This intro to the Rte covid programme is awful hype.

'It ripped through the limbs of each family'. Now it did to many but this statement is hyperbole.

Only 34% of farmers agree with you

Turned off at that point. What a pile of crap. You would think we have smallpox running rife.

From what I've heard about a school in Cork that closed. About a dozen cases so far. It spread from a child getting a bus/escort to school, who then passed it on to an SNA and from there it was spread to the rest. No details about the rest of spread.

SNAs are extremely vunerable because theres virtually zero social distancing when dealing with special needs pupils.

Thats not true. My son is special needs and an assistant in school tested positive.
They wear a mask and social distance and HSE said no need to test. Obvs i was not so impressed and got us tested anyway, negative thankfully

But because of masks and distancing, reduced risk.
What school closed? Im surprised, as all escorts, snas and teachers have to wear a mask.
    Masks cut transmission by 85%.

So, Im now wondering if our story has grown arms and legs.. :).

    Do they have a case?

Yes, and like Ryanair I hope more companies and organisations stand up to the NHPET-FFFG Government...

Lawyers for Press Up group, which employs 1,800 people across five hotels, 12 bars, 27 restaurants and two cinemas, have written to Government, saying Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has published “no empirical, objective and verifiable evidence” to support the closures.

The group also claims Mr Donnelly has “unlawfully delegated or otherwise abdicated responsibility to third parties in particular members of the National Public Health Emergency Team”.

The group’s solicitors state that it has not been notified by the HSE of any outbreak of the virus at any of its premises and has called on Mr Donnelly to publish evidence to justify the restrictions.

There was a post in these threads the other day of the government's covid fund and advertising spend on the radio. It was quite hefty but I suppose the narrative is more important than the data.

Does anybody have any idea when we are expected to hit the peak of the 2nd wave?

How come other sections of society get to socialise but you think teachers should see their class only? What about their families who may have school elsewhere? I love how you're so enthusiastic to take away the personal freedoms of teachers. Do you think doctors should also isolate themselves from everyone except patients?

They're not being asked to socialise any less than everybody else is being asked to limit contacts and take precautions.

I hope there is more of this.

Yeah, sue the taxpayers. Great idea.

Is there a constitutional argument to make?

Should get Gemma, John w and Jim Corr on the case. They are constitutional law experts or at least they talk about it a lot. Nearly as much as 5G.

October 30th for this wave if I had to stick money on it, this will be the Friday of the week schools are off with a bank holiday the Monday before it, perfect conditions for people to let the guard down :D

They've staggered restrictions around Bank Holidays all year so expect this one to be no different

My OH is an SNA, she wears a mask, changes it at least 3 times during the day, she wears her own masks as some of the ones provided didnt fit appropiately. The risk is reduced but theres still a risk. They try to social distance as much as possible but theres still times where they have to sit with the child to help them. Shes works in a different school to the one I mentioned.

I cant comment on the social distancing or mask wearing of the closed school. You did the right thing about getting tested because I would be surprised if the HSE were treating mainstream classes with special needs kids integrating the same as a mainstream with no SN kids.

Do I remember correctly that Pat Kenny referred to joggers and cyclist's exhausting plumes of Covid?

    Live on air
I think the point is (ands I speak as a very active cyclist) people undertaking physical exercise breath more heavily, but also when they are moving quickly they naturally spread their exhalations over a much larger area. A cyclist travelling at 40km/h will move probably in excess of 20 metres between very deep breaths with a wake that encompasses a large "catchment area"

I know one of the physicians advising British Cycling highlighted the increased risks of spread by an active cyclist with the virus

I am an sna in a post primary school without any severe needs. We cannot social distance in the slightest bit, and in order to do our job within a classroom (which we move between every hour) we need to be inches away from students. There's only so much a mask helps.

    Self entitled twats.

Why are they self entitled twats?

For sure they are looking at their bottom line like every other business but surely there is always room for debate and discussion?

NPHET and the government could very well be able to answer the hard questions but many would suggest that they are not being asked at the moment

    Self entitled twats.
What part of trying to save your business makes you a 'self entitled twat'?

    Also the cervical check scandal.

And we have another screening crisis around the corner but nobody seems to think that's a big deal. He was in charge when it was all stopped.
Was not forgetting that at all or the way he treated on of the women who is now dying.

Because saving lives and keeping people healthy is the priority.

If they were successful in overturning this in court... it will lead to more deaths.

They KNOW this but value making money ahead of saving lives.

Don't you understand? The 1800 employees don't matter either - only the sick matter

How many cases have been linked to restaurants?

I think trying to ensure that they and their employee's have enough money to survive is pretty caring
