Flu season has barely started - go away with your conspiracy BS

It's amazing that when you have a question or a difference in opinion, no matter what question that seems outside your thinking, it is called a conspiracy.

I don't accosicate myself with conspiracies.

Individual people have different thoughts and understanding in regard to others opinions, but the problem is this... there are some people out there that will do everything in their power to cut you off when they do not like your opinion even when it is truth.

From Week 35, 24th - 30th August to Week 39 21st– 27th September the HPSC received no notifications for confirmed influenza cases.

The first report of the season will be published on Thursday 10th October 2019. Probably be the same for this year as well

How many Irish citizens died of the influenza flu in the last 2 months also not specified. Has any-one here have statistics by day/date of deaths from Influenza virus for the last 2 months?]
    Week 39: 0 deaths
    Week 38: 0 deaths
    Week 37: 0 deaths
    Week 36: 0 deaths
    Week 35: 0 deaths
    Week 34: 0 deaths
    Week 33: 0 deaths
    Week 32: 0 deaths
    Week 31: 0 deaths
    Week 30: 0 deaths
    Week 29: 0 deaths

Not as exciting as you might have been hoping for, but it is outside flu season so not very surprising.

I suspect there is 1 death missing, as the total deaths for the 2019/2020 flu season increases from 109 to 110 between weeks 35 and 36.

But to compare flu deaths from the previous years:
    2019/2020: 110

    2018/2019: 97

    2017/2018: 261
    2016/2017: 94

    2015/2016: 86

    2014/2015: 66

    Hope that helps.

Big questions over the plan now, level two clearly doesn't work so does that mean we'll be stuck in level 3 to 4 until a vaccine comes out. I think the government need to revise their 3 week old framework already.

I feel the Gardai checkpoints will slow the rate of growth somewhat but how long can they man those checkpoints we're throwing money and gardai overtime at a problem just to face it later down the road, not a good use of resources, and when they end it will be a free for all again.

Covid is mostly spreading in homes, in workplaces and schools and having a checkpoint won't really stop the spread there.

The nationwide level 3 will also slow the rate and even reduce the rate in some counties but with schools and work places still opened it won't have an effect on the major condenses cities especially if we're not dealing with the source of the spread.

It looks like we need a border patrol of some sort, not easy to implement but we won't reduce numbers in the border counties without it.

We'll probably see rises now for a week or 2 the after that it depends on how the restrictions are working and how many people are abiding by them. I think that level 5 scare has shocked a lot of people but how long will they be able to follow all the rules before getting fatigued.

Spoke to people living in New South Wales, Australia. They got to zero Covid - reopened and guess what, cases today. I agree the Level 5 leak has shocked a lot of people, but most people I see follow the restrictions when required.
Lockdowns are not a viable strategy and will have severe consequences on the population in my opinion.

I think there will be close to 300 in hospital by the time the effects of the new restrictions are noticed and unless we get R number significantly below 1 that number will continue to climb. I hope level 3 works but I think we are likely to have level 5 at some stage before Christmas. Better sooner than later imo.

Listening to the news this morning, professional/elite sports is an issue and the decision to allow it continue needs to be reviewed.

Its no longer acceptable that a rugby match with 30 players on a pitch for 80 minutes, people lying in top of each other can take place but a cafe can't serve breakfast to 20 people in a clean and safe environment.

Not saying your wrong but do you know anyone that has gotten a flu test?

Its a rare test, hospital only stuff I'd imagine

I would put any money that we test very few for flu and miss thousands and thousands of flu cases so those flu numbers are absolute bull**** as most medical figures are

    I had to laugh yesterday

We got a mail from our HR department that we would not be getting the flu vaccine this year

They couldnt secure supply, a large multi national.

Sums up this country and world, cant even secure flu jabs and people think we will covid vaccines for everyone soon ;-)

Disagree totally. Watching elite sport is a great outlet for people in these trying times.

I'm finished work today and going to enjoy the football tonight with a few beers. Similarly looking forward to the rugby games coming up.

Don't propose to take all the joy out of life please.

The risk seems to be pretty well managed in any case.

You're 20 times more likely to catch covid indoors. The cdc have now recognized the virus as an airbourne pathogen. Unless that breakfast cafe is outside it is a high risk environment.

If there is any influenza about it will be captured within the statistics of confirmed cases. Most diagnoses of it are clinical as the course tends to have a characteristically abrupt onset with a pretty severely (not usually severe in terms of needing hospital) symptomatic course, and GPs report what they think are probable cases. These times symptomatic people get tested for Covid to help eliminate that, although the way Influenza incapacitates from the outset I can't see how people can get themselves to a test centre if they live alone or are stricken down together in a household. There will be more requirement for testing to come to households.

As regards the supply the manufacturers didn't ramp it up this year, either because of inability to do so or lack of foresight. Regarding the latter my own pharmacist yesterday strangely said to me that "the demand couldn't have been anticipated, would could have known so many would want it". That's the sort of thinking I suspect to stretch way up into administrations.

    That’s not strictly true

NSW reopened at start of June, everything inc pubs have been open since start of July. Very low cases mostly in Quarantine and although community cases have been very low last few weeks today’s cases are linked to a known cluster in Liverpool hospital.

So what are we going to do about that? Not eat out, travel, play/watch sport, go to concerts, cinema, theatre, go shopping, have house parties, have friends/relatives from more than 2 different households over, travel abroad, go on holiday locally etc, etc etc until there is a vaccine? Even if a vaccine takes several years? Even if there is no vaccine at all? What is going to happen to all the people who work and own businesses in the above sectors? What is going to happen without the revenue collected from those businesses and people? What is going to happen to our lives, relationships and mental health? People need to wake up very, very quickly and stop giving the government the message that this is what we want with this ridiculous outrage about house parties, sports team celebrating etc.

Think everyone needs to chill out. It’s analogous to being on a boat when a wave is coming.

You steer into it and get over it.

If you believe that there is no wave and carry on in the direction you want the sea will flip you on your arse.

That’s my thought for the day. Stay safe.

    Better sooner than later why?

So we open back up quicker then close again??

What's the benefit of opening and closing quicker.

Surely it's all the same in the long run.

Problem is that there are people on the boat who are all paddling in the opposite direction (not wearing masks etc.) and even a small wave will cause the boat to capsize.
