Finally finished the Infamous series after completing Infamous: First Light, I enjoyed it but didn't bother with the challenges or the arenas, I don't enjoy those things.

Glad to moving onto something else now but I'm not sure what. I might try the Saints Row games, never played any of those before.

Dipped my toe back into the world of control with this DLC, Was quite enjoyable and didn't overstay its welcome.

Currently dividing my time between FF Tactics: war of the lions and outer wilds.

Outer wilds is great can see why it got so much praise, hard to know where to go though.

I decided to play short platformer as the last few games I played were open world so I picked Ratchet and Clank: A Quest for Booty. It was decent but very short and you spend half the game with no weapons. Still you can't really go wrong with a Ratchet and Clank game.

    Bangai-O Missile Fury

This is quite possibly the hardest game I've ever finished but also one of the very best games of all time. It's a triumph of mechanics and inventiveness over... well, accessibility and marketability. It's a hard game to understand and the demo is terrible. It's taken me three games a few years before this series has finally clicked. The mechanics aren't well explained. But it's amazing once you understand it. There's insane risk versus reward mechanics where you can fire out up to 4000 shots in one go but to do so you need to place yourself very close to enemy fire. But more importantly is balancing your dash and i-frames. It's an impossible to understand without playing it and watching someone play it will just confusing. The level design is really inventive where the same can change how it plays totally from one level to the next and even change genre.

It's such a shame this game is stuck on the XBox 360 as a digital game.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village HD

Own these all on the nintendo handhelds and never gave them more than a quick go on the DS. Found the mobile version was the perfect way to play the game in small bursts.

The HD version has had all the art touched up and it now looks gorgeous. The puzzles also work perfectly on a touch screen. The only big issue is the movies that either require you to turn your screen for fullscreen or play them in a tiny letterboxed mode.

As for the game, I enjoyed it but it's not perfect. The puzzle aspect doesn't really sit that well with the investigation aspect and the story never gets going until the final act. And even then the story is the usual crap from Level 5 and feels like the awful Ni No Kuni. However the puzzles are mostly excellent and there's a lot of them. Definitely a worthy game to have on the phone.

I hear the sequels get an awful lot better in terms of their story so looking forward to playing them.

Another PS4 game, to complete the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection:

    PC

Dark Souls III: Very enjoyable as expected; took my time with the playthrough (approx 50 hours) as I know I won't play it again due to backlog.

    PS4

Doom: The 2016 game; just loved it! Manic mayhem throughout.
Firewatch: It was ok but a bit of a letdown after all the rave reviews TBH :(
Uncharted: Drakes' Deception As the earlier two, really good fun. Just like being in a blockbuster summer movie! Not much of a challenge but's that's OK after Dark Souls III... :D

    Nintendo Switch

Ori and the Blind Forest: Really enjoyed it, fairly short so didn't get stale at all. Loved the Metroidvania elements.

    The Outer Wilds

Beautiful game , loved the sheer joy of exploring the planets. Had to look up some of the endgame stuff but the ending is well worth it IMO.

Final fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Glad I got to finally experience this, the initial chapters are a bit unforgiving but the job system is similar to the GBA ff tactics. The story was very GOT-esque and I really enjoyed it.

Currently batin my way through Yakuza kiwami at the minute, heard its short so hopefully be another one down off the backlog.

The story was very GOT esque and I really enjoyed it.

Both are based on the War of the Roses.

I'd go so far as to say FF Tactics is a far, far better story than GOT. I've started it on Android myself and chipping away at it. Early days but staying away from the baptism of fire that is Dorter Trade City until I've a few better classes.

    Yeah, Ovelia gets it rough
but think she is a great character and is a great stand in for how war affects the innocent and down trodden and how used they are.

I loved the story. Even in the barely english PS1 version. I'm looking forward to enjoying the decent translation from the android/PSP version.

If you ever want more of the same try Tactics Ogre. It's even grimmer as it's based on the Balkan war of the 1990's. So loads of ethnic cleansing.

I don't play Call of Duty games as I have absolutely no interest on online multiplayer games but I gave WW2 a go as it came free with PS Plus and I must admit that I really enjoyed the campaign. It was very well done with some incredible visuals at time. As usual, I didn't bother with multiplayer. I must try out more Call of Duty games as the only other one I've played was Modern Warefare which was enjoyable enough.

    Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion.
Finished the story but still some levels I didn't get done.
Not very good at shooting all the targets while on a rail.
But good DLC and enjoyed a lot of the levels

    Final Fantasy XIII-2

Finally finished this game and the post game content and DLC. Firstly it's an awful PC port. runs like garbage and needs to be fan patched to run with a surround sound set up and to not crash.

I really enjoyed this game and despite some issues it's such an interesting game that it outweighs the frustrations. It's a game that really makes do with what it's got. It's low budget so maximises it's budget by reusing areas but in different time periods. It's saddled unfortunately with the FF13 world and characters but doubles down on what was so good about that game, namely the combat which is expanded and the music which is excellent. Unfortunately it's set in the same world as FF13 which means nothing makes a lick of sense and you are never fully engaged with the characters and setting. It's a shame as I can see that they went for a chrono trigger vibe with post game endings which range from amusing to bleak but don't have any impact because you just don't care about them. They did make the game a lot less linear than FF13-2 and it's a much better game due to it.

Now for the bad. The post game grind for upgrading your monsters is ridiculous but you need them if you want to try some of the post game coliseum bosses. There's a few puzzles that are a nice distraction except for the clock puzzles which are garbage but thankfully there's an online calculator for solving them.

