Agree 100% They are in my locality and everyone knows who did what. It's very sad.

Would a group of locals not make sure they’d be terrified to ever do it again?

I'm not one for believing things about vans going around but theft of dogs has clearly increased lately. Not sure why a minority are so above acknowledging it.

It's much the same reason why some people downplay the covid crisis or deny climate change. It gives them a feeling of superiority to be contrarian.

I think part of this is there are 3 camps

1 normal rational who acknowledge it's happening
2 people who disbelieve it completely
3 overzealous people who take joy in scare stories about every white van/UK reg being around trying to steal anything they can lay their hands on.

There’s definitely a type on here that will scan a thread for the most popular opinion and then set up their stance as the opposite, no matter what it is. It’s like a hobby.

Large Garda Operation has resulted in seizing 32 stolen dogs in Swords. Monetary value of dogs seized reported to be in excess of 120k. Time for CAB to get involved in what is clearly organised crime.

A quick scan on Google Maps of the approximate area mentioned in The Journals story tells me there will be zero mention of the actual address they were seized from by mainstream media :pac:

It was a report by a local that got the raid to happen. You'd be hard pressed to terrify these people with violence, its what they do from a young age.

Just heard a small white van 152D reg in Bray area acting suspicious ....not sure if its to do with dogs but couple of people have said it has slowed down or stopped if it sees dogs.......might be nothing but sure be better safe than sorry

The actual address is a bungalow in a small cul de sac of 9 bungalows.

I wonder if Martin Collins would like to comment on yet another incident regarding our cultured friends.

The sooner travellers are treated as a criminal group as the evidence clearly shows, the better. Enda Kenny made a grave error in extending further rights this this shower of effers.

maybe, but a couple of likely lads pulled up at my gate last week to "take a call" - our dog was inside at the time so they didn't see him. They were there for about 5 mins, until i took out my camera and went to the front door. never seen fellas jump so quickly into a van and they tore off down the road.

Only difference being one is hysteria, the other appears to be happening going by the increase in dog theft.

Maybe in some areas. Where I am it's the opposite problem - people dumping their dogs (and cats).

We should hook the 2 groups up. Lessen the dumping and the thefts in one move. Both are total scumbags so it could be a match made in scummy heaven.

Dogs are being stolen but some owners are making it easy for them. One of my friend's neighbors had a husky they let in the front garden while they were away. And came back with him gone.

Indeed. I've lost count of how many pets I've taken in, rehabilitated and rehomed to others (try to avoid shelters where possible). Some people seem to think it's ok to stray their pets in the mountains - oh sure he will be frolicking with the rabbits etc. Morons. We even took in a pet rabbit a few years ago. Teeth were so long he was half starved. Who just dumps a f*cking pet rabbit?
Another thing that's an issue on done deal and the likes is people selling or rehoming kittens. It's known these are used for baiting.

I look after a gorgeous silver blue coloured whippet and was getting out of the car at a layby in the road between Lisdoonvarna and Fanore I bring him fishing sometimes as he loves lying there watching me casting out from the limestone flat rock's. He sniff's around and loves jumping from rocks the rock.. and gets excited when I catch a fish.
One evening an English couple stopped chatting with me, and admired the dog and started asking for directions, then the conversation progressed to where I lived and worked etc.
I told them Im up from Kerry and camping, I could smell a rat...

    Tell them nothing

House break in last night in Tipperary to take a dog. Owner seriously assaulted trying to stop them.

Another dog stolen in the same area.

    Tipperary Gardai launched appeal.

17 dogs and guns and other proceeds of crime recovered earlier this week in a raid on a travellers camp near London.

It is time that this is tackled head on.

7 Poms rescued on the M7. Taken from the mother far too early and no doubt on the way to similar traveller camps in England.

Wouldn’t be a great surprise if some of those dogs were stolen by their cousins in Ireland . Travellers are serious players in the drugs in the south east of the UK . Outside of Dublin travellers control huge swaths of rural Ireland’s drug trade .

The site in question, Star Lane, is a Gypsy site, not a traveller site. Gypsies and Travellers are 2 separate ethnic groups.

Calling a Traveller a Gypsy is the equivalent of calling an Irish person a brit.

I do find it amusing that the British press always try to claim good Irish are Brits and thenn when Gypsies are highlighted in the press as doing something bad they are Travellers. The Gypsy that got killed in London robbing the old man, he would be from this site

Gypsies and Travellers rarely mix and to be honest I actually know of this site. It has such a bad rep no Travellers would live on it. Bromley Council have not gone near it in years and they actually have responsibility for it

Dog theft is no hoax and it has risen substantially this year.

The hoax is people think a chalk marking (in a country with a lot of rain) or a cable tie (yep, they shine like a beacon on dark nights :D ) is a sign of a theft is about to happen. - That's the laughable hoax spread by fakebook and believed by people who simply cannot think independently and see how ridiculous such a suggestion is.

