True but he knows nothing about epidemiology and wouldn't use the title to give the impression he does.

Be honest you just wanna say You know nothing Jon Campbell:D

    So what are you saying?

Dr John Campbell has a PhD and has tought nurses.

Epidemiology = the branch of medicine which deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other factors relating to health

I would kind of hope that a retired nurse like him and teaching nurses would know about diseases and infection control.

Think the most important fact is that his phd is in education, which along with his medical background leaves him eminently qualified to communicate on the disease to the great unwashed. It does not however qualify him to draw epidemiological conclusions on less than complete data

So he's nurse John Campbell with a PhD :D

Just pointing out John wasn't the only one mentioning the potential benefits of Vit D.

Just pointing out John wasn't the only one mentioning the potential benefits of Vit D.

He was actually talking about VIT D back in February (2 months before your link), but that’s not the point. He’s stated many time’s that the VIT D thing is something anybody in medicine would of considered a potential factor, he's mostly been asking why nobody has been running tests with VIT D and exploring how it may help.

Fair enough, I don’t see the difference.

He knows what he’s talking about and has helped me understand a lot on how to respond to the virus. Not just that, he’s helped prepare for what’s happened long before most general sources and he doesn’t sensationalise anything,

I’ve also watched a lot of medcram videos (anybody who knows them know they are top notch and as reliable as it gets) that often overlap what he talks about and regularly backs up what he’s saying. In many regards he can help chat through medical stuff in English that can be hard to understand, especially when the Med cram stuff gets quite technical.

I really don’t get what some people have agaisnt him, especially when they don’t really know what he’s saying or why he saying it. He’s a superb source for information, very often weeks ahead of the stuff you read in here which is quite often garbage to be honest.

A lot of those medcram videos are crap. An awful lot of doctors don't have enough laboratory experience to properly assess the images/data in scientific publications, and over rely on the introduction and conclusions. Unfortunately a lot of the time papers conclude things which their actual data doesn't really support. An actual scientist, versed in those techniques can often see the pitfalls, such as inadequate controls, misinterpretation of the evidence etc. From the medcram videos I've seen, your man is one of those doctors who believes whatever is in the conclusions.

Except John Campbell is not medcram, totally different crowd altogether

What alternative sources do you recommend?

    13,000 community referrals. Eek.

Also, new way to sign off - “don’t be fearful, just be careful”

I think the mention of Medcram was because of Drumpots mention of the source earlier, open for correction of course.

I know there is probably a weekend effect increasing that referral number but that is very worrying, we can expect delays in testing if that persists. Will also make the nursing home and meat plant testing difficult to maintain.

Haven’t watched the RTÉ 9pm news for probably 2 months. Just turned it in now and who else do I see straight away but Sam McConkey suggesting that we should lock down for 4-6 weeks....“we did it before and we can do it again”.

    Jesus

Listen to the public health advice. There is no magic solution to gaining immunity to this. The best thing you can do is maintain your general health as well as you can; eat plenty of whole foods, maintain a healthy weight, don't overdo the sugar and alcohol and engage in moderate exercise. Couple this with sensible social distancing measures where possible to avoid catching covid 19 and avoid passing it on to others. If you have symptoms suggestive of covid isolate and get tested. If symptoms get worse insist on medical care to ensure it is treated properly. Reading about possible treatments and cures is not going to help as much as those measures will. The doctors and nurses who will treat you if you get seriously sick from covid have more knowledge and experience of this than you have. That's what they are there for.

Ireland is heading "very slowly, but steadily and progressively into another epidemic" according to a consultant in infectious diseases at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Speaking on RTÉ's Drivetime, Professor Sam McConkey said the number of Covid-19 cases in Ireland are "very concerning".

That's a massive jump in referrals. Here's hoping it's just people being cautious and requesting a test. They seem to be hammering home the message of requesting a test if you have any symptoms.
The Twitter comments.... My God, some nutters on Twitter.
