    That's not the point I am addressing. Soon enough you will wake up to the fact of what needs to be done. No other option but follow Sweden approach.The average Joe ain't got the mental strength to wait for a vaccine.
    The governments daily knee jerk reactions and historic death releases are worn thin.
    Sweden,copy their method and fast.

    Cancer, suicide, crime, drugs, depression. These ailments will ruin society faster than this "plauge".

    Unfortunately it is too late now. The Government had to do it at the beginning of May. As of now, they will rather destroy the country, than admit that they were wrong. And brainwashed population is helping them greatly.

    Is the county breakdown based on the likely source of the infection (if known) or the address of the infected person?

    Just came here to vent... I’m so f**king P**sed off that Offaly has extra restrictions but Carroll’s meats are already reopening after a ‘deep clean’..
    Feels like being in school when the whole class gets punished because one idiot can’t do what they are told, then rewarding that one idiot with no homework and everyone else gets extra.

    Are they wearing face masks in these meat processing factories? Working with food, wouldn't they have to wear them?

    Lost all respect for Carroll's a few years back when the pork contamination meant Irish pork was taken off the shelves but all bbq and breaded Carroll's products were ok because the pork was polish but marketed as Irish.

    I read somewhere that it could be either - so a workplace cluster could be counted in the work location, and other figures are based on the home address of the person tested.

    I'll try to find the link

    Edit: it's stated on the data hub that cases can be counted based on work address rather than home address. Click on the "more information" under Geographic Distribution.

    No offence but I'm not sure that's a great idea at this point when we don't know the following.
    • reinfection seasonally ? -> seasonal lockdowns
    • longterm damage -> massive burden and cost on health care system and shorter lives

    I'd actually be open to Sweden approach if they were known and shown to not be an issue. Until then I'd let them figure it out on their population.

    https://www.thelocal.se/20200714/sweden-to-investigate-why-so-many-corona-patients-struggle-with-lasting-symptoms

    You seemed to miss these two paragraphs from the article.

    "Particularly important right now is not to automatically assume that prolonged fever for several months is because of Covid-19. Other serious illnesses may be behind it and it is important that those are not turned away from the healthcare sector," said Lindén.

    He said there are gaps in knowledge when it comes to coronavirus infections where the person is not so ill that they need hospital care, but still remain unwell for several months. The National Board of Health and Welfare looked into this eight to ten weeks ago, reports TT, but then found there was not enough information.

    A lot of the employees that work in these places are immigrants, they are low paid and probably don't have much sick pay and any holiday leave I'm sure they prefer to save to return to visit family. They also tend to live and soacialise in their own groups.

    If they are sick they are reluctant to admit they are sick and ignore advice to stay at home because they cant afford it, its not their country so they dont give a damn about the ramifications of spreading the disease and the effect on the economy.

    Im sure the factory would take precautions to avoid being closed down as there is no profit in that, but they are at the mercy of their employees.

    That doesn't make sense. Wasn't there a social welfare covid sic payment brought about for people who are sick and need to self isolate. It was brought in to help control the spread of the virus and to help people at work and if they feel ill to encourage them to isolate and stay at home. It really doesn't make sense how they wouldn't claim the sick payment.

    They're seemingly ignoring the incubation period of the virus, very possible workers that have tested negative are still incubating the virus. The incubation period is up to 14 days for 97.5% of cases, in 2.5% of people it's longer than that.

    Plant should be shut for at least two weeks.

    With infection flying around meat plants, it wouldn't fill you with much confidence. Are staff coughing and sneezing over their work and the meats they prepare and package for the consumer. Are the places unhygienic?

    I had to replay that because I couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth.

    **** these guys, the lack of disregard is stunning and I hope our health authorities come down on them like a ton of bricks.

    That won’t happen in Ireland.the meat industry for yrs has got away with murder while I as a full time farmer can have unannounced inspections at anytime.one rule for the gob****e rearing the animals from birth and having feck all out of it while the factory owners are on IRELAND’S rich list

    Donnelly waffling now on RTE Radio 1, the meat factories seem to be some superpower immune to the controls on the rest of businesses.

