Pubs are open in level 3, they may just put Dublin in level 4 and let them work their way back down.

Pubs open for outside seating at level 4.

Level 3.25, you really couldn't make any of this up
    https://twitter.com/newschambers/status/1306534984505872384?s=19

Absolutely farcical. Have they not learned anything from the mess of putting Dublin in 2.5 just when they announced the new levels.

We may as well stick them in the bin as they will mean nothing if this is the case.

There's feck all people going to put heed in this plan seen as it's a shambles already.

At least that would make sense

I assume you mean back to phase 1 or 2 in Jan?

Yeah, obviously that would be preferable to messing around with ineffectual restrictions before eventually doing what's required from a much worse position.

I don't think there's any appetite for it though. Hopefully the same restrictions here will somehow have a bigger impact.

I think if you opened up at Christmas, there would be a spike of new cases in January plus you are in the epicentre of the flu / hosp trolley crisis.

The 3.25 thing for Dublin is coming from NPHET, not the government. It does feel that Tony Holohan has been a big loss to NPHET, they seem to be all at sea and lack the same clarity of thought as when Tony was the boss. The government is then being handed advice which hasn't been properly thought through by NPHET.

Glynn has an infinitely tougher job than Holohan. There was no real such thing as fatigue.

As Leo kept telling us, "shutting down was the easy part".

Also the governance listened to Holohan, NPHET now are competing with loons and lobbyists for the ear of the cabinet.

And now there has been an extra layer of civil service fat placed between them, that message will only get further diluted.

NPHET: "We don't recommend you open pubs"
    Government: "We're reopening the pubs!"
NPHET: "Cases are growing too fast"
Government: "Well what are you going to do about it?"

    No wonder they are harried.

I'll give you a hint, do you think those countries are detecting the same level virus now than they were in March, April and May?

If you are implying the true infection rate was much higher back then, then you are probably right but the only inference to be drawn is that the true mortality rate from this virus is actually much much lower then and now. We should however rely on the data from official sources and estimate in perceived flaws and gaps with caution, estimates aren't data.

If the infection rate was much higher back then, what is the true mortality rate based on an estimate of the higher infection rate? Any answer to that is based on a guess. The better numbers are the most recent ones and mortality from other seasonal diseases give us perspective too.

I see travel is classed as essential or appropriate

Is it appropriate to drive 10 minutes into Meath to your wedding only venue less that 24 after restriction , the same 25 people who where allowed at the ceremony

Firstly 90% of college is online and secondly wet pubs aren't even open in Dublin nor will they despite being in level 3 or whatever.

A pointless industry to even attempt to put restrictions on because their closed.

And now they have an extra layer of non experts to help them.

Michael Martin: I don't know lads, looks to me like case are exploding judging by the graph.

Layer of Fat: Well you see Taoiseach that entirely depends on how you look at it. I mean if you hold the graph upside down, cases plummeting.

    Michael Martin: Open the pubs.

I also think Holohan had a political mind, he knew the games involved.

Estimated IFR is ~0.5%. Five times lower than our CFR.

People need to forget about their usual Xmas this year. It's best they prepare for that reality now instead of being in some sort of denial and having their mental health suffer. Hopefully next year we get a vaccine and they can enjoy Xmas again.

Not sure why they’re even considering third level restrictions. I’m in for 2 hours... a week.

I'm not implying anything, Spanish public health are based on surveys they have conducted.

Also I think it's pretty obvious the stated death rate back then was not 10%.

If it were we would all still be in lockdown.

    Nah

I’ll be doing what I feel like doing at Xmas regardless of what level we are at on the “5” point plan.

Others can hide under the bed if they feel it’s appropriate.

Don't know about you but I'll be having my normal Christmas, always just us for a few days, won't be any different this year. Off licence the week before and relax with the family for the few days we're all off. Binge watch the usual Christmas TV and movies. Never bothered going to others houses on Christmas day so it'll be the same as usual.

Yeah nothing to do with that excuse of a government. They have been completely supportive of the advice given to them while simultaneously throwing NPHET under the bus and inserting layers of bureaucracy to distance themselves from any responsibility or anything the lobby groups won't like.

So we've saved around 4000 lives the past 3 months ?
Maybe we should do this forever.

I live in dublin in an apartment on my own.

I struggled during lockdown and the only thing that got me out of that funk was going to the gym. I really hope they dont close our gyms, exercise is critical for peoples wellbeing and mental health.

This is a very good point he knew how to handle all the bull **** and knew how to get his point across and cut though all the government spin.

You can do push-ups are home and jog on roads.

People seem to be pulling the mental health excuse more lately.

Because if they don't even consider them journalists will be going "well what about 3rd Level what happens there"

    Like we will be allowed.

Brown Thomas opened their Christmas Shop yesterday.

    Yeah, 16th of September.

I've never seen a politican to handle the media as well. I wonder what he makes of this clown show, he was on a completely different wavelength to Government, the minute he didn't follow the party line he was cancelled like everyone else.
We opened up foreign travel not long after him speaking out about it and subsequent leaving, we brought in masks as we thought it would even out the problem from travel.
Now we've next to no Travel related cases, seems odd Tony could have been so wrong.
