This crisis has revealed a hidden Ireland full of Prohibitionists. Never would have dreamed there were so many people with grudges against drinkers and publicans. Eye-opening.

It’s not even drinkers. It’s anyone! That post even somehow managed to bring people on the dole into it too. Weird as I read today that there is a big increase in cases in south east Dublin. Probably not too many on the dole there. There’s a lot of hate in this country right now I think.

I had no grudge against publicans until they started cheerleading MUP, and most recently wanted off licence sales stopped if they weren’t allowed to open. The lot of the greedy pricks can go **** themselves for all I care now, couldn’t give a **** if they never open again.

They called for off licenses to cease trading knowing full well it would never happen. They called for it to point out a hypocrisy. If cases were appearing from house parties surely it would be a logical suggestion. House parties continued with no real enforcement of restrictions yet pubs were not allowed to open.

If the government could magically come up with the money to keep pubs shut and pay the bills for publicans during all this I guarantee you we'd hear precious little about the fate of the poor isolated rural drinker with the pub as his only social outlet.

    What are you talking about.
Publicans have had grudges against anyone drinking in restaurants or at home for decades.
Look at the how they cheered on minimum unit pricing, and fight tooth and nail when Michael Mc Dowell wanted to make it easier to get a drink.

I remember those things but I didn't realise people were keeping a tally and nursing a grudge for years afterwards.

Before covid the last time I had read about McDowells cafe-bars were when the idea was in the news originally, whatever year that was.

I thought McDowell had a very good idea - he had a constructive replacement for pubs.

Today's anti-social cranks want to rip the social fabric to pieces out of spite, replace it with nothing and they themselves are either chained to their spouse or permanently hibernating with their laptops.

No bloody choice. I have to deal with the carnage. The biggest laugh was the publicans claiming they are a responsible bunch and wouldn't allow public drunkedness in their establishments. The pub industry survives on small numbers of regular heavy drinkers(ie alcoholics). Without fail they serve drunk people then let them out on the streets(assaults accidents etc), where a condition on their licence is not to serve drunk people.
    We have too many pubs
Paradoxically if the number of pubs were halved there would be less trouble as the remaining publicans would be able to make a living on a larger, less regular customer base(ie social drinkers)

Table service regulations for Covid will give mcdowell what he wanted all along. Continental style cafe bars

Well I think that's a boards thing, people on the dole being brought into every discussion.

It must be wonderful having such psychic powers. Any chance of the Lottery numbers?

This old 'died with Covid not of covid' is wearing n and quite insulting to those who have died and their families.

Would you give over. More nonsense.

That's not the reason why most people are concerned about the reopening of pubs.

I didn't say it was. More nonsense from you

There have been loads of cranks on these threads expressing anti-alcohol, anti-vintners sentiments. That's what I'm addressing.

The daily figures aren't that important. The 7 and 14 day figures are and they are alarming.

And both those figures are going up.

My post wasn't disputing that. It was highlighting that when they're reporting the daily figures they take a totally different approach whenever there's any significant drop.

Why though ? Dying with and dying cause of Covid is actually important and potential inflating the significance of Covid .

Minimum unit pricing hasnt even kicked in yet.

I cited McDowells plan as but one example over the years where publicans were v happy to align themselves on the sides of prohibiting or restricting alcohol sales.

This time the shoe is on the other foot.
Still they went on to attack off licences.
If they are really concerned about prohibition they need to be standing together with other alcohol sellers.

Following government advice, I removed my son from school as he was showing 2 symptoms. On day 3 we contacted our doctor. This is day six without a response.
Should we send him back to school or not. His fever is gone and the cough is much less. So, according to public health advice, he is now okay to attend school. Am I right ?

There was a list of what to do if 's from the HSE posted here at lunchtime .

Contact with confirmed case or anyone with a history of travel ?

Edit. Posted graphic two posts down

Be interesting to see the swab positivity rate over the next few days. Tens of thousands of hypochondriacs tormenting doctors for tests every day I'm sure.

Whatever about Meat Plants, nursing home staff should be tested as first priority.
Schools and Meat plants should be secondary.
