Even if level 3 stabilises like it looks like it has in Dublin. With no further growth, were now stabilising at 900ish cases a day. Considering there's likely to be more growth before we start stabilising, it's clear to me that something has to come on to actually reduce the rate as our hospitals will be fecked at this daily case load over a sustained period

Unless I’m reading the hub wring the numbers look fairly static today. A few admitted but also some discharges. Open to correction though

Typical of NPHET and the Dublin media's response so far, focusing on meaningless headline numbers for shock and awe terrorist tactics. They don't give a **** about the people of Ireland because they're getting paid handsomely regardless.

Something gone seriously wrong in Cavan and I'd put money on it centering around the hospital, the numbers in Cavan hosptial rocketed very suddenly

So not only did we hit 1k cases today, but we also still have a backlog of like 400 cases right?

It was only 150 in hospital a few days ago (Wednesday I think) so that's a growth or 40 in 3 days.

He appears to be the only person at the top who’s not afraid to acknowledge the realities we are facing into, and the only person willing to take measures in order to mitigate or avoid the eventual catastrophe we are hurtling towards. He is the antithesis of Trump. What you are suggesting is outrageous.

Comparing him to Trump is wrong but I’m not a fan of Holohan. Seems incredibly cautious to me and doesn’t seem to care much about the effects of this pandemic on people beyond the virus itself.

Border county too, given that the North appears to have lost control it's bound to affect the bordering regions

I think at this stage it's time for Tony Holahan to address the nation ...cos if we allow relaxations here there and everywhere..this virus will jst overwhelm our health service..circuit breaker immediately for two weeks see how it goes...or we are doomed.

If cases continue by the end of next week we will know it is down to the schools.

Nice to read the narrative in IT is changing though emphasising that it’s not case numbers we should be focused on, and the levels of testing are well above what they were in Mar/Apr eg. I read this week UK testing has increased 20-fold since March which contributes to why so many cases are being found.

    Roll on budget day Tuesday!

    So what the solution?

Close construction, retail, barbers etc which have a very low impact on numbers?

NPHET provides public health advice. They cant change the virus, or the rate of transmission.

Being ang9et at them is like being angry at a weather forecaster because they've told you it's going to rain.

His job is public health. That's literally his only remit

It won’t be for two weeks, that’s what they fed us March and it was for 7 weeks

I wonder is closing pubs and restaurants in towns beside the border might drive people into the out of control north....

    1,012 cases huh.
Just go into level 4/5 lockdown already. It's rising too fast.

... And for those who don't want that lockdown? look there is gonna be one at some point. Wouldn't it be best to do it now for 3 or 6 weeks so things can be reopened for Christmas and certain people won't be alone for Christmas?

Level 5 lockdown. Gets the cases down and back open for Christmas.

Leo made a huge fool of himself.

No he didn’t. Jesus Christ, does there always have to be a big winner and loser?

Leo articulated very well why we weren’t moving to level 5 last week. The measures the government has implemented also haven’t had a chance to work yet. Had they implemented level 5 on Tuesday, we’d still have had 1000 cases today.

No point in being knee jerk but..

If you work in a precarious job or in the hospitality/retail sector, get ready to have your job disappear again and be back to the PUP.

Although Lockdown is inevitable at this stage for a couple of reasons (our underfunded HSE unable to cope, and our Track and Trace creaking), it’s really weird to see people practically begging for it though. So many peoples lives will be irreparably damaged and changed over night. But hey, their chances of getting Covid might fall. And that’s all that really matters.

Just think some on here could spare a thought for people left out of work, isolated and lonely in the coming weeks when level 5 happens. Covid isn’t the only thing that can damage people’s lives.

I do feel sorry for these people and really hope that the Government puts the financial supports in place to help them.

But a group I'm more worried about are healthcare workers, they will be facing into going in day in day out to high risk environments. Worrying about getting sick and bringing it back to their families. Seeing patients suffer and having to make impossible decisions about care. When all of this is said and done I can see thousands of them walking away from the job (especially those in nursing homes). the mental effects of this on those workers will be huge.

If it continues past tomorrow I'll be calling my GP Monday morning tbh.

If you or anybody in your family think It’s getting really bad goto hospital. My brother in law got a savage dose in feb (ended up in coma). Had ambulances out twice and both times they said he wasn’t bad enough to goto hospital.

Also, start taking Origen levels, take your pulse and temp regularly and record data. Then if you need to contact a doctor or hospital you can give them more accurate information. I’ve heard it before that when a person says “I feel awdul@ that medical people take that to mean they have a mild case of something. Supplying actual medical data is the objective truth and tells them more accurately where you are.

    Take care of Yourself.

i'm okay with rolling lockdowns given the assumption that we will get a vaccine early next year. if that doesn't happen, then we need to talk about opening up and living with this thing.

Yes we need to hear from our dear leader. Why did we bother with that general election at all when we had Tony on the throne.

And the government tried to tell us that Tony Holohan's position was untenable! Good lord

Leo made a huge fool of himself.

I'll agree on this, governments are supposed to govern and NPHET advise. What Leo did, while it might strike the right chord with some was very ill-advised and I'd expect better from a former medical professional.

Same goes for Ciara Kelly too.

Reminds me of the its only clusters talk. The hospital numbers have spiked up significantly in the last 2 days. No point in being positive just for the sake of it. Its very short sighted to just look at ICU numbers and think everything is ok.

Being short sighted is the name of the game for a lot of them in this thread:

"This indicator, which is clearly inevitably going to change, is currently doing okay so there is no need for concern. Next week I will be looking elsewhere for my crumbs of comfort. "

Check locally for issues arising from a recent football county final and the great time that was had by all afterwards and where the family members of the people involved work etc
