Yes. Some people have medical conditions which mean that they should not take the vaccine as it can lead to adverse reactions. It will be the same with the Covid 19 vaccine when it comes. So everyone should not take it.

Is there any alternative in those circumstances?

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change this World

I hear Dr Ronan Glynn giving out some slightly contradictory-sounding messages. On one hand he has said words to the effect that people must not lick themselves away socialise to maintain their mental health, and on the other hand, to keep socialisation to a minimum. I get what he means, ie strike a bit of a balance and maintain some face-to-face contact, but it does sometimes come across that he is speaking from two sides of his mouth as he has said these things alternately.

i'll die before i stop licking myself.

That cases are jokingly being referred to as a part of a beer delivery! It tends to get posted about lunchtime by a couple of posters who have a source.

Seems like nowhere manages to escape an outbreak in the US..new hotspots emerging in the midwest now which has largely escaped outbreaks until now. With highest positivity rates being reported in Iowa, the Dakotas, Kansas and Missouri.

USA is now projected to hit over 400,000 deaths by new years..pretty shocking number really. Sounds absolutely massive

They are well over their peak now.

Geography/climate wise the country is massive.

    Only a projection.

Wash hands and socially distance. If everyone does this then there will be less flu this year anyway. I have taken the flu jab for the last three years. Despite this I had two nasty viral infections in the previous Nov/Dec periods - in hindsight I will put it down to packed public transport and the air conditioning in the open plan office which seemed to lead to a lot of sickness among colleagues.

The biggest benefit of this virus in years ahead:

    - people will wash hands more regularly.
    - people will be much more aware of the dangers of viral transmission in packed places.
    - people will realise they should not be present in an office or work environment when sick and employers will realise that encouraging such a culture will be costly to their business.

If Dublin cases continue to rise, pubs there may remain closed

The caveat is they open in areas where there aren't local restrictions

Testing figures are all over the place, with 308 yesterday and 84 today you would think we were doing superb.

It's just a projection though, in reality the US isn't even in the top 5 per capita in the world for covid deaths. In fact they are only 10th.

Still bad but you'd swear they where miles ahead of everyone else listening to the media

I think the US is doing really badly to be at tenth considering it's size and diversity and scale. It is the size of continent and the fact it is tenth in the world in deaths per capita overall means a failure of disease suppression and control and leadership at state level across pretty much the entire country. If the US states were countries 4 states would have the highest numbers of deaths in the entire world, and the next seven states would place at 6th,7th,9th,10th, 12th,13th,14th and 15th highest deaths per capita in the world.
Dont know how that could be seen as anything but a failure really! Literally none of the US has done even moderately well at preventing spread of the virus, just 4 states are below the global average of 115 deaths per million, mostly the extremely low density very rural states like Wyoming and Vermont

Surprised at the high incidence levels in Dublin South East. Thought the west of the county had the highest incident rate

Just about the time the CDC stopped reporting on the situation in the US

The cdc have nothing to do with the state reporting of their numbers. You can go to the Florida dhhs site to see the figures and bypass the CDC altogether. The numbers are declining.
