Feels like being in school when the whole class gets punished because one idiot can’t do what they are told, then rewarding that one idiot with no homework and everyone else gets extra.
I don't know anything about these particular plants, but I know from the HSE briefing that the workers in all these plants have been tested.

We can't test everyone in the LOK counties, so unfortunately if there has been spread we won't know until we start seeing symptoms appear. Hopefully we'll find out in 2 weeks that there hasn't been an upsurge in cases.

Okay but if these things were going to happen on a large scale is it not likely there would be some early signs, particularly for easily measurable phenomena like crime and suicide rates. Here's some evidence to the contrary:

Japan suicides decline as Covid-19 lockdown causes shift in stress factors

Crime figures in Ireland drop massively due to coronavirus lockdown measures

Yes responsible people, who don't want to pass on a potentially fatal disease and taking steps to mitigate the risk. What is the world coming to?

And there's a suggestion lockdown led to a decrease in low-weight premature births.

I spent years being time poor. I spent the lockdown focusing on clean eating and exercising and I had a 2 stone weight loss. When we had the good spring, I spent every evening out walking. I never had that time before look after myself.

The manager from Brady's pub in maynooth was on TV3 last night and he was furious... And I fully understand why.

He has to now closed again and lose more money while the source of the clusters remain open... Making money. You couldn't make it up.

Why were the construction sites in Dublin shut down immediately after a positive test when the risks on such sites of transmission would have been much lower than at a meat factory yet meat factories were allowed remain open for a full week after a positive test where 80 plus were found to be positive which would have left direct contact with thousands at risk.

    What was the time before?

Anecdotally, I'd heard of it taking 24-36 hours until around last week. I was advised my results would be 2-3 days on Wednesday. Just rang there to follow up and was told it might be up to 4 days now.

No reason given but I'd imagine it's down to testing capacity in light of what happened in the meat plants. I was on hold for thirty minutes to HSE Live there now when I could get straight through during the week.

How could this be the case when we were testing double the numbers only a couple of weeks back. Unless there have been cuts in funding

Ridiculous. They are tested under 5000 a day this week, the capacity is meant to be 15000 a day.

If they leave the meat factories dictating their own rules it will only go one way.

It's a good question. The authorities allowed the meat plants to continue on as normal, putting the whole entire localities of laois, offaly, kildare at risk. I'm baffled and it's very sad news for small businesses in them counties who are probably struggling so much right now.

The labs were going hell for leather to get those tests turned around in fairness, that's a pace you can't sustain on a human level. I'd imagine everybody who could go on leave or return to their "regular" roles now has, because the meat plant outbreaks weren't on the radar.

Another thing I'll say is that it's important to remember how many of the cases we're picking up now are mild or asymptomatic. While we may look to be in a similar place on paper, we are quite a bit better off, I doubt I could have gotten tested in the first place back then.

Anyone outside Kildare, Laois and Offaly should expect to be waiting for a test atm tbh

Was that the angry fella on TV last night? He was saying that they saw this coming weeks ago and nothing was done about it and look him now. I felt so sorry for the fella.

Yup, that was him. I have never seen somebody so angry being interviewed... And fully understand it.

Theyre on lockdown, wouldn't it be more important to find and stop it quickly outside these counties?

    Yeah.

I was surprised it took 24 hours between the call and the test for myself, but earlier on I remembered Mr Swab Man mentioned he'd be coming from Kildare to mine, so the timeframes make sense to me now.
