Phew! That's good to know. So you're saying that there's no long lasting damage to those that recover from this?

Answer me this - do you think having a piece of cloth over your mouth & nose prevents more, less or indifferent the amount of droplets that are released into a room if someone talks, coughs or sneezes?

A piece of cloth, mask, muzzle or whatever you want to call it is ineffective for several reasons part of which is how they are used but the chances of contracting the virus are extremely low and the chances of death are even lower.

Yesterday it was five deaths, four of which related to April and June. So we had one person who died from Covid and the whole country has been whopped into a frenzy with mandatory face masks, which is effectively a form of compelled speech, yet there is no mention of what the normal mortality rates are, no mention of recovery rates and no mention of ICU admissions yet we have people who cannot wait to show their compliance to wear a muzzle and show how they will openly and willfully snitch on fellow citizens who have no option to debate or argue against these decrees being imposed on them all because 1 person per day has died?

Maybe I'm wrong here and perhaps I've gone overboard but, with what I'm reading on the last few pages, with all the quotes from Lynn, Martin etc but, it strikes a question in me...

Have we(Government) made a balls of this, to the point it doesn't make Boris look as foolish?

Our government are on holiday in the middle of the biggest crisis we have faced in a generation. We have a huge issue with a second wave incoming as schools open up and that's before we even mention Brexit. They wasted months doing all they could to keep SF out of power whilst the dogs on the street knew they'd team up FF and the Greens eventually.

These are the same twits who told us masks are useless, the Italian rugby match fans are sound and there was no harm in a few lads going to Cheltenham. Oh and nursing homes be grand.

The Dail is on holiday, the government keeps working. We only need the Taoiseach and about 3 ministers to keep it all ticking over at present!

And that's out of our 26k cases. But it's possible that we have 200k cases that were asymptomatic and never tested as well no? Or more.. Who knows without mass testing of all citizens

Ye id agree somewhat. I think this has been in the country since late last year and some thought it was a flu or cold while others where showing no symptoms. Also i think we can assume if the positive figures from testing are 100 then its probably closer to 500 untested.

Yep the election was Feb 8th and Martin did not become Taoiseach until June 27th. God only knows what took them so long - it certainly wasn't detailed planning because their first 3-4 weeks were an absolute shambles of confusion and crisis. And now they are on their well earned holidays/recess until 15th September. Early September will be a crucial time because of schools/colleges/creches reopening - it looks like they want to avoid all that and the difficult questions.

I'm in North Kildare and to lock us down because of the actions of greedy factory owners who cram in workers cheek by jowl against all public health advice would drive me crazy!
There is very little community transmission and there will be uproar if they do try and pull this stunt on us.

Close all the meat processing factories now and sort them out properly before reopening. We (the public) have worked hard to stamp out the virus in the community and do not deserve to be punished because of money grabbing factory owners.

I wonder will weddings be cancelled in Kildare, Laois & Offaly?

The point is they don’t want community transmission to happen. Theres no other alternative than restrictions rn whether ye like it or not.

Unfortunately the people working in the meat factories don't live in the meat factories, they live shop and socialise in the same places as you and I

I fully agree that there should be uproar but it shouldn't be directed at the Government, NPHET or anyone having to enforce lockdown. It should be directed at the factory owners and management who didn't implement effective controls and against people who aren't taking public health advice seriously enough

Positive correlation between air travel and outbreak in US in early stage epidemic.

    https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.07.06.20140285v1.full.pdf+html
As mentioned before, one possible major driver of the diffusion pattern is air traffic.
We compare the ordering of states according to. their air travel volume to their epidemic order as previously defined (Fig. 4C).
We consider both national and international traffic, and find a positive correlation (τ = 0.65 with p < 0.001)
between the epidemic ordering derived from surveillance data and air traffic,
suggesting the passenger volume of both international and national traffic are key factors driving the early phases of outbreak across the country

The correlation between the air travel ordering and the simulations is high
(τ = 0.83, p < 0.001) as actual airline data are used in the model to simulate the mobility of individuals (see SM)

The results also indicate that the source of introduction of SARS-CoV-2 infections into the US changed substantially and rapidly through time.
While early importations were from international sources,
most introductions occurred during February and March 2020.

Our results indicate that many states were seeded from domestic sources
rather than international. The presented results could be of potential interest in combination
with sequencing data of SARSCoV-2 genomes in order to reconstruct in greater
detail the early epidemic history of the US
    COVID-19 epidemic

The government knew it was happening and they did nothing. Of course it should be directed at government.

I'd have all you Kildare/Offaly folks in work camps making facemasks 16 hours a day to teach ye a lesson.

On 2nd thoughts ;) ....yeah the meat/food plants are a law unto themselves and are often run/owned by complete cowboys. Even before Covid they should have been investigated for dodgy work practices.

    Today's random statistic:

Luxembourg have done 623,994 Covid-19 tests. The country's population is 626,962, so their tests per million population is 995,282.

I'd say they have a pretty good picture of their infection rates.

I don’t know much about them but they sound like a very challenging place to work. I wonder why they haven’t been focused on until now. If restrictions are imposed again people won’t stick to them

Stupid question on the underlying condition thing. I know some people have underlying conditions and it's not discovered until after death.

How sure are we that the underlying conditions were there before the covid.
Now we know that this thing can cause serious damage.
Obviously I'd hope this was controlled for in our reporting.

local restrictions are a load of bull, athy is 60km from timahoe - navan is closer to timahoe and they are going to enforce a county by county shutdown ? - makes no sense at all. they really haven't a clue and people are better off ignoring them at this stage. local restrictions will work in a populated area such as Barcelona, leicester not in some rural community. Timahoe is in the middle of no where and the factory is shut down. Beggars belief at the idiots running the show.

Joking aside, I’m in the exact situation, due to have our reception in a Kildare venue at the end of the month. We have already postponed and have significantly reduced our guest list.
I don’t think I can handle much more
