Anyone else getting a real nervous feeling lately like in March? There's such an impending feeling of uncertainty that's upsetting my tummy, not for getting sick or dying but just what life will be like in another 6 months, christmas etc.

    Instinct.

    Its bad alright.

Im just hoping that a vaccine is approved before Xmas.

Even if it takes till May or June to be rolled out at least the end is in sight.

Threw together a very crude page that will grab the stats without needing to do the maths here. Just pulls the data straight from the government API.

The main reason I would be nervous at the moment, is that with numbers like that appearing in NI, there can be a rare condition that runs side by side with covid19 that affects children. We saw it happening in England last June, and also New York and Montreal.
That's Kawasaki and they are aware of it and watch out for it. As for numbers we probably need to look at Dublin for indications as it's been the longest at Level 3. Nolan says it's too early to say on it although some posters have been claiming a decline. If it does go down pretty soon then we might, just might stay at this level. If not then we can probably expect Level 4 to happen.

So we're going to see #857 in the next hour or so?!

Nobody knows any more! It could around that, a lot higher or a bit lower.

In a way I feel a bit better as I am more prepared now both practically and in terms of having an idea of what is to come. But on the other hand dreading it.

I think will see around 700 from yesterday.

If not then tomorrow could be over 1000

Anyone remember when Czech Republic were the star child on Prime Time etc.. back in March? they had Czech doctors on lecturing us about mask wearing etc..

Yup and I remember the two Muppets in the studio nearly laughing at them. Yet still better outcome on the death count.

Plus don't forget one thing, Czech rep. was basically fully open since June, while we still playing never ending half arsed restriction game.

Hit the switch to keep the lights on.

I'll wager the event doesn't go ahead.

Probably as things stand it will. The organization have a LOT of say and sway in and around political life, a few TD’s are ‘friends’. If things take a nosedive health-wise sure it won’t as restrictions won’t allow it but if the heath situation is plateaued to around what we have now...hmmm we shall see

Level 4/5 hybrid is guaranteed to happen. It was pretty much guaranteed since July, only the timing was up for question.

    Cabinet are just buying time.

Schools will be closed for minimum 3 weeks.

The hope is they get rid of the complete nonsense of closing all non essential retail and publish newer guidelines in keeping customers and especially staff safer.

Of course the surveillance that they said they might look into last week, would be pretty handy now if it had been implemented 3 months ago, we may know what to keep open.

NPHET recommended schools stay open in there level 5 letter on Sunday

That was if we went to Level 5 on Monday. By the time we do actually get to Level 5, the situation will be much worse and there will be no choice but to close the schools. In my opinion.

In all probability yes something like this, but it's that call on Monday that gives them the time. I think that seems a bit long for schools but for me a full Level 5 is something they want to avoid.

    No they didn't.

NPHET stated in the letter if we want to have a chance at keeping schools open we go to level 5 last Monday midnight, they also said that may not be enough to keep them open.

I also remember a poster over on the “will you travel?” thread a couple of months ago on his holidays posting daily updates and photos saying what a great time he was having over there, saying life was pretty much back to normal, attending a music festival amongst other things.

We'll see, I think the Unions will be their big issue in trying to keep the schools open.

And in fairness, at that point if it's not deemed safe for people to move 5KM beyond there home by NPHET I wouldn't blame them. Think it was a major consideration in the government rejecting the proposal, along with the mass additional unemployment.

NPHET recommended schools stay open in there level 5 letter on Sunday

The nphet terms of reference were to recommend restrictions that would allow schools and non covid health care to continue as normal.

With the government ignoring nphet advice the possibility of schools closing and non covid healthcare cancellations are back on the table.

The call on Monday guaranteed school closures and a curtailment of non covid health care.

The 2 core priorities that were to be protected above all else has changed.

NPHET are playing chess with this, the government and the HSE are playing checkers.

    Paul Reid went from Monday

    Ah actually we are not

Yes I spoke with my mother and a plan of ‘tough love’ will be the way forward. Has to be done.

His fûcking dopey yet similarly religiously brainwashed sister however will be no doubt “ahh it’s a few hours, Christmas David, and the men and woman need a dig out come on, be over before you know it”

It’s almost like NPHET have access to lots more information and indicators than commentators on the internet do......

Joking aside, surely if case numbers approach 1k per day and the associated increase in admissions becomes a reality, it’s only a matter of time before Micheál has a very uncomfortable press conference to do ?
Or will Dublin potentially stabilising buy us more time to see if Level 3 works ?

Ok so you agree then that in the letter we would have moved to phase 5 and schools would remain open for the time being at least.

Industrial action would also more than likely have occurred if following that recommendation from NPHET.

I'm not convinced that when we do move to a higher level ( I agree on that much) they won't try to keep schools open then either.

A kite is already flying that mid term break will be extended. Teachers are communicating this to parents.
