Legally there's no difference of course so we are relying on FLS to have some awareness regarding self preservation and the collective good.

No one is going to be "expected" to take - that's the scary thing in a way. You'd hope that the efficacy of the vaccine/s will be proven and that there will be no refusal and yet only an idiot would predict a 100% take up among the vulnerable as that cohort contains "nuts" just like those who are as fit as the proverbial flea. As for health care workers and indeed the broad population, one might predict herd immunity through vaccination at about 70% would be enough but we just don't know in practice if that's about right, too much or too little.

Thanks for the answer, about 70% uptake, at a guess obviously. It doesnt require 100% to be effective.

I was fascinated that HCWs have only a 50% participation rate in the flu vaccine given the proximity to vulnerable people.

Almost a disguised bunch of anti vaccers.

As far as I am concerned, at least Leo called out NPHET’s behaviour on Sunday as being unacceptable. To me, it’s bordering on impossible that the country could go from Level 2, or even Level 3, to Level 5 in 3 days, especially given their pronouncement was “no need to change”.

Leo’s getting a lot of criticism for it, but faced with the complete breakdown of orderly communications and a coach and horses being driven through protocols, I think Leo was right to say what actually happened.

The one thing I couldn’t understand about that is why can’t you just install some kind of “fume hood” over the high risk area - the patient’s head and just extract the air much like you would over any other similar industrial situation or even a kitchen! It can’t be that complex, cumbersome or even unpleasant and it just needs to suck the air out and pass it through some kind of HEPA filters or just exhaust it safely outside.

Like for welding and spray booths?

They do seem to think talking nicely to people is more effective. Just need to make sure that "most people" is a big enough number to counter it.

    Exactly

    Most people are decent humans

The only people that put themselves in that position are NPHET, between their constant leaks to press before even informing Government of their decisions, to the stunt pulled on Sunday evening. That was an outrageous thing to do, and it is they whose ego's need to be put firmly back in their boxes, particularly Tony. He couldn't give a toss about the implications of what he was suggesting.

I've seen no one definitively take responsibility for the leak.

Why wouldn't any normal person with a brain take a vaccine? Surely it's just those braindead anti mask protestors who wouldn't take it? That's fine by me. They can kill each other by infecting each otherfor all anyone cares.

No I’m not an anti mask protestor and happily wear my mask everywhere and sanitize constantly when going out but I won’t be taking the vaccine until there is 10000s who have gotten it before me and have developed no terrible side effects.

Maybe u should use your brain, not everyone is anti mask protestor who disagrees with taking a vaccine.

150 in hospital for second day running and 24 in ICU, an increase of one.

Be interesting to see will those numbers increase or decrease by 8pm tonight in the HSE update.

    Sunday 8pm

141 in hospital and 21 in ICU

    Last night at 8pm

147 in hospital and 23 in ICU.

Like used in labs and all sorts of situations. I’m sure with a bit of design it could be done so it’s neither particular unobtrusive or unpleasant for anyone involved.

All it needs to do is create sufficient air curtain to keep any aerosols out of the general atmosphere.

Such systems exist in plenty of contexts beyond healthcare.

There’s an example of one. It seems it’s called spot extraction:

    https://youtu.be/W_lYIBx8Acc

It would seem they’re pretty commonly used in various industries where you have to extract fumes, gases, dust or other toxic particles.

A bit of ducting and roof mounted systems and you’d have much safer facilities.

I got the impression from Leo interview last night that he didn't even know about it before the media, surely that would be easily checked, I don't remember the exact words so he may not have said that.

I guess so it did seem to have come as a shock to most people.

Also it could possibly just have been leaked unbeknownst to either side, just like the beers we used to get here, it could have just gotten out

There were anti-mask protests before the BLM protest in Ireland and other countries.......

Also, the BLM protesters wore masks and attempted social distancing.

    No they didn't.

No protest during this pandemic is justifiable wether it's anti mask or BLM.

Protestors shouting "fake news" over Richard Chambers on VM news. Can that lot be round up and shipped off to an island somewhere? What a bunch of knuckle draggers

Well, for a start, those whose brain keeps falling asleep since they got the swine flu vaccine might. And those who prefer to wait a while for a rushed vaccine to prove its safety in the population might also. And I'm as pro-vaccine as they come.

Ah you must mean the 0.000036% of people that took the vaccine and also developed narcolepsy? No evidence mind you that the vaccine caused it and not exactly statistically significant. You also forgot to mention the study that suggests narcolepsy can be triggered by upper respiratory infections in certain people and that this could just as likely be the reason.

But anyway, yeah those 0.000036% certainly may have dodged a bullit.

Is that what they were shouting? Why didn't they turn the cameras on them - the level of news coverage on that station is very low they missed an opportunity there.

The whole "stepping up enforcement" thing from the government is PR guff. Scumbags will continue to do as they please combined with schools staying open means level 5 is inevitable in a few weeks.

Tell us how level 5 will make any difference to the scumbags.

They're not news, why would you even give them screen time? People don't need to lose the brain cells listening to that lot.

The usual attack that happens when vaccines are mentioned:rolleyes: The discussion wasn't will you take the vaccine or even should people take the vaccine. It was about why people might not. You also failed to notice the bit where I said that I am personally very pro-vaccine.

I think we’ll hover at about 150-250 in hospital and 25/40 in icu with COVID for the winter. Flu inevitably will be involved too but hopefully not as widespread especially with hand hygiene, cough etiquette, masks, social distance etc..

They certainly are news and I want to know what the c*nts look like - it's the usual weak coverage on a station that seems takes the lazy route. I think most in this country would like to know who these gob****es are.

What about the multiple other leaks from them too? Or the tweets from their own personal accounts following meetings before cabinet sub committee even met, leading up to Dublin going to level 3? Not from them either no?

From RTE Feed - HSE study to look at rates of previous COVID infection.
The HSE is to conduct a study among healthcare workers in two major acute hospitals to examine rates of previous Covid-19 infection.

The 'Precise' study will involve staff at St James's Hospital, Dublin and University Hospital Galway.

Over the next two weeks, healthcare workers will be invited to have a blood test to determine the presence of Covid-19 antibodies.

Those tests will be repeated in six months' time.

Lockdowns have all but eliminated flu season in the southern hemisphere. Hopefully it will be the same here.

    Why is that strange?
He’s a major political journalist and a TD is answering a question
This happens up and down the country

Anyone blowing this up to be anymore than a simple text of what we heard him say last night and answering a question is deluded
