Whatever about the questionable cost Sammy, the data tracking and cloud storage you've mentioned, isn't dissimilar to what most with Android/iOS devices consent to.

    Maybe.

But you have to legally consent to apps

My 4 and 7 year olds don't have phones.

Why is there a need to store my picture and information? I have no problem with my temp being taken with a normal thermometer.

The temp scanner takes your picture?

Yes. I'm looking at it here online at the moment. It uses facial recognition and acts as a clock in and out. It's for business primarily I assume.

It's also their biometric data that's being stored, absolutely no need for it

That’s some serious piece of kit - what will ye do post covid ? it’ll hardly be still around for the next pandemic :D I’m sorry who thought this was a good idea ? Maybe ye are a big school and they thought normal thermometers wouldn’t cope with the volume of people ?

Cannot understand it at all. I also know as I have worked in the school for a number of years we do not have a GDPR policy in place and anytime it is brought up to the principall it is "too much red tape"

Small rural school with less than 120 pupils!!!! The principal purchased this with no consulting with anyone.

Principal is on a solo mission so - I think you should go for the LWR unless it would just cause you more stress.

Automated facial recognition can breach GDPR, as the technology often fails to meet the requirement for consent.

It's ok if parental consent is given, alternatively its allowed in some cases for security or health but that would take a blanket wide directive that these are required in all schools. Not in the case where someone in charge of the purse strings in one school decides to take it upon themselves.

I do think they are good and takes a lot of work out of taking a person's temp but the benefits of temp checking for covid are questionable plus you will end up with a huge queue of students waiting in line to be checked so logistically probably not worth it.

You may have done this already but if you have concerns about the reopening of schools you can send an email to reopeningschools@education.gov.ie.

It’s a school. It has a special shield from Covid, don’t you know!

Ah yeah, I know. But come on. Seriously. At what point are we going to stand up for ourselves? I've contacted the union about this - would others not do the same? I mean, I get that taking on the government to keep the schools closed might be too much but there is no reason our start up meetings have to happen with us all in the same room together. This is horsesh1t

Im a primary teacher and I feel that school reopening should be delayed 3 weeks to see if we can get cases down.

During that 3 weeks all teachers should be in schools for

    1) Getting the buildings/classrooms etc ready for the return of students. Huge work to be done and

    2) Clarifying and preparing the remote learning that will be used if/when the school(s) close so that it will be a seamless transition if it comes to pass.

However these ideas probably make sense so they won't be implemented.

    1,000,000% agree with this.

Exactly what should happen... but, of course, won't.

I get you. I'm still on to the union, the dept, politicians and principal but I'm going through the motions now. Nobody replying but at same time I keep going because I want the proof that I was ignored for months

I posted similar months ago and was told it wasn't their responsibility, you can't argue with an attitude like that...... we're all in this together ..... yea right.
They've done huge harm by not facilitating students taking the leaving cert and all the empty classrooms and hotel ballrooms that were idle and available around the country.

    Who is 'they', exactly?

Our staff have been in over various different days getting the school ready and will be in again until we get back , most primary schools are the same .
As to a remote learning platform, the DES have had from March to do this, but as ever , dithered and nothing happened.

imo all teachers should have been in school setting up months ago. I accept guidelines hadn't been issued. I accept the failure of the dept.

All this wasted time and ultimately each school seems to be calling their own shots. All of which could have been done months ago. Its a **** show tbh so this idea that now at the final hour schools should close for another 3 weeks isn't really acceptable.

Without DES guidelines, a school couldn’t do anything, school layout wise .
Schools scrambled to get some remote system in place in March in the absence of anything from the DES. Ten weeks in the DES issued vague ideas, but nothing standard or actually useful .