The DLC was great as well. Snow's DLC is a bunch of post game coliseum fights against returning characters from the FF series. You really have to take advantage of the battle system here and while there's some bull**** (the gilgamesh and snow fight) they were fun to figure out. Sazh's DLC was two gambling games and a short quest to find some chocobo chicks in the casino. One of the gambling games is a rubbish version of roulette. The other is texas hold'em. Sounds crap but the AI isn't too tough and I actually really enjoyed this. And then there's lightnings DLC which is a one on one fight with the main villian Caius. Lightning levels up separately and you basically keep trying to beat Caius to a five star rating which unlocks a new super boss to take on one on one. This one is quite enjoyable and you really have to use the battle system to your advantage to win. It feels like a practice run for the FF13-3 battle system. You also get the canon ending that leads into FF13-3.... which is a bit of a dick move.

So tl;dr I really enjoyed this despite it being utterly daft and it's a much better game than FF13.

I understand FIFA to an extent, the latter few instalments have had a story mode tacked onto them.

PES doesn't have such a thing, unless they're saying they beat Master League?? I don't know if that even has an end.

(EDIT) Could be a Platinum Trophy/1000G. I seem to recall when I made a Completed Games thread a few years ago that I'd count getting all trophies/achievements as completing a game. It usually involves actually doing everything in a game.

I was only joking as it reminds me of the inbetweeners. You beat a game once you decide you've beaten it... or it beats you.

    Yakuza Kiwami

Have to give this a meh rating. Same engine as yakuza 0 but missing the magic of it found the substories a bit dull in comparsion and very short.

Plot was okay cheesy enough. I have heard great things about yakuza kiwami 2 so will try get into that after I finish Ghost of Tsushima which should be arriving today.

Also currently playing castlevania portrait of ruin on Drastic, a great game.
    Nearly finished that too.

The Last of Us Part 2

Left my full thoughts on this on in the spoilers thread. No need to repeat them here as I've a lot to say about it. It's a very disappointing game, definitely the most disappointing of the year for me so far. It's actually quite a fun game with good encounters even if it's a good 7 hours too long. But the story just isn't great. It adds nothing to the original by being a sequel and it just doesn't go anywhere or mean anything in the end. Hollow is how I'd describe it.

    Another update

    Final Fantasy X (PC)
Medal of Honor: European Assault (XBOX)
    Project Gotham Racing 2 (XBOX)
    Indycar Series (XBOX)
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun (XBOX)
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (XBOX)
    Red Faction (PC)
    Red Faction II (PC)
    Sin Episodes: Emergence (PC)
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (PC)
Rise of the Tomb Raider (XBOX 360)
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (XBOX)
Enter the Matrix (XBOX) Controls are crap, but it's so easy it doesn't matter. A shame it was never finished properly as it could have been something really great.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC) Finally finished the campaign! A lot of the quests can be quite repetative adn the scenery has little variation, but it's still brilliant.
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (XBOX 360) To my shame, it was sitting in my unplayed pile for years before i got around to it. Great characters, beautiful levels, decent combat...it's the best 7/10 you'll ever play
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (XBOX) The best movie tie-in games don't try to replicate the film and it shows here. The first half is a fun enough romp through the nuked streets of L.A. with Tech-com, but when you go back in time and catch up with the film, it turns to $h1T, with the same boss fight repeated four times. crazy short as well.
Shellshock: Nam '67 (XBOX) It looks lovely but it's an agressively mediocre game full of barely fleshed out ideas and some mechanics straight up missing. (Twice you are told about the importance of stealth and encouraed to be stealthy but there's no stealth mechanic in the game!)

    GAME Ghost of Tsushima
    PLATFORM PS4

This game is good. To me, though, it did nothing special.

The story was okay. The gameplay was good - I really like the combat mechanics. The visuals were absolutely stunnning. Unfortunately, it took me about 6 weeks to beat because there was nothing that made me want to stick to it. I think this game was overrated just a bit. It's really good but it's no different to any other open world game. Maybe I'm losing patience in them.

    GAME Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
    PLATFORM PS4

Short and sweet. Typical of an Uncharted game - action packed, solid shooting mechanics, and the game is stunning. The puzzles were very enjoyable as well. I dare say they're better than the tombs in Tomb Raider.

Without spoiling anything, it didn't seem like the series came to an end. I reckon there could be another instalment in future.

    Ace Combat 7

I didn't mark this as complete last year as I had the DLC to beat which I only just got around to.

What can I say about this game that hasn't already? If you want balls to the wall action and excitement it's pretty much one of the best action games in the last 10 years. Set the controls to realistic and just enjoy the mayhem. The controls are perfect, it looks stunning and the soundtrack is a cracker.

As for the DLC, it's three missions but all three are excellent and all three are insanely tough. I had to knock the difficulty down to easy. The first is a mostly air combat orientated affair. Plenty happening in it to keep you on your toes and it ends in a boss dogfight.

The second is mainly focused on taking out ground targets. Lots of fun to be had as well and ends in another dogfight.

The last is the highlight and is one long boss fight against a gigantic submarine. Gameplay changes up constantly and it's a bit of a visual spectacle.

    Castlevania Portrait of Ruin

This game took me back to my youth playing Dawn of sorrow on the DS never did get this follow on at the time, so glad I got to play it now. Enjoyable game and the tag system is alright. Standard castlevania post symphony of the night, I heard Order of Ecclesia is meant to be quite good too so will play that next .
