Younger people are a vector, plus there is a huge lag between infection, serious illness and deaths.

Expecting and hoping young people will live and behalf like hermits ain't going to happen.

It's the story on the RTE site, a little higher but still low and ICU at 6 but the story of course as usual has a huge cohort of "suspected cases".

South Korea had 9 critically ill covid patients on August 18th. 2 weeks later the number is 124. Because it has migrated from the younger population and is now affecting people over 60 much more.
By the way, young uns, 60 is not even near old.

Scary how quickly it infects and although it's a common belief there's no sign this deadly virus is actually weakening.

The population in Seoul is approx 4 times more than Dublin so I wouldn't think we'd have such a huge number of infections over such a short time though the potential for such a catastrophe is there.

A bigger rise in cases & decisions will need to be made.

What decisions can you see happen, 50 is 50 too many on trolleys but there was thousands on trolleys this time last year.

Confirmed cases in hospital were at a low of 6 at the end of July, it's now at 40. So it's definitely increasing.
Our rolling average of cases is staying steady, so I'd expect to see the hospital number level off in a few weeks time and then fall (assuming new cases fall)
ICU occupancy is really steady, so that's a positive.

Thanks I think I'll wait for the HSE figures. Suspected cases are not the same as confirmed. All being admitted to hospital are tested and are considered suspected cases until a test confirms either way.
    Overcrowding is nothing new .

Relax. I obviously don't make those decisions. Why you are angry at me is quite frankly, bizarre.Just try to post informative information. I thought it was a good tweet, summed up the situation we are in atm. It should hopefully get better in time. Importnat to remember. The key for society to function like it has is to control the virus. Denial and hoping it weakens just doesn't work.Sweden and USA prime examples of that

Covid App has 40 in the last 24 hours in hospital with Covid, 6 in ICU

Opening the schools is a massive punt.
While the government are doing their best,
that's not enough, I don't think they are doing what is necessary.
We will find out either way.

You didn’t answer the question. Do you want to see us locked up indefinately?

You claim it will get better but you them qoute this tweet:

“A world where the virus just goes away/runs through & economy/life is 'normal' just doesn't exist anywhere anymore.”

So what are you trying to tell us?

So you’re agreeing that normal life is over indefinately or is it getting better, which is it?

So Sweden are out the other side of this now. Victoria has just extended its state of emergency for another six months!

Lets assess the total economic damage in a year from now.

2 weeks without even one death in ROI

    The hysteria hasn't stopped though

Anxiety the big elephant in the room

There can be a delay in deaths being reported as Covid related and we have seen that in the past. Don't count your chickens.

I have a horrible feeling we'll still be hearing this line next March.

That same delay could mean no one has died with covid in 3 months.

So what do you think should be done? Easy to criticise when you don't have to make decisions, what are your solutions?

You must realize the situation can get better without returning to the old normal. Vaccine and therapeutics should help with an exit strategy. I think some level of suppression is the more logical one. Letting the virus run through a community has not worked anywhere

Easy to talk **** all day about multiple wives, various organs, saving mothers etc.

Post something verifiable or keep talking sh!te. your choice.

Well seen as though you ask, the government should try to follow their own public health advice around physical distancing. (not possible is schools since overcrowded) and test and trace. Masks in an indoor setting. All the good stuff.

Of course we need the schools opened, what form that takes is an experiment.
