals more options for shopping.

I’d be very surprised if this “town that kept Covid out” will continue to be relatively Covid free.

I'm beginning to think all these figures are pointless to be honest. It's like sports report on BBC Radio 2 back in the 80s, listening to the Radio saturday evening to see how your team done only to be disappointed nearly every time.:o

Even if I wasnt though... I'm hardly gonna say I came from galway to go to brown Thomas for a pair of slippers... lol

Imo I think they are just trying to get gards doing these pointless checks to make it look like they are doing something. I go to work and come home. I havent seen my mother in months as she is elderly and I havent a clue if I have c19 or had it. These gards could be used so much better for people that like my mother need help with simple little things like going to get groceries. If the government are so interested in the elderly staying alive as it seems to effect them more than the younger population. I dont see the point in check points if this is how they are conducted. Sorry for the rant I just dont understand it

Why are Gardai stopping and delaying truck drivers? Massive delays costing businesses a fortune. How does that prevent COVID-19?

He could well be proved right, but what a gamble to take if the medical and science people are right and it all goes pear shaped for the hospitals.

Donnelly came out last week when he was asked a similar question about not following nphets advice.
His answer was classic, he said that if it is the wrong choice it won't be anybodys fault. He stated that it would be the viruses fault.

CMO: There have been 5,000 positive cases over the past 24 hours. We are calmly considering the current situation

Reporter: Are you not concerned or worried about the rapid increase of cases?

CMO: Like I said, we are calmly considering the situation and we are urging everyone to wash their hands, wear masks etc

Naill that’s a log axis. I know exactly what it means. You clearly don’t. A strait line on a log axis is a exponential fit. Read a book

I know of a school in Cork that is down 14 teachers today as they're all in self isolation. Good luck keeping schools open when all the teachers can't go in

    What school is that?
