Reading reports on social media about various parties around the country last night. Most outdoors but you do fear with the coming winter these clowns will move indoors resulting in carnage.

Didn't NPHET say pubs should only open if cases were stable for 2 weeks beforehand? Can't see how that's the case with current cases

I believe NPHET have said they don't agree with pubs opening but the government has gone against them. Could be wrong though.

Highest day since may I think they said?

The numbers in Dublin are shocking...scenes like those last night at the oliver bonds flats aren't going to help.

Bars and restaurants could be closed for longer than the 3 weeks in Dublin at this rate...

How is it good news..do you know That a lot of the people who get the virus.suffer all types of symptoms..lungs seem to be particularly affected with lot of breathing difficulties .plus no energy for months..and some have been getting relapses of said symptoms..and if those people have under lying conditions especially asthma or systicfibrosis. It can be worrying .so any one that gets it ..can only hope they are in the minority....once this virus in your system..its there to stay..

'Once this virus in your system..it's there to stay' well that's not true.

The pubs need to forget about this year tbh. Many will go to the wall but there are more important issues to think of now.

Dr petri....head of infectious diseases and epidemiology..in USA .he has stated that virus could live in parts of the human body where immunity is at a very low level and hibernate. Then to reestablish itself.

That's nothing noteworthy. Since the present rise, August on, every day with a higher figure has the be the highest since May. From 150 cases up.

Feels like the government was pretty slow with the level 3 restrictions in Dublin, if they were going to do it anyway, they should've done it a week earlier when NPHET sent the letter to Donnelly. Instead they waited a few days to put in the clearly communicated response plan and then a few more with the level 2.5 rubbish.

Again, keep bearing in mind that we're detecting far more than we were in the early days when you had to present with far more symptoms to even get tested. Just to try and temper the worry a little.

As to the vids - I haven't watched any of them because I fear I'll probably end up bursting a blood vessel in frustration.

As the ESRI chap said, get yourself good winter coats and go outside! Winter - i.e. December will be 9-10 months on and patience is already wearing thin. If we can stay at Level 1 or 2 and the pubs can stay open it'll provide an outlet for a lot of that.

Can the partying covididiots be fined, huge high fines and stop their pup / dole payments if on

In terms of profit I agree. Opening? It will happen. There is a political desire to get them back functioning after a fashion.

Sam Bennett won the final stage in the Tour de France and the Green Jersey to boot.

Off topic I know but no harm bringing a bit of good news to the thread.

I didn’t hear newstalk, however the talk this week was the community was driving cases in schools and not the other way around. It is clear the behaviour of a portion of the population is driving this through their daily interactions. Raves, communions, golf trips, parties etc. The surge since the start of September has been driven by behaviour in the second half of August when many went on holidays within Ireland, mixing in the most uncontrolled fashion we have seen since this started, and then the older brigade heading on holidays etc post school return. There was also an increase in cases associated with travel in the second half of August. If large scale clusters associated with the school return had occurred we would have seen it in the testing data. But the age distribution of cases is unchanged and in the 2100 tests conducted as a result of 96 cases entering schools yielded on 35 positives.

Major school clusters will arise, but they are not the primary driver at the moment

    Its ridiculous at this stage

Nearly 12 months in and we have no idea who are the spreaders and how to test them, trillions thrown at it and no clue

15,000 yes and no pcr tests that tell us nothing about spreaders or viral load

100 kids might have Covid and spread it no one and 1 poor soul might spread it to 50 people on his own without knowing

Before we lockdown countries, create vaccines, kill economies, we need to understand this bloody virus

We are thick as **** and think we are geniuses

This virus has been most humbling thing to ever happen us as a species

Some people still believe we are building colonies on Mars soon, will have self driving cars collecting us at our door and we will concur AI lol

    Disgraceful.

He should've been at home living in a cave.

His sweat could've hit some granny sitting at home watching on tv and killed her instantly.

You can always rely on a video to cause outrage these days. I think you may be right on Dublin but the next 7-14 days will be critical! :D

Or something needs to be done with people having large gatherings and parties - that’s where the problem lies. Bring in fines and give the guards for powers.

The crowd having their raves are happy out - they’re probably not the type to be going to restaurants anyway, and sure what harm if the pubs stay closed - they’re having better craic having their parties, dancing to actual music (!), all on top of each other, saving a fortune getting their drink in the supermarket. The PUP is much better than the dole...

The lockdown is affecting the wrong people, and unless they target certain settings and cohorts of people, it’ll continue on for much longer

We’re all to put in the green jersey.

    And wash your hands.

I don't think there's any point in worrying what others are doing, since they're not going to change their behaviour, no matter what is posted here. I've stopped paying attention to the daily numbers, it's always "we've got this under control" or "this is now out of control". Instead I'm just trying to live my life without worrying about things that are beyond my control.

And I'm doing all the 'wash my hands, wear a mask, limit contacts' things, just in case it helps a bit.

Or we could embrace friluftsliv :)

I am used to nice quiet evenings in winter out walking the dog tbh.

Does anyone know how analysis of raw sewage to detect prevalence of virus in communities is doing here? Haven't really heard anything on that front since summer.

There isnt any chance they will open between Nov and April if the hospitals got blocked up.

As things stands hospital/ICU numbers have risen fairly slowly compared to the first wave. Encouragingly the likes of Holland opened up stuff before us,are already back to the sort of numbers from the first wave and haven't see death rises at all.

But as they say hope isn't a strategy.