    Better than Tuesday definitely but still a much higher absolute number than in prior weeks.

    31 July approx 110 (203 respondents x 0.55 cases)
    6 Aug approx 260 (376 respondents x 0.69 cases)

    Not out of the woods by any means.

    There were 90 cases on March 13th in Ireland. We were told we could expect a 30% increase in cases every day. on March 17th there was 292 cases.

    Library branches in Laois remaining open to the public on a browsing basis for the public. I thought they'd come under the indoor cultural/recreational heading for closure.

    What makes them so special? I imagine a lot of 'borderline' workplaces and facilities will stay open.

    Easy enough to minimize person-to-person contact (especially if they have self-checkout machines) and run them in an effectively virus-proof way. IMO good that the authorities are taking a commonsense approach to this LOKdown

    I suppose it's true enough, as opposed to say a museum.

    Still if a couple of families with 3/4 children end up browsing in a small children's section it's not ideal. As has been happening in my local library.

    I first started looking for a test on Monday evening, and I'm still waiting on my results, so I'd treat the picture this paints with caution.

    Stephen Donnelly did a twitter q and a last night on the restrictions hes reposted it on his facebook page this morning

    Yesterday, on my Twitter I responded to some very reasonable questions coming to me from people in Kildare, Laois and Offaly.
    I thought it would be useful to post them here as well.
    This is a serious situation with people genuinely worried while others are understandably frustrated and deserving of answers.

    Q. Why is this being done?
    A. To move quickly to protect people's health and people's lives in Kildare, Laois & Offaly. To do the same ultimately for the rest of Ireland. To suppress the spread of the virus in the local communities. To protect the local economies.

    Q. What's the rate of cases in the 3 counties right now?
    A. The measure used by public health is this: Total new cases in the past 2 weeks, per 100k population. As follows:
    Ireland = 11
    Kildare = 76
    Laois = 66
    Offaly = 81
    These numbers will rise tomorrow as new cases are added.

    Q. Have the efforts by local people & communities not worked?
    A. They have. Thanks to everyone's efforts the rate of the virus in the community in Laois, Kildare & Offaly is still low. The majority of these cases come from clusters in a small number of food factories.

    Q. Would it not have been enough to isolate the factories?
    A. No. As with any community, the people working in the community live right across the community. The goal is to suppress transmission in the community, which needs everyone to limit their interactions for two weeks.

    Q. When do the measures come into effect?
    A. The measures are now in legal effect, as the regulations were signed this evening (Friday night). They expire at midnight on Sunday 23rd.

    Q. What are the measures exactly?
    A. The measures include temporary restrictions on travel, gatherings and certain business activity. Here's the official list of measures now in place:
    https://gov.ie/…/7b237-special-advice-for-those-living-in-…/

    Q. Why these particular measures?
    A. The measures come directly from NPHET's advice. They have been designed by the public health experts to quickly target the suppression of the virus in the community while minimising the personal and economic impact.

    Q. Why do this now? Why not wait a few days?
    A. By everyone limiting their social interactions now, there's a much better chance of avoiding much harder measures we all lived through a few months ago. If we wait until there's a lot of community transmission, it'll be too late.

    Q. Are supporting measures also happening?
    A. Yes, including testing for meat factories, the next round of staff testing in nursing homes starting in Laois, Kildare & Offaly, local testing centres being reopened, ambulance service resources are being focused on the 3 counties.

    Q. Whose fault is all of this?
    A. This isn't about fault. Covid-19 is flaring up in cities & regions across Europe & the world, in spite of lots of different measures used by different countries. It could just as easily have been in another part of Ireland, or a different setting.

    Q. Are vulnerable groups being supported?
    A. Yes. Nursing home visitor restrictions are now in place, and on-going supports are deployed for at-risk groups.

    Shin
