What evidence do you have it's a result of schools, the number you see today isn't today's number.

Where is the evidence it isnt

182 in Dublin, 25 in Kildare, 19 in Limerick, 15 in Wexford, 15 in Louth, 8 in Wicklow, 6 in Galway, 6 in Clare, 6 in Kilkenny and the remaining 25 cases are located in Cavan, Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath.

I wonder how many from schools?

People not doing enough to keep the virus at bay. I include myself in that taking risks lately.

Part of me wonders if they're opening the pubs to try and curb people from house parties, putting it in a slightly more controlled environment.

It's hard for cases to occur in pubs if they aren't open.

Newsflash: They are occuring anyways, so keeping the pub sector closed isn't the answer to lowering the cases... The pubs are open all over the EU..

Date is set now, they will open in areas that don't have local restrictions

You'd have to wonder how they couldn't open sooner if they're able to open with these case numbers especially in Dublin.

Dates have been set three times before and if the publicans on the radio are representative of publicans in general there seem to be a belief it when it happens attitude.

None of them dates have been you will open on this date. That's what they got today.

As was said they open in areas that don't have local restrictions

I don't think pubs opening will reduce the incidence of house parties. The opposite I'd reckon based on closing times.

As a Galway person, I'm a bit concerned about the jump in numbers over the last few days in the county.

People talking about how there's been "no cases" linked to pubs/restaurants don't have a clue what they are talking about. A popular "restaurant" in the city is closed at the moment... and it isn't for renovations

Any word on the death? Another old case?

From what i've read, COVID-19 is also often asymptomatic in people with underlying conditions and may cause no complications at all. Yet it is still listed as the cause of death even though the patient had no COVID-19 symptoms.

    cite what you've read

At least two businesses in town are closed for that reason. The sensible thing to do given the circumstances.

They are occurring anyway - yeah, so we may as well add more fuel to the fire so.

Pedro Sanchez definitely won't have another national lockdown in Spain. So why are our government and NPHET not ruling out a second lockdown here? Given that the recent rise in the number of infections is caused by an increase in testing, the situation hasn't got any worse.

Because they can not rule out something but doesn't mean it will ever happen. It could be used as a last resort and even then chances are probably slim so all the one

    It's weaker?

    Perhaps.

Viral load among the infected may be lower due to social distancing.

But case fatality rates are down across all age groups in Europe.

We may end up in trouble after Christmas, who knows, but I don’t need any reason to panic just yet.

I'd say it was an older person alright but they didn't give the age so only guessing

Yeah you would wonder. Appearently each of the next 3 Mondays were discussed and the middle on was picked. Appearently has the blessing of NPHET

Yeah but the publicans seem to be wary of the date given.

"underlying clinical condition", ie: something that 33% of the population have and 50% of over 50s have and something people would have otherwise lived full and relatively healthy lives with.

My mother, to take one example is 65 and has high blood pressure. Sure **** her, her death wouldn't count if she were to die from Covid as she "had an underlying condition".

Cases rising sharply again. Schools open. Pubs about to reopen. The "me me me" people have spoken. Say goodbye to any elderly relatives now. One way or another you wont be seeing them for a long time if at all.

People never said cases linked to pubs / restaurants. Clusters is what was said, 5 since March and all closed.1 popular Dublin pub had a staff member test postive and closed for 2 weeks recently, now reopened as it was 1 single case and all staff were tested with customers also traced

Country has nothing to do with a dodgy vaccine..

Dodgy countries have always done dodgy vaccines/nuclear power stations etc due to poor regulatory controls. Healthy competition and pressure can be good. The amount of new inventions created ww2 was staggering. Political pressure/survival/heroism, whatever you want to call it. We are a small country and we probably need other countries to solve our current predicament. Upcoming US elections could be seen as very helpful in history books.

You couldn't be 95% certain they won't do it but they really don't want to. They didn't rule it out nor in. That leaves them with the nuclear option as an absolute last resort. We'll have a whole lot of other mini-restrictions before that ever happens.
