Yeah even in my own work theres a few who keep saying oh things will never got back to normal, a vaccine is a dream thats years away. Try to explain the trials to them and its just oh no but the government said its years away.

    Nobody actually researches for themselves

Yup completely. Even a quick Google would help :)

Try telling people that and then they'll start rambling about not trusting it because it would be "rushed". Reddit Ireland is notorious for this too.

They seemed to have a better geographical spread for their phase 3, Oxford was mostly UK based until they sorted trials in Brazil and South Africa. Wouldn't be too surprising if Pfizer are getting a better early read as infections arise.

Has the EU negotiated a deal for for Pfizer's?

If Pfizer keeps up the enrollment pace they would be done with the prime shots by end of this week. They enrolled 5k last week and only had 5k to go to get the full 30k primed. Since they have a 14 day booster schedule, they should be well into the booster shots as well. In the next week or two they should be able to start counting the infections.

Do you think they'll be ready to publish any data this or next month?

Apparently so or in October. Either way it's in the next few weeks. Exciting stuff!

Even though Russia and China have already rolled out a vaccine

Unlikely to be this month, just not enough time left in the month. They'd have to get incredibly lucky for that. Think I saw someone on Reddit trying to add the numbers up and an optimistic scenario was 30 days for a 30k volunteer group in the US to get a statistically significant difference assuming a 100% effective vaccine. Towards the end of next month would be more likely to get some results from them.

Ah, sorry, meant to reference Pfizer/BioNTech with that comment.

Pfizers seem very confident today. 60% chance it’ll be good to go in October.

The government should come out and say that a vaccine isn't years away. Would help quell the stuff I hear daily from customers and colleagues in work.

"We won't be traveling for about 5 years!"

"I'd say we'll be like this for another 2 years!"

      Etc.
I don't think our lot have been doing it, nor most governments. McConkey and co yep and random scaremongering guesses & claims from all over the internet have fed it even more so. Here they've tended to just follow the NPHET script, with few predictions.

No one in their right mind will take a vaccine developed in 7 months.

      Insanity!

Have you read/followed along to anything vaccine related in the last few months?

      These aren't rushed.

Just like with the failed Covid tracker app, the majority of people will see sense and refuse this rushed vaccine developed at break neck speed.

      Just watch. :o

Do you know a coronavirus vaccine has been in development since the SARS outbreak in 2002?

I will take the vaccine as soon as its offered to me. In fairness though, I'd nearly ask Putin to mail me a dose of their vaccine at this stage. Can't be much worse for my health than dealing with stupid Irish people. (yes I am Irish, born and bred)

Wait until they hear that they’re repurposed SARS vaccines!

In that case, I wish you luck with your vaccine.

I have a feeling you're going to need it.

You are free to take whatever you choose, I won't be partaking under ANY circumstance.

You come and try to make me take that crap!

Anti-vaxxers love to repeat the same things over and over again. We heard you the first time.

Oxford vaccine trial halted by Astra Zeneca for a safety review

The anti-vax gob****es will leap on this, but it shows the process works and speed is not being prioritised over safety.

Exactly. They paused it themselves. A case of "right lads let's take a look at it before we publish our findings soon"

      Great to see.

If anything it makes me feel more confident about this Oxford vaccine.
