Student Dorm quarantined following detection of Covid in there wastewater -https://www.nj.com/education/2020/09/nj-college-dorm-under-quarantine-after-covid-19-found-in-sewage.html

Does anyone know how analysis of raw sewage to detect prevalence of virus in communities is doing here?

Haven't really heard anything on that front since summer.

I'm not sure how effective it would be here, except for a national stat aspect. Our sewage system is too inadequate, too many areas pumped into too few treatment plants, so there would be very little area breakdown details that could be done. The large town of Arklow has no treatment plant at all, and it's not the only place in the country with a straight untreated discharge to the sea or a river.

There was a lot of backslapping going on in the thread over the last few days over a few days of relative stabilisation in cases. Felt premature, to say the least.

Today the figure is quite high, but, equally, we can't lose the plot about this either. This has been flagged and predicted now for a while.

This is going to get worse before it gets better - and as much as the denialists on this thread have been irritating to read through - we have to try to keep our heads too.

Why the f*** aren't the Gardai doing anything about these people partying in the streets? What the hell will it take for them to break these things up. The government announce restrictions but do f all about enforcing them. I'm absolutely sick of the constant anxiety and no sign of any progress being made. My family and friends have all done our bit. I haven't seen friends in months. I had my first ever panic attack three weeks ago and now this. I'm sick of it.

Not a Monday night drinker but may cross the threshold of an establishment tomorrow.

I live in Dublin North West where the highest incidence of covid in the country is.Went for a drive this weekend around the area and given the recommendations didnt expect to see what I did. Part of pheonix park inaccesible where people could have parked and walked safely and with social distance.Instead the playground and the visitor centre was packed like sardines with people.dont remember seeing it busier or even as busy in twenty years.Blanchardstown sc is as busy as any other weekend despite the recommendations.Dublin is in for a rough ride.

I'd say those outside Dublin should enjoy their pints next week as all of the country will be at level 3 come next Friday.

Hopefully they can move things around a bit to be more realistic about outside dining, and if we are stuck at level 3 long term into the winter to allow some form of very restricted indoor dining to be allowed otherwise this just isn't sustainable.

Is this what you mean by backslapping?

    Poster 1 : Only 100 cases today.
    Poster 2 : That's good.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. However, the way things are going you may have a limited window of opportunity.

I can see the opening being reversed again soon. What are the odds on another Taoiseach's address from the podium, next friday?

God, that's awful. I've kids myself and I can't imagine not seeing them regularly. I hope you get to see your daughter soon.

Yeah, why don’t you tell us all about that epic rave in a field in Kildare in 1995, because that’s all that matters here. You need to show those kids how it’s really done

It's been about 2 months and it's summertime. You'd imagine it takes time to get a project up and running and to gather data.

What will they do when they realise that the perceived problem of restaurants and cafes was not the problem at all? Shut down supermarkets?

There is no way shutting down indoor dining is going to have enough impact to cause numbers to get to an unknown satisfactory level to enable a reopening in 3 weeks.

It's gonna be a long long winter.

The weather is decent at the minute but once the long nights arrive this is going to get very very tedious without people being able to have some outlet to socialise.

And I'm doing all the 'wash my hands, wear a mask, limit contacts' things, just in case it helps a bit.

You wash your hands to protect yourself.

This is something people should have been doing pre-covid anyway.

They should have been constructive and realistic instead of just putting the hatchet down. They have obviously learned nothing in 6 months.

I haven't seen 1 sister since January and another sister (lives abroad) and her family since Summer 2019. I did get to see Mum and my 3rd sister over the Summer but as both have multiple health conditions between them, I don't know when we will see them again now that the schools are open.

We were all meant to be together in the same place at the same time for the first time in a long time for my Mum's Birthday this Summer but that didn't happen and who knows when we will all be together again.

Only a certain amount of alcohol allowed to be purchased at any one time? I would not be one bit surprised. Anything but stop the actual problem of parties and gatherings

I'd expect a lot of other people to be thinking the same way, rightly or wrongly. Don't forget the strong social aspects of pubs for some people. Judging by the totals in all other counties, another Martin speech is quite unlikely at present. Even if he did it would be some counties only.

Nah, I'll only derail the thread, those gob****es wouldn't know or have the resilience to organise a rave in a field or other secluded location. At least in 90s raves people wore masks ;)

Scum is gona scum. Especially when there are zero consequences. Water canon and letting the gardai let some of their frustration out on them would be no harm.

Long lasting dye in the water cannon an even better option. Dye on a person, they are banned from wherever seems appropriate, like off licences, supermarkets, maybe even work places, as they've demonstrated a lack of ability to make appropriate judgements about appropriate behaviour.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Doesn't bode well when people can't stay at home and have a bit of common sense to see if there are crowds at a location to not stay.
