It would make sense as for all intents and purposes Donegal for example is integrated into the greater Derry City sphere of influence. Especially the east of the county. It’s almost like the relationship between West Cork & Cork City in terms of distances.

I think many people in Dublin, Cork and elsewhere think of Donegal as isolated because it’s far away from the big urban centres in the Republic, but parts of it are basically in Derry’s close commuter belt.

My 62 year old neighbour contracted the virus, two weeks off work. Not a bother since.

You seem to make things up to fit around what you like. You have a wife that worked throughout the lockdown in a shop that was completely unaffected and then a wife who sat at home claiming the PUP. So continue on to ignore long covid and young people affected because if your 62 year old friend.

You're right, absolutely noone should post a comment about a positive outcome. Please forgive me.
Unfortunately she is the only person I know that contracted the virus and happily she made a full recovery.

I know an older person who has died and also an older person who has made a full recovery, some refuse to accept there’s positive outcomes too

Your implying it's posters here fault they are dead that's absolute hyperbole. It got in through visitors or staff. If you want to blame anyone which you shouldn't as it's uncontrollable blame them.

    Can't have friends over
    Can't make new friends
    Can't cross the county border
    Can't see pretty girls smiles
    Can't party
    Can't go for a swim
    Can't go to the gym
    Can't go to the pub
    Can't go to match
Can't take the kids trick or treating
    Can't go to festivals
Can't have a work Christmas party

I could go on, this is insanity. Sitting around waiting for a vaccine God knows when if ever.

    Hi mon ami,

The worst case scenario is going to happen here so you will just end up depressed if you keep focusing on the positives.

Accepting the world has changed is better than denying it has. What was normal in December 2019 is not returning.

It's better to accept it in my humble opinion.

No, you are part of the problem.

If you wear your mask, keep your distance and scrub your hands you will likely not get infected.

Stop being part of the problem, start being part of the solution.

    What are you on about??

You know absolutely nothing about me so who do you think you are to preach about me being the problem ??

I wear my mask, keep good hand hygiene and maintain social distance, I'm doing my part to keep myself, my family and others safe, so stop talking out your arse when you've absolutely no idea what I do so please don't be telling me I'm part of the problem when I'm following guidelines.

Careful getting down off your high horse

    What’s he harrumphing about today?

That he saw a jogger on kiliney beach who wasn’t wearing a mask and his plumes might waft a mile over to Pat?. ( As he explained the full theory of pluming ).

    Scotland: 961 case, no deaths.
    359 in Glasgow & Clyde.

    Positivity rate of 17.1%

Scotland's positivity rate shot from 5% to 11.5% in six days. I think this has happened in many euro countries but the data is hard to come by.
And I'm pretty sure we're on a similar trajectory ourselves, hopefully the impact from the nationwide restrictions will eventually curtail the growth.

If we do shoot up to say 11.5% within days, then we'll be looking at 1,725 positive swabs from 15,000 tests

221 in hospital this morning. This is going to be the trend for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it will level off and decline at end of the month.

    https://twitter.com/newschambers/status/1315573220607774720?s=21

That’s all very odd. Yesterday they reported 2204 over 65s in hospital ( cumulative since start).

The day before it was 1992. So 212 over 65s hospitalised overnight. And today we have a total of 221 in hospital.

Are we really expected to believe that 96% of all patients are over 65?

Talk of moving the Border Counties to Level 4.
Does that mean that the like of Smyths, Woodies, Clothes shops, Book Shops etc would close?

2004 is the number up to Midnight Friday 9th for over 65's
221 is the amount of people of all ages in hospital as of 8am this morning, 20 admission and 4 discharges .

Essential retail and businesses that are primarily outdoors only can remain open. All other retail and personal services closed.

All the border counties or just Donegal and Cavan?

Lads does anyone know why Bookies are allowed open?

I wasn't aware that they were open but apparently they are.

    Makes no sense at all.

The number of over 65s hospitalised up to yesterday as per Covid stats site was 2204.

That is an increase of 212 on previous day.

So if (if) their figure is correct then it follows that 212 NEW over 65s were hospitalised in that 24 hours.

And I don’t believe that for a minute.

    Yes.

Retail and services (for example: hairdressers, beauticians, barbers)
    Face coverings must be worn.

Essential retail and businesses that are primarily outdoors only can remain open. All other retail and personal services closed.

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/dc29a-level-4/#retail-and-services-for-example-hairdressers-beauticians-barbers

Very little difference for retail between Levels 4 and 5 - for the latter the primarily outdoors businesses are also closed.

Headline just says Border Counties but when you read it, it is talking about Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan.

I can't see them doing it as if Dublin cases rise they'll have to hold them to the same pillar. Remember level 3.5, they know it could cause chaos on the streets.
