There’ll be no link to the stats. How can there be a link to made up stats?

No. Surprisingly I’ve been told I must isolate even if it’s negative.

Like Phil hogan, I assumed if I got a negative I was free to go.

Do you mean actual cases in the schools since they opened.

If it is negative you isolate for 48hrs after you are symptom free. We don't want you getting the same time off as teachers.

Not according to the test pack I was provided with. 14 days.

My daughter was tested in uk today. 8 days.

All depends whether they were tested due to symptoms or due to being a close contact.

Our resident Veteran educator tells us it’s 200. Or 201 - take your pick.

As the whether these are cases or schools, well, it can be whatever you like. Take your pick.

In the interests of all of us that frequent this thread would you just let it go.

Seriously annoying and petty at this stage.

How can it be in the interests of anyone to accept made up figures presented as authorative in a debate about what should happen our kids education.

You seem to be suggesting that anyone expressing a view not in Accordance with yours should not be allowed express it.

This is not an asti staff room.

So a petition to close the schools is it?

The poster clearly said BLENDED LEARNING.

Who said they they are made up? You.

    Who make you the authority?

There are approximately 200 cases in schools. Last time the NPHET briefing gave an update they said there were 13 clusters and 131 cases associated with schools. If I remember right that was last Wednesday/Thursday week.

The 4 or 5 teachers here including an ex teacher which were supposed to believe are hell bent on belittling anyone who disagrees with their narrative.

The certain ex teacher has told me

    -know my level

-go home because the experts are talking.

-my level of intelligence and debate doesn't belong around here.

    All from an ex teacher.

    Pure arrogance and importance.

Glad my kids never had this ex teacher as a mentor.

200 cases out of 1 million kids.

Not bad going and certainly no more dangerous to a teacher than most people working in factories and warehouses or hospitals or shopping centres at the moment and all during the pandemic.

Either NPHET (one set of figures) or you can join the FB page "Alerting parents of outbreaks in schools." It has 68k members currently in just a few weeks. Its run by ordinary (non govt) parents who were frustrated by the lack of info. In order to count a case per their rules they must be able to independently verify in some way usually starting with a letter from the school or HSE. They publish the letter and usually you can see parents underneath commenting about how their child is in that school or class. I think it's reliable.

Thank you. If you are correct then it’s 200 cases in schools. I don’t understand though how 131 cases/13 clusters translates into 200 odd cases. Are there other NPHET figures which reconcile the two positions?

And just by the way I’m glad we are agreed that the assertion made by our resident Veteran Educator that there were 200 schools involved is a load of garbage. At least we have established that much. It’s much preferable to have a discussion based on the facts - which in fairness you have tried to do - as opposed to prejudices presented as facts.

As a regular poster to this thread and a teacher I'm actually annoyed at that.

Don't think it is fair to denigrate posters like that.

In fairness there are some teachers on here intent on patronising and belittling anyone who disagrees with them. If your being honest wirelessdude you’ll have to admit it is happening and coming from one teacher in particular.

It's not a load of garbage that there are more than 200 cases in schools, actually. Hopefully a mod will pull you up on your aggressive posting soon.

Not bad going and certainly no more dangerous to a teacher than most people working in factories and warehouses or hospitals or shopping centres at the moment and all during the pandemic.

Since sept 1st there have been approx 5200 cases in total.

200 in schools is less than 4% of all cases.

This is a remarkably low number, and indeed a credit to those who run the schools.

I am presuming you mean the school staff, teachers, caretakers, snas etc as they carry out the day to day implentation of the covid protocols

Not answering for the poster but I don't believe they ever said that but you like to muddy the water.

As regards how 131 cases turns into 200. The 131 was reported by NPHET on the 16th or 17th of September. Extrapolate it out and 200 is the approximate number now. I believe it to be higher based on what I know local to my area. I personally know of 6 schools with 2 or more confirmed cases.

Selective interpretation of close contacts in the last 10 days has become apparent within classes with a confirmed case. The question has to be asked why this tightening of the criteria started? Have they been quietly told to reduce the pressure on the testing system? The overloading of the testing system was acknowleded today. A byproduct of this reduction would also mean easing of pressure on the track and trace system which was highlighted as creaking by Primetime during the week.

I never said 200 cases in schools is a load of garbage, and I would appreciate you withdrawing that false statement.

What I did say was that the statements that the 200 referred to schools and The 200 referred to cases cannot both be true (save the highly unlikely event that there was exactly one case per school).

So when a statement is made asserting two conflicting things, one of them, by definition has to be untrue. And imho therefore garbage.

But I don’t really see why you and I should be arguing over materially false statements made by someone else.
