Covid 19 cases in ICU has been between 6 and 8 since 1 July. There are very few sick people now.
The reported cases are mostly people who didn't even know that they had a cold. People need to get realistic.

I’ve had a few close relations who contracted Covid . Believe me , it’s not “ a cold .” Long term lung/ heart damage are also an issue in even the youngest / most healthy

    Racist lol

Just a smarter culture, in this case objectively.

In your opinion maybe, personally I wouldn't label an entire race of people better or smarter or otherwise.

The belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another is...............racism.

Oh dear. You have gone from misplaced allegations of child abuse to misplaced allegations of racism. For your own sake you should have stayed away.

Societies can by nature of specific tradition and the way they are organised by better able to deal with certain problems. I would very much agree a lot of Asian societies do better than us when it comes to pandemics/ disasters in general. Also, on the smarter point: East Asian nations are long known to test for higher average IQ than pretty much any other grouping. Ireland is generally (and isn't improving much) the dumb cousin in Western Europe.

Is that still racist or should we just not talk about people in other countries?

Yes they certainly would have more experience with pandemics, which would be beneficial.

I just think it's wrong to brand an entire populace or race, which is what the poster did (several times already on this forum). It can cause bias and discrimination depending on the implications.

    Regarding masks

Have any schools communicated how many masks a student wud need to bring to school each day?

I'd guess students won't wear the same mask all day

Not that I was seeing, but schools in China recommended 2 change at lunch. But I would send 4 just in case. One moring to break, 2nd after break to lunch and then 3rd after lunch to end of day and a spare.

We were just told they'd need to bring their own mask, no mention of spares, handy to have a couple packed in the bag anyway and wash daily.

Even if they change it at lunchtime, would make sense but will probably get more info after induction days.

Marks and Spencers are doing nice 5 packs of cotton ones with the school uniforms that are fairly reasonable and comfortable. A couple of packs should see you through the week.

We were told to have one spare. I will give him one for the bus, one for school and a spare couple in his bag. I ordered a box of disposable ones through work so they can be the spare ones.

Personally I'm having three for the school day, one first break, one between the breaks and one for the afternoon.

Our school mngt said they have ordered maks for students and staff, colour coded with school crest! Ridiculous idea in my opinion - students get 2 masks ( presume we do too) and should bring both each day. Not a chance that one size will fit all or that people will manage to keep those two masks for the entire year.

How can they bring both each day ? When will they wash and dry them ?
I hang mine out on a line for 48 hours to be sure .

Embroidered with initials, similar to school jackets would be good, there's a few Irish websites doing those.

Crested ones are very fancy altogether :D

We're being issued a pack of ten every week (open plan office) with the option of removing them while at our desks (perspex dividers so we are.pretty isolated tbf). If we want more that's no problem but 2 a day seems to be the jist of it. I've been working from home since March and am only back in Monday so will be interesting to see how everything works because if we can't make it work in the setting we have I don't know what hope schools have.

Yes, we got info from our school saying the same, wonder if it’s the same school? Anyway first thing I thought was what a waste of money, and then wouldn’t they need a fresh one very day, or even two a day?
I’m sending her in with two of her own anyway.

I am going to create mayhem on Thursday.
    And thousands like me.
The schools are being left to solve the mess. The department of education have done nothing for schools, parents or pupils.
Norma Foley is hanging on to her position by a fine thread at this moment.
She may be gone by next weekend.

What will you do in winter?

    Tumble dryer works a treat.

Although it is still a stupid idea to be fair.q

A question for another thread most likely but what is with Irish schools obsession with the uniforms, crested this, tartan that. All style/appearance above substance.

Just watched a piece on CNN about a US health worker 35yo who has spent 2 months in hospital and 3 weeks on a ventilator with Covid and is about to lose her hands because of the disease. This isn't like the flu as some ignorant posters have pointed out this is a very very serious virus and if not controlled will lead to an America type scenario here for our health service.

Opening up the schools next week is not a good idea in my opinion but i realise others will view if differently.

We have a clothes horse ready for the shed . Masks need 72 hours , if not washed . Same for clothes / shoes.

I will highlight to the school, social media and local politicians where public health guidelines are being breached at the school.

I've a pre-start meeting and I intend on letting them know exactly what I think of the re-opening plan in person then too. I think a good few principals are in dream land and think everyone is on board with this tripe and it will go swimmingly. A few might be in for a shock.

Guaranteed that they probably won't be breaching anything in the document as the phase 'if/when/where possible' will cover it. Best bet is to go to the papers highlighting the differences between what is expected of the general public and what they want the schools to implement.

So now we are blaming principals for having to implement guidelines that are not fit for purpose!!! This thread is the gift that keeps on giving.

When not one link in the chain sticks their neck out and says "Hey this isn't right" then all are equally culpable for both design and implementation of a terrible plan. Just doing my job, just isn't good enough.

You do know that your ire being directed at the school is directed at that wrong people. Schools are only implementing what they have been given. We have been saying for the past month that the guidelines are pure muck.
