Looks like Tony diffused it.. I never doubted him :)

He agrees leak on Sunday not the way to do things. As I'm sure we all do.

(although presser not over yet, so hold onto your popcorn!)

I’m not really liking how they’re trying to do a convincing job now. NPHET said we didn’t need to level 3 last week. They didn’t move Cork or any other counties to level 3 the week before.
How did they not see this coming?

Puts big question marks over NPHET. I believe they were getting to cushty with the government, Tony came back and put a stop to that but Tony himself has many questions marks over his head too.

    Not trying to be funny.

Genuine questions that makes a huge difference.

I should imagine that such deaths reported were at the very least greatly hastened by Covid.

It seems to be like Tony thought Glynn was being too subtle and pressed the big red button tbh

He was, said it a few times - far too polite and restrained in his language. Some people - plenty on this thread, need to be beaten about the head to pay attention.

No matter what anyone says I feel schools are central to keeping the case numbers high. They just add so many more areas for the virus to transfer.

Do I want schools to close. I haven't a clue. Could be really detrimental to society. Cure worse than cause.

Looks like Dublin has turned a corner.

It’s not dropping anywhere near enough to say that.

If the rest of the country rises continue we will see that occur again in Dublin in the short term

NPHET recommended level 4 nationwide under Glynn but the government rejected it.

Jesus we all know the numbers as do the government.

Locking down the whole country isn't the solution.

Nphet doing a great job here of explaining what changed between Thursday and Sunday.

Wish the government would come along and clearly explain why nphet were ignored

    For today.

There will be no impact until schools are closed.

It is very bad in Castlewellan and Newcastle in Co Down. Case Numbers in Newry and Mourne will probably rise a lot in the coming days. Life goes on as normal though as there are no restrictions.

Dublin has had 3 successive days of incidence decline in COVID-19.

Donegal is in trouble with Derry on the border. Possible bigger decision needed here with the border there?

Movement back and forth across the border is clearly a problem but treating the border like a sacred cow is only adding to the problem. I doubt the move up to level 3 will make much of a difference along the border counties.

That was my personal impression all along. Seems fairly significant he would strongly suggest that. Dead right too imo.

I read it the other way. Someone doesn't agree with the strategy suggests someone on NPHET.

You seem very well informed. I'm in no way advocating level 5 but what is your solution?

    Leo talked waffle.

he pretty clearly said it was because half a million people would immediately lose their jobs.

That Leo interview on Claire Bryne is going to age well.

To be fair, the points Leo was making regarding the overall economic impact, ability for Ireland to borrow from European capital markets and the effects on other aspects of peoples lives of moving to Level 5 on Monday still remain, irrespective of the content of the NPHET presentation this evening.

Of course, we may still need to move to Level 4 in 3 weeks time but the government need the time to put into place the necessary economic supports to facilitate this move.

I've a feeling Dr Tony felt compelled to return to work under circumstances he perceived to be happening.

Level 3 having a clear impact on Dublin it seems

It's stabilised. But that number may still be too high for hospital and ICU pressure.

    Far too early to tell.

    Dublin R number at 1.

    Decreased.

    Good to see.

I think he is referring to the case reported in the UK where a person supposedly died in a car crash and because they had covid it was marked as a covid death.

No. It's the same every time deaths are announced. It's a worn out comment and crass in the extreme.
