Nearly impossible for them to roll back anything until the virus is gone.

It's likely they'll be rolled back.

Even more likely, highly probable in fact, that they will be rolled back once the virus is gone.

Can people stop calling them “wet pubs” now before my brain melts.

    Agreed.

Pubs are pubs. The only distinction was some used the measures at their disposal to open and some didn't. Not opening doesn't make your pub "wet".

Hopefully soon people will stop saying "wet pubs"

The whole thing doesn't make any sense. Like, tables in pubs are generally big enough to fit 2, 4 or 6 people. So we're relying on each pub to be lucky enough to get the right combination of mates turning up to fit their particular table configuration in order to be as profitable as possible, given the no standing, no sitting at the bar rules.

And if you turn up with 5 people does 1 lad have to sit at a table on their own if tables aren't big enough?

Going to the pub shouldn't be this hard. I couldn't be arsed going in the current climate.

small places will still pull the 'locals only' stuff and save the seats for them

Being turned away from a pub is mortifying

Possibly in 5/10yrs, there being brought in without any idea of the effectiveness. What are they basing their recommendation on? Were going to reduce infection by asking smokers to sit down instead of stand, it's nonsense they've no idea what there up to, government had made them the scapegoats if anything goes wrong hence we end up with such draconian laws.

Are pubs going to allow kids back in?

    Doubt it.

that is ultimately the point of the rules.
allow pubs to open but try and keep numbers going to them down for now so as to try and manage the spread of the virus.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

    "any tables free
    Did you book
No, I was just heading home, thought I'd pop in
Sorry, we're booked up till 7"

If that's your idea of mortifying, you've lead a very sheltered life....

I was in one a few hours ago getting food with the kids, are they not meant to be there?

I'm annoyed, what's been proposed is not the pub, my main 2 locals can't function under these proposals.
If the rules can't justify a worthwhile reduction in case numbers they shouldn't be introduced.

I just managed a christening for 40. Parents and kids everywhere. In a very large space

    No I was just wondering.

As one of my locals isn't allowing kids in since they reopened.

Seems kinda pointless, so many pubs are going to close. Just go back to the way things were and if we suddenly hit 1000 cases a day or whatever, then bring back the current restrictions. Go big or go home, if you will.

    I hope not.

They should be banned from bars for sure, particularly " wet " bars. What are they doing there?

Yes, actually. This is what they did to my group of 6 in Clancy's in Cork. It was awkward.

It knows when it’s 11:30 or if you’re eating a meal or not. It’s fairly clever. Those Chinese sure can design a virus.

The mental health of people really isn't being taken into account as much as it should be during this pandemic. Not just from the powers-that-be but from us to one another.

One of the biggest issues I find is the constant peddling of conspiracy theories by people (not you of course) whose own mental health is obviously compromised to those who are vulnerable to these kinds of things. Being cooped up exacerbates this kind of thing and I've seen friends & family be taken in by such things (remember Covid was being caused by 5G?).

The sooner everything is back to normal, the better! People will be able to get back to normal, get back to their hobbies, interests and socialising, and improving their mental health!

Scary times and so hard to look at the bright side. Things will get better but the fear stuff needs to go esp by social media

No I don't agree with this. We do need to respect the fact we want to manage the impact of the virus.

Can't be a case of give an inch and take a mile. I know for a minority of pubs this will mean they will hit the wall before all restrictions are lifted and don't receive adequate financial support.

But if the gov opens up pubs that can be close to break even point with these restrictions and employ staff who are currently laid off that will have a significant effect on easing the burden on the Exchequer over the course of the next 6-9 months.

That frees up some funds theoretically to help out those struggling businesses, whether they get the support they receive is another matter but at least there's a chance.

I haven't set foot in a pub since Christmas, but I think they're being shafted considering the numbers. Just my opinion.
