local restrictions are a load of bull, athy is 60km from timahoe - navan is closer to timahoe and they are going to enforce a county by county shutdown ? - makes no sense at all. they really haven't a clue and people are better off ignoring them at this stage. local restrictions will work in a populated area such as Barcelona, leicester not in some rural community. Timahoe is in the middle of no where and the factory is shut down. Beggars belief at the idiots running the show.

Do they all live in Timahoe?

Joking aside, I’m in the exact situation, due to have our reception in a Kildare venue at the end of the month. We have already postponed and have significantly reduced our guest list.
I don’t think I can handle much more

You'll know in a few hours time but i hope it works out ok for you.

We (the public) have worked hard to stamp out the virus in the community and do not deserve to be punished because of money grabbing factory owners.
Try to think of it less as "being punished" and more as "not risking sickness and death".

Stupid question on the underlying condition thing. I know some people have underlying conditions and it's not discovered until after death.

How sure are we that the underlying conditions were there before the covid.
Now we know that this thing can cause serious damage.
Obviously I'd hope this was controlled for in our reporting.

There's a big clue in the word 'chronic'.

do they all live in Kildare, laois ,offaly ?? timahoe is ten minutes from Dublin and meath so probability is a lot of them live there also... the point is local lockdowns in Ireland makes no sense whatsoeever -

Would it make it easier for you if they included meath?

The point is to ensure that those living within virus hotspots limit their movements to avoid spreading it elsewhere. It's exactly the same logic as shutting down air travel, applied at a smaller scale.

This is why Zara needs to be given a break - while most of us only think about weddings once in our lives, if at all, it's a very important thing for people in the middle of preparations, and I'm sure most of them are very happy for Zara to be asking these questions.

I agree it’s not possible to do this unless it is done on a town by town basis which again is quite difficult to do . How are schools going to open up in September with rising cases just a few weeks before they are due to open

outside of the hotspots? No chance

Economy needs the boost from us holidaying in the country. No extra risk in people outside of the hotspots

Judging by the amount of camper vans on the roads and people on staycations at the moment, that would go down well.

On another point, where have all the camper vans come from? Are these ones people Usually use to travel to Europe because I have never seen a fraction of the numbers that are now here everyday. All Irish reg too

Is there a presser today? I know they changed to Mondays and Thursdays so possibly not but with the ton plus bound to be broken today perhaps there is?
Might be a government type standup one with Glynn on the podium, but no DoH one.

Who knows but i wouldn't be surprised to see Gardai involved. We currently have hundreds of thousands of people staycation though so it's going to be difficult to close down motorways etc..

Had to travel down to Wexford for work during the week. Lots and lots of UK reg cars and camper vans coming up from Rosslare so not just Irish people on holidays.

Does anyone know if the local lockdown in Leicester a couple of weeks ago succeeded in reducing the infection rate there?

Ye, i think that may well be the case. Government under real pressure now with their priority getting schools back open in three weeks

Yes it’s not possible. I suspect people in towns with high cases will be encouraged not to leave, if Kildare as a county was put on restrictions it would be too difficult to police, a large portion of it is greater Dublin

I haven't heard of the infection rate going up but I don't know being honest.

I'd imagine they will possibly close businesses in these areas too - pubs, restaurants, barbers - all non-essential activities basically.

I was stopped on 8 occasions during last lockdown by guards, gave the same answer and waved on. Waste of time and resource

Need to go down the fine route if you are utilising the guards. Example, if you do not have documentation showing you are a frontline worker then a fixed notice fine is issued

athy is over 60k away from timahoe and is not a virus hotspot as numerous other towns in Kildare/laois/offaly arent . shutting down air travel makes sense - this government who seem to copy and paste what other jurisdictions do are trying to apply local lockdowns used in urban areaas abroad like Manchester, Leicester etc to a rural area where the chances are more people from the factory are living in lucan urban area than anywhere else . We will see what they say but I don't hold out hope for common sense. a county by county lockdown makes no sense, has to be down on a town/km basis
