Was chatting to an ex-colleague who works for Abbott and asked him about the BinaxNow antigen test as it actually looks good. He says Trump done a deal for 150m of them buts reckons it’s exclusive to USA market won’t be sold elsewhere.

Do we know how long the AZ investigation will take?

    Question RE testing procedures.
Are symptomatic close Contacts given priority when it comes to testing?

What kind of priority? Like quicker appointments? Is yes, then no.

I think they are going to take their time as they should. The lab work will take maybe a couple days, but I'm sure they'll put that spinal fluid through lots and lots of tests to find what exactly is causing the inflammation. That will take a bit longer I think, I wouldn't put past it for them to put the samples under a good EM and see if they can spot any viral vector infiltration.

The press handled the delay so irresponsibly. They immediately rushed to plaster the story everywhere and haven't followed up any of AZ's or Oxford's statements. Now when it's being distributed all people will remember is hearing of the initial delay, potentially putting them off. Stupidity.

so if it turns out 3 or 4 vaccines get fully approved and ready for market, will every country go for one or is it just a market thing, go for the best price thing?

Availability is going to be the big issue at the start. Then it's price and performance.

Will that be the case if vaccines are already in production giving supplyba head start?

Yes, I'm afraid so, even with the manufacturers going full bore now, there simply will not be enough for anyone who wants the shot initially. Hopefully, all going well, that problem should should gradually become less and less of an issue with new candidates coming to the market and new production capacity being brought online.

Having said that, there is quite a bit now hinging on the investigation results from the AZ/Oxford hold. They have massive production capacity with a huge stockpile already produced. Switching over to some other platform will take time for them.

It looks now that the Pfizer vaccine has become the front runner, although anything I have read about the Oxford adverse event doesn’t seem too worried that this cannot be overcome

Great news indeed. Oddly, RTE aren't covering this. I'm pretty sure it was one of their main headlines when the trial was paused.

George Lee is probably in tears right now

You won’t see it anywhere. Doesn’t fit the narrative.

Good to hear Pfizer are expanding their trial.

I don't think the news out of China has been posted here yet, but they've apparently vaccinated several hundred thousand already (I suppose you could think of it as a huge phase 3 trial).
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/china-injects-hundreds-of-thousands-with-experimental-covid-19-vaccines-11599834029

"China National Biotec Group Co., a subsidiary of state-owned Sinopharm , has given two experimental vaccine candidates to hundreds of thousands of people under an emergency-use condition approved by Beijing in July, the company said this week."

It's actually on the site now surprisingly, what's not surprising is that it's buried at the bottom of the front page. Just in case anyone might see it and feel positive I suppose.

Also not surprising they say in it that Oxford vaccine might not be available until 2022. Goes against all commentary from vaccine producers

Why doesn't this fit the narrative? Why would there be a narrative that doesn't want this to be over in the near future? I mean clearly there is. I've taken to watching the WHO press briefings whenever I see any sort of reporting about what the WHO say and it is almost always the worst possible take on a usually quite neutral, sometimes even potentially positive statement. But why?

I'm guessing the geniuses at rte know better than the actual professors at Oxford.

The WHO maybe but not NEPHET. Telling people good news wouldn’t instil fear in them

Does anybody know where to get accurate local figure for infections? I live in Wexford and we have seen a steep increase in infections here over the past month according to the daily reports but when I look at Gov.ie website and go to the local map, this is not apparent.
I would expect increases to be localised but even in places with high rates of infection, numbers don't appear to be rising in line with the reports.
