Last 7 days compared to last week if my calculations are right had 1,928 extra tests and found 102 more cases.

If there's a ~250 ish today then you can assume the backlog is simply not a backlog and just re-tests

I told here the other day of a close contact I know who was tested Friday, and were told their test would take longer to return a result as they were a contact and the result would need to be confirmed. They got their positive result this morning, while negative result were received by other contacts of the same case on Saturday. Possible they are re-running positives associated with close contacts due to specificity concerns?

May explain the retests/difference in positives vs announced cases.

Can someone provide spark notes on the German schools thing? Why are we discussing it?

Friend of mine notified today that they are a close contact of a confirmed case. Informed that their test will not be until Friday at the earliest. Thought it seemed like a long wait. Confirmed case is from Tuesday 22nd.

They'll have to isolate for 14 days from the 22nd, even if the test is negative.
Both my kids had to do this, both negative, thankfully.
Their friend who was positive was totally asymptomatic. He was tested because a family member had it.
We had results in about 30 hours.

I thought isolation was reduced to ten days now, no.

RTE again. I mean why bother getting people to talk about their experience "living with the virus".

The M.E/Chronic Fatigue associations have been aware since covid--19 arrived of the reality that as with many viruses there would be an increasing number of people who would go on to develop these disabling ,incurable and untreatable illnesses. They can cripple for many years as I know from my own life after a flu infection way back.

10 days if he is positive, 14 days if he is not, just in case!!!

It is 10 days in counties Leitrim, Roscommon and Westmeath, although it is not clear what is the position in the urban areas of these counties.

Obviously sarcastic in respect to the missed messaging.

Does anyone know how they contact trace when someone asymptomatic tests positive? For symptomatic people it's go back 2 days from when symptoms appeared but how do you do this for asymptomatic people?

What to do if you are a close contact
If you are a close contact you need to:

    get tested for COVID-19
restrict your movements for 14 days - even if your test comes back negative
You can become a close contact on more than one occasion. You will need to restrict your movements each time.

Is this normal? Should the briefing not be about facts and public health messages, rather than bringing in someone who had Covid and some from the students union?

It's not unusual to have people like that there to reinforce message

Friend of mine notified today that they are a close contact of a confirmed case. Informed that their test will not be until Friday at the earliest. Thought it seemed like a long wait. Confirmed case is from Tuesday 22nd.

Is it possibly down to the below guidance - all contacts to be tested on the same day
    https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/guidance/contacttracingguidance/National%20Interim%20Guidance%20for%20contact%20tracing.pdf
    When a case is confirmed:
    • Their contacts must be identified and tested on the same day = Day 0 test
    • At the time of first discussion with the contact, details must be confirmed of the date of
their last contact with the case. The Day 7 test is to be performed on 7 days after that last
    contact.
    • If the Day 0 and 7 tests are too close together (within 24 hours), only 1 test is necessary.
    • If the Day 0 test is positive, there is no further test required – the contact becomes a case.
    • Irrespective of the outcome of Day 0 and Day 7 test, all contacts must restrict movement for
the full 14 days. (If the contact becomes a case, they must self-isolate).
    • All results for the first case and contacts must be have full data provided and be linked in
    the data systems.

I have wondered this myself. All the sacrifices we have made over the last 6 months to flatten the curve and allow the Health authorities to get ready for the winter have been completely squandered by them. It is an absolute scandal.

There has only ever been one plan: Do everything possible to suppress the virus and pray for a vaccine.

why did they stop giving the profile of the deaths as soon as Tony H walked?

if they say 5 Died but don't give the age, setting and underlying conditions, they want the viewer to assume, WOW that could be me tomorrow or anyone close to me...that's omitting details to generate and control people with fear. How is this not being disclosed anymore? people have a right to know what the death profile is as was the case in the early days.

That's the plan - everyone cross their fingers! To be fair to our government, this would appear to be the plan in most European countries plus the US and UK.

Seem not, didnt even bother to the infrastructure to have efficient testing and tracing. Sending tests to Germany again , seems like we learned nothing back in March.

Lots of the tracing centres were never made operational, people who had signed up were never called.

That's the plan - everyone cross their fingers! To be fair to our government, this would appear to be the plan in most European countries plus the US and UK.

To be fair, there are no good answers here without a vaccine. It’s just a **** choice and a more **** choice.

Personally, I think we’re going down the more **** road by locking down like we are but I understand the logic. I just don’t see what the end game is if there is no vaccine. We’ll never get to zero Covid and even if we do, as long as other countries don’t, we’re at risk.

I had a pain in my hoop listening to how great Jacinda Ardern was for ridding NZ of Covid. Guess what? It came back and they had to lock down Auckland again.

Lockdowns are only a short term measure in my view because we aren’t built to abide by them as a species, they are economically ruinous and we can’t keep running up a bill that will have to be repaid eventually. The alternative is crap too, where we accept that some people will die, but I think we’re nearing the end of our tolerance for lockdowns.

They are on call, or limbo. Heard a nurse the other day came from Oz and had to get agency work.
