They had a massive outdoor dinner/festival on the main bridge in Prague to celebrate having beaten the virus iirc

As a country overall it is doing the worst now in Europe, also NI aswell if you count is similarly. Every single region of CZ has high caseload, in most other countries just certain regions affected

Guess complacency may have set in. Could part explain the North too. They were doing fairly well for a while. Shows how even a few weeks can seriously increase cases.

It seem this week case total will include a few 100 German lab historical test results. Either way we have 2,067 cases in the 4 days reported this week. We are heading towards our highest Monday to Sunday total since April 20th to 26th when it was 4,011 that week.

Back in April 26th we had 770 in hospital and 120 in ICU

Today according to the data hub its 179 in Hospital and 30 in ICU.

Or is it the dry tinder analogy, other areas got burnt earlier, those that didn't on fire now? Who knows! All I know is Covid sucks balls! I'm sick of it!

Was talking to a colleague in Madrid this morning at 7.40 local. He was getting on the metro and told me it was packed.

    I am not surprised.

Back in April the hospitals had been emptied (at the expense of people with other illnesses) to deal with Covid patients. The hospitals are not empty now. That's the big issue.

16,522 tests last 24hrs. Yesterday 15,888. Extra 3,000 from where?
    You should ask Paul Reid.

Well, let's empty the hospitals again then!!

    Only covid related illnesses count!!

They've admitted opening up too fast. They even had a party in May, when we were barely allowed outside the door.

Silly suggestion. I guess you are being facetious People still getting heart attacks, cancers and every other serious ailment. They need to be treated too.

Therein lies our dilemma though. CAPACITY

No, they went apeshít. Thought they had defeated the virus.

It’s exponential. What’s the R0 number in NI?

Unfortunately thats how densely populated cities like Madrid function, there is no other way for people to get to work, school etc.

Anyone else getting a real nervous feeling lately like in March? There's such an impending feeling of uncertainty that's upsetting my tummy, not for getting sick or dying but just what life will be like in another 6 months, christmas etc. It's just impossible to have even the slightest clue what the world will be like by the end of this mad year

The main reason I would be nervous at the moment, is that with numbers like that appearing in NI, there can be a rare condition that runs side by side with covid19 that affects children. We saw it happening in England last June, and also New York and Montreal.

My Dad is in his 80’s and just out of hospital to get a non covid related issue dealt with, a minor enough procedure but something that couldn’t wait any further it was felt, all went well, he feels great happy days.

A charitable organization that he’s been involved with for 15 years or so that has a big event on over Christmas which involves helping hundreds of disadvantaged people through the efforts in person on the day and for months of planning of volunteers like himself, up to one hundred and fifty people, from the organization, , public services, caterers volunteer doctors, Gardai etc help on the day.

Usually he’s invited and involved in the meetings in advance planning but all has been quiet till this morning when a letter arrived showing the day going ahead, showing that he’s been delegated jobs in person on the day etc... never a phone call to ask, if he could go, about his health, his hospital stay, about how his families feels.

He’d be in a situation where he’d be surrounded by hundreds of people, for about 3-4 hours at least. Many of whom will have addiction and psychological issues.

The fûcking thing should NOT be going ahead. What is as bad is trying to bully and emotionally blackmail people whom for years have gone over and above EVERY year, giving of themselves in terms of time, effort, finances.. despite him being in his ‘80’s they are trying to put this on him, his family.

Utter cûnts.... no outline at all as to what safeguards will be in place, nothing.

He’s upset now because he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. I spoke to him and it’s “ yeah I suppose I should give it a miss, but they’ll be, hmmm yes “...

Head says no, heart say hmmmm maybe...

I just wish we could fûcking erase the Catholic Church right out of the history, present, future of this country.... toxic as fûck... I’m starting to see the event as more of a PR day for them...

If he does end up going, ended up ill or worse and brought that back to his family too... let me just say... the law would hold no deterrent for me....

Yes, I feel worse than March as it was a new experience, but now we know how bad a lockdown can be I think it's worse.
Also there is also the hope that you or your family pick it up.

Yes, we had cases of that paediatric inflammatory syndrome here too. Has there been any update on that since?

Not that Ive heard, but when numbers start going like NI, you would think that there would be a lockdown, schools closing etc. in an effort to prevent paediatric inflammatory condition happening again
