I missed this one at the start (probably because I didn’t think it would affect us at that stage!), but how did they claim it would spread if it wasn’t person to person transmission?

No evidence of person to person.

    It's the language they use...

They never say anything until it's 100 per cent which is fair enough. They woujld lose credibility otherwise.

As a Galway person, I'm a bit concerned about the jump in numbers over the last few days in the county.

People talking about how there's been "no cases" linked to pubs/restaurants don't have a clue what they are talking about. A popular "restaurant" in the city is closed at the moment... and it isn't for renovations

What do you propose? Stay closed for another few months? Wasn't the strategy to live with the virus, flatten the curve and allow health service to cope? Two steps forward and one back if and when necessary due to a cluster is better than stuck standing still killing these businesses and people's right to have a semblance of normality.

I thought about this theory before but if it was the case surely it would have gotten into the nursing homes earlier too and we would have had the same effect as we did in March/April.
With care homes it seemed to come in from staff and quite a few care homes were not up to scratch on infection control so it spread very fast.

Just read some news online, there's a toddler in ICU in an Irish hospital.

Poor little child, hope he/she pulls through

Many kids and under 50s catching it now

There may come a point when the numbers are too great for the health services to cope (hopefully wont happen) but surely the only option at that point (or before it) is to revert some of the lock down scenarios?
Hopefully it doesn't get to that - for that to happen everyone needs to follow the current guidelines and the state themselves need to do better in some areas.

Of course, pick out anything to make it fake news. Only on boards.

There was a discussion on it earlier. Lots of gaps in information and some HSE figures don't reflect what the article claim

Could well be true but so far the mirror and the sun reporting it.

Myself and sl1ppy were chatting about it earlier

It's a fake scaremongering headline, no evidence of any kid in ICU..they looked at the HSE website and wrote a bull**** article on something they noticed which turned out to be incorrect. Sure if it helps keep your fear levels elevated take it as Gospel.

The Mirror? Bastion of investigative journalism lol.

Absolutely, needs serious fact checking! Just posted as it was only link I found.

I have had to stump up my own money for a biopsy that I've been waiting on a year. I've no health insurance and the public list is so long I'll be dead before I'm seen. The increase in Dublin numbers is worrying. I can't afford to have this cancelled. There are a number of cases in my local area due to some plonker coming back from his holiday and throwing a house party. These fools don't realise the knock on effect their selfish actions have.

The government has done sweet fcuk all to help us against selfish people who behaves wrecklessly endangering others. There should have been new laws to fine people breaking public health guidelines.

Yeah that’s my point if it was circulating within the country earlier in the year we would have seen it hit them bad like at the start of this

I'm not proposing anything; I wouldn't be arrogant enough to presume that I know the answers to what is the best approach. I'm saying that I'm concerned that numbers in Galway - where I live - are rising.

That's fine and apologies if you think I was having a go. Did McConkey say what would happen after the six weeks if we see a rise again.
I have no time for him due to the number of times he has changed his opinion.
Staines is looney tunes but at least he is consistent.

McConkey wants to lock us down and seal us off from Europe. Government don't seem that keen on the idea. More chance of pigs flying. McConkey seems irrelevant at this stage..

Yes, let's not let facts get in the way of a good misery story reacharound festival.

This exact thing was covered earlier today in the thread before the story was published plus the article gives no information about the state of the poor child just that it is in ICU and has tested positive for covid.

Well lots of people frightened again. My whatsapp group is flying. Lots of new “facts” and rumours including that the Cabinet is meeting now - surely we will not have a Leo special address by MM?

I doubt the accuracy due to it not being mentioned by RTE or the 'paper of record'.

We cannot have a full lock down again so what are the restrictions which can be brought in again! Are we at this point now?

    - restrictions to 2km or 5km from home?
    - restrictions on non family members in private homes?
    - shut down any eat-in/drink in establishments?
    - shut down retail with the exception of food?
    - shut down hairdressers/barbers/retail?
    - shut down schools?
    - stop Dubs leaving the a county?
    - shut down construction sites?

Do we do this for two weeks to get numbers under control?

    Were have cases arisen?

Restrict dubs and limerick to within county.
Shut down restaurants in Dublin limerick
No visitors to homes in counties with big numbers.

2k limits etc was brutal. Never again I hope.

So it's not a bastion of journalism but this article just indicates how the figures are directly taken from the data provided by the HPSC. If you've got an issue with it, write to your local councillor or something.

Plenty of stories the RTE or "paper of record" have not run. I agree the rags are not the best for reliability but they have broken stories before that were true.
Case of wait and see if it gets deleted or its gets picked up elsewhere.

Dublin probably getting restricted. Nothing much else.

Yes. Dublin and Limerick. But where are the transmission happening.

Not sure I would like the 2km limit again but 5km limit? Is the App helping? Maybe it can be used to track movements in respect to the limits.

Huge news considering well over 70% of the Irish population is under 50.