But definitely more dogs are being stolen as just like anything else, some people will pay over the odds and not question where the dog came from and also the punishment for dog theft is quite minor

We had a drone scouting, a car on the ground taking directions at 3am whistling for dogs and houses marked the next day. It seems like a sweep of an area at a point in time. They have moved on now but will be back.

To discount peoples personal experiences like that is wrong and gaslighting. You cant speak on behalf of everyone.

You saw a drone in the sky, someone whistled at 3am and there was a random mark on a house.

The human brain looks for patterns and connects things. There is no house marking, dognapping conspiracy.

I saw a post in another thread that they were using fireworks to find dogs. (Hence all the fireworks recently)

A conspiracy worthy of Gemma O Dougherty.

Dogs are being taken from their homes and families
    ; there is no conspiracy.

Gardai have advised people to report markings and take them seriously. It is quite bizarre that you are of the opinion that you personally know better than the Gardai and are more qualified to comment.

Christ, Donald Trump has a lot to answer.

Its BULLSH1T. Utter and complete BULLSH1T.

Just thinks laterally for just a minute. over 35% of homes have a dog. You don't need an effin drone to find one. You don't need chalk markings or cable ties or any other of this fake bullsh1t that fools believe.

There is not one verified case of a drone, chalk marking or cable tie or ribbon on the tree (yep that's another one) theft by any law agency in the world.

BTW - if you are in Dublin, drive down Bird Avenue, there are HUNDREDS of cable ties there - marking every lamp post and 2 weeks ago there were chalk marking outside loads of houses.

Then Gas Networks came along, did the work they wanted to do and left. No dogs taken.

I never said dogs weren't being stolen, what I'm saying is there's no 'house marking, drone flying, people whistling at 3am to locate dogs' conspiracy - that's just lunacy.

Of course the Garda are going to tell people to take things like 'house markings' seriously if they see them. If you see something that you perceive to be unusual or our of the ordinary they'll tell you to report it.

Whether or not the house marking is a cartel about to invade your home based on a piece of chalk or a random kid drawing X's on people's homes is another thing...

Yes there are links to drones scouting places. Keep it civil please. No need for effin and blinding. Save your bad language for those taking the dogs.

Person captured a video of it (drone) scouting their dog kennell and back garden in Kildare which was taken seriously by Gardai.

Another person who knows more than the Gardai. If Gardai are requesting people to take this type of behaviour seriously, it is not down to you to tell them differently.

I saw the drone at 3am - and heard the whistling (as did others). While other people saw the car casing the place. It is not your place to call me a liar.

You are aware that drones have been used to steal cars? And that dog theft is now serious organised crime, so it plausible that the criminals would seek the same opportunities?

Well, as I said above - if Guards are taking it seriously, not sure why you would be going out of your way to discredit them.

One woman had the cables and a van watching and came back to see a white van reversing up her driveway, open the van, which had dog crates inside chained to the wall and he proceeded to call her dogs over to him.

he did not realise there were people in the house.

i suppose she is lying too? Captured on CCTV. With the reg covered.

it suits a small cohort here to think they are above others and others must be stupid or aligned with Trump (!!!) or Gemma O Dougherty (who?) but the reality is it is those people themselves who are out of touch and should not be discounting other peoples real experiences.

Well, with all due respect, you'd have to understand that people might rather trust their own judgment and apply it to their own circumstances rather than someone who pooh poohs people's own experineces while at the same time references Gemma O Dougherty (?) when trying to make a point.

    https://kfmradio.com/news/02092020-1138/listen-kildare-gardai-issue-warning-about-cable-ties-marking-out-houses-pets

Here is a Detective from Kildare advising about cable ties being used to mark houses, and actually going one further, to say that the no of cable ties matches the number of dogs.

Why would you think you are more qualified to comment than a Detective?

It is very strange how you ask and answer your own question as if that closes the argument?

Numerous people here on this post have stated they have seen the cable ties/marks in their area. About five posts up you responded to a poster that the cable ties were a hoax. This poster earlier in the thread had given a personal example of cable ties being seen in their area.

People here have stated they have heard whistling to attract their dogs.

Personally I have seen a drone in my area and I have heard the whistling. At the same time as suspicious characters were spotted.

Gardai/Community Text alert areas across the country have issued warnings about markings.

Here is a Detective advising of Cable Ties being used to mark houses in Kildare and what they are seeing in reality.

Unfortunately, many dogs are being stolen from Kildare. Pippa and Dora are just two high profile ones. This is a warning to people to be proactive with their security. The Gardai here clearly state that have first hand experience of cable ties being used, but some random person on boards knows better than the Gardai and declares peoples concerns as a hoax.

    https://kfmradio.com/news/02092020-1138/listen-kildare-gardai-issue-warning-about-cable-ties-marking-out-houses-pets

What you are actually doing is discouraging people from reporting what could be suspicious behaviour. Reporting that behaviour raises awareness and may result in someone's pet being protected, which is more important than a need to feel superior over others.
