I know schools are starting back. What is the situation regarding afterschool and weekend activities like football, sport, music, dance, drama, art activities - are they all resuming back to normality too?

Wouldn’t afterschool activities encourage more mixing and perhaps more close contacts?

I imagine they will impose a ban on corner backs and wing forwards playing outdoor sports to combat the rise.

Got to get those 1.1 million indoors no matter what!

93 cases of beer in Dublin.

That county is getting locked very soon

Little chance of that. Anything Kildare style won't work in Dublin for multiple reasons(not that you'd call it a lockdown, family in Kildare basically said its business as usual, same restrictions basically as the rest of the country), they also won't do it for more obvious business / economic reasons as was discussed here last few evenings.

Highest population, higher threshold on cases.

I have a friend, high risk with diabetes and asthma, his wife is even worse, severe high risk.

They are not sending their kids back to school because of this. Is there something in place for people like this for homeschooling? I can't imagine that parents in this category are expected to take the chance on sending their kids back to school?

It is not about whether it will work or not.

There may be no choice in a few months if cases continue to rise.

The Kildare lockdown is nonsense and would be even more nonsense in Dublin. All its doing is hurting local businesses whilst having little to no impact on people's actual behaviour.

They could choose to deal with the clusters directly and not lock the county down. They are basically telling us were too **** at contact tracing and can't be arsed putting anymore effort in so we'll just lock everyone down and stop the spread that way. People are not going to comply (especially when all they risk is catching a cough), the guards aren't going to enforce it but sure let's all just say were in lockdown, that'll scare the virus.

General question - should the daily numbers not be reported as:

"There have been an additional 100 positive samples for SARS-CoV-2 in the past 24 hours, of which 80 are displaying symptoms of COVID-19. An additional 15 cases who were previously asymptomatic have subsequently been confirmed as having developed symptoms associated with Covid 19.
Overall there have been an additional 95 cases of COVID-19 confirmed"

Has anyone listened to the Stefanie Preissner podcast with the anonymous nurse who contracted Covid? Found it very interesting! Also a little scary but glad I listened to it!

That's an alarming number, double the % of the usual positives to total tests. I still can't believe we're sending kids back now, massive mistake but won't change their minds unless we've a massive death wave.

Sport has been back for about the last 6 weeks down here, not sure about drama, art etc. Must have been 200 at under 8's training last week I gave up counting.

It might sound cruel but has your friend and his wife done anything to improve their conditions? You mention diabetes and in most cases people who have it are overweight and have bad diets, have they tried to improve their lifestyle and lost any weight? I'm not saying this is the case here but a lot of people never do anything to help themselves first, they'd prefer to just moan about whatever perceived injustice is falling on them.

Intersting. Yourdeadwright has been spot on with the numbers last few days and I'm fairly sure we don't have swabs v cases announced outstanding (open to correction here)

Maybe private testing if there is any

They were already in the shed, just hadn't counted them yet.

    Jesus. :pac:

    I'll play.

So if they report 15 asymptomatic cases, but 10 subsequently turned out to be presymptomatic do we then correct the record with de-notifications and re-notifications, etc?

It's going turn into quite a mess pretty quickly.

They were trying to keep the numbers down to ease political pressure, it's not working.

One would hope, given the disparity between yourdeadwright’s figure today and the positive swabs figure today, that numbers over the next couple of nights will be down a little.

We have seen it in reverse where confirmed positives didn't turn up in cases for a number of days, however when there has been no recent lag in cases, where can the additional numbers come from unless they are historic?

Its a thought experiment. We know from one high profile example that the vast majority of cases were asymptomatic, and never developed symptoms, so to call them COVID-19 is in accurate. But they are still potentially infectious and a risk to others, so they need to be counted traced and isolated

The 101 beers was yesterdays count, todays count hasn't been issued yet.

I think those are still yesterday’s test numbers, that usually gets updated around 3-4pm and yesterday was also 101 positives from 4,998 tests.

No we don't, there was no scientific study or any sort of study to the meat factory you are alluding to.

It was one throw away comment in a PR puff piece solely designed to make the owner sound like Oskar Schindler.

Type 1 diabetes has absolutely nothing to do with life style . It is an auto immune disease that attacks the beta cells in the pancreas . Children of 18 months have been diagnosed . Type 1 is a very different disease
