    Enjoyable thread tonight. Quite mellow.

I think we all know now that things could get worse in Dublin, but we will deal with it if it happens.

It is never ending though, that is the problem. Whack a Mole is right.

Whack a mole is pretty accurate, gotta make sure we don’t run out of hammers.

    100% agree.

NPHET & The Department of Health should be advising govt: Not Ronan Glynn on the front of the paper, with the lotto numbers every bloody day..... front of the Irish Times right now.

6billion cases, zero deaths. everyone is broke.... not a chance of a pint to cheer you up either.

LOL, but you know what I mean, it is just whacking something down and it reappears elsewhere, despite all the hammers.

This disease is so deadly that you have to be tested to find out if you have it..

These increased cases all across Europe is simply because they're testing more than ever.

Test only people who are sick enough to need treatment and this pandemic is over.

The only fix is a vaccine.... so we need to be whacking until it comes.

On average 10,000 deaths occur yearly in France from flu.
If you take 365 days that's just over 27 deaths a day.

Flu season runs from October to April in the northern hemisphere, so if you take the 1st of October to 30th of April that is 213 days.

So that would be just under 47 deaths a day.

Let's take the reports that France had its first covid 19 case on the 27th December 2019 as correct, to Saturday midnight which gives 261 days.
The number of French people who have died from covid 19 in this period, is 30,910 that's just over 118 deaths a day.

In Ireland the average yearly deaths from flu is 200 to 500, just going by flu season and using the 500 figure that's just over 2 deaths a day
The first case of Covid 19 confirmed here on 1st March, taking again midnight Saturday that's 196 days, 1783 deaths giving just over 9 deaths a day.

Based my post on the published data on both the flu and covid, and using the same logic that you were regarding the number of people who die daily. So why are you getting your knickers in a twist, because the data doesn't work out for you?

Exactly it's been over since May.

Well explained. Now explain the the significant increase in hospital numbers in France and Spain. Same virus, same will happen here (you may not have heard me as your head is buried in the sand)

Show me icu admissions and deaths.

Hospitalisation admissions are weak indicator of serious illness. You can do better than this?

Twice as many people died from suicide than covid since June.

50 people in the whole of Ireland are currently sick from covid, 9 (NINE) people seriously sick .

    How about something like:

"The old and vulnerable should exercise caution while the rest of society should carry on pretty much as normal (the old normal)."

I think those who have got the Covid already should have some state issued ID to say they are able to swan around without masks because they already got it. This would calm the fears of people when they see those recovered are grand except about 10 people in this country.

Which sounds as accurate as saying something like "3,700 crimes have been committed in Ireland" (or whatever the current prison population is).

    What?!

What I posted is factual. From the HSE. Sorry if it's not scary enough.

you think a clear message would include parenthesis (brackets)?

    Of course it could.

That wouldn't be the actual message—just the gist of it.

    Exactly !!

If suspected of being seriously sick, one is immediately rushed to hospital and remains there until well enough to leave if they survive.

If suspected of a serious crime, one is immediately rushed to jail and remains there until good enough to leave if they survive.

    No difference at all.

Our ventilation survival rate is incredibly high

    ?
    1 in 5 die ..
More people in ICU ventilated means more deaths likely in the next few weeks.
We are also now seeing doubling of numbers of over 65s getting ill in the last 2 weeks in Dublin, increasing Community Transmission, and deaths rising again.
Saying its just a few extra every day now for a while now...

Some logic there :D Why don't we stop testing altogether and pandemic is over...

Quick note on this. I know of 3 elderly people, 2 of whom have serious preexisting conditions. Who were admitted to hospital in the past two weeks with Covid. The were all related to the same outbreak. All three were seriously ill, 2 are now discharged, but the other one is still in a bad way, and is by no means out of the woods. None of the 3 spent any time in ICU.

Bit of a campaign on social media in the UK and up north to convince people to stop getting tested.

Logic is testing is revealing the numbers of infected, contributing to restriction measures. Stop testing and there will be no more pandemic.

The dregs of the dumbest fcukers on this earth. Brain dead.

Huge amount of communions and confirmations happening In Dublin the last few weeks with most people having large gatherings at home.
At one last week where I was told it was just family I left early as neighbors and friends started to appear for a drink , all crammed into a marquee in the garden. I left at 6 and at least 30 in a very confined space with more people arriving.
Again yesterday confirmation local to me where most were having it in homes with larger numbers going.
No wonder numbers are rising and I am expecting huge spike In the coming weeks.
Communions and confirmations are only a couple of examples where people are flaunting the guidelines.

The trend is not good. The rise in infections in Dublin is being masked by the reduction in Kildare.
The rate per hundred thousand by county means that if counties were foreign countries we’d have to isolate if returning from them. The writing is on the wall for whack a mole.

Sounds like an awful plan. Why not be proactive now and the last few weeks to keep cases low. Be proactive not reactive seems to have been forgotten about . The new plan of schools must be open and restrict everything else seems pretty severe. Not the most detailed article hopefully their is more concise plan going forward but I doubt. How are Third Level colleges going to work also seems to be forgotten about. Can students even travel home now? Will they be allowed attend college every day. Its an awful situation for that age group.

People in Kildare must be very very angry. The lockdown has worked their and now it seems it was all for nothing essentially.
