They've large instagram and youtube followings, mostly associated with makeup/fashion

A lot of those people following would be teens and young people... but hey... influence and show off away.

I suppose instagram pictures they see as essential :P I agree travel incoming from covid hot spots needs forced quarantine and testing or complete banning

Well I guess if hits to insta etc generates income, it could potentially be seen as essential.

Only 2 out 3 wrong so . Reading that one poster would happily smear his bits with honey and engage a bear. Dispelled any notion I had he was female. Well I think it was honey and a bear.

It seems alot of teens, pre teens and young adults are influenced by Tik Tok now at least this is what I hear from my nieces which btw my mother thought it was a chewing gum :D)

I find them annoying and shallow but clearly are not idiots. Has to be a tough gig though.

Can you not still run around the track without a crowd?

Yes of course. These events will have no spectators. But our sport has a lot of competitors, so 500 limit is needed for National Championships to be viable, even behind closed doors.

I remember "major incidents" being declared there in recent years over flu outbreaks and other illnesses which can put a strain on hospitals such as norovirus even. Its normal but obviously sky news going for the maximum fear angle by comparing it to disasters like floods and terror attacks

    For example

I heard today that the government will introduce random testing at the airports?

What the fcuk is that all about? Will incoming travellers have to pay for the tests or will it be the government picking up the tab for the tests? Would that be the reason why they choose random testing instead of testing for all travellers? How are they going to work that? Will there be fast results within a few hours? What do they plan to do if there's any positive results? Tell people to go on their way and self isolate at their accommodation? What if their accommodation is at a hotel? They go and stay at a hotel and risk infecting the staff there. Or will testing turnaround be 24 hours +, they get tested and they go on their way, if positive they will be notified.

It appears as if its just some window dressing from our government. Doing something just to be seen to do something. Random testing at airports also appears to be like an idol threat to nearly deter people from coming or something.

What's weird is, If you go to sky news site, CNN, Fox news, none actually tell you daily cases. It's just ignored in some media, meanwhile both rte and breakingnews always feature the daily figures, even when we had low daily cases. Media here really hammer home covid is still around and wash hands, wear mask etc....

The Cabinet is expected to ease Covid-19 restrictions on outdoor gatherings to allow up to 500 people at events.
The move would be good news for GAA and League of Ireland fans who have been starved of going to live sports for the past few months.

Re Levitt: It’s quite hard to understand his position on the restrictions. I think he doesn’t agree with lockdowns but does with certain measures... as I said, I find it hard to get the info. After we were discussing him earlier today I did a bit of trawling on Twitter and a few interesting things popped out:-
    - he believes countries already hit hard enough won’t get a second wave but those that contained the virus very well at the start are at risk now. References Sweden.
    - when this is “over” is not based on the virus being gone, but rather excess deaths. Apparently Europe is there?? Deaths will still be attributed to covid 19
But we’ll have no more excess deaths.
    - USA will reach 170,000 deaths in a couple of weeks: that’s his predictions for there but I assume that means excess deaths again
    - seems to believe in the T Cell / natural immunity research which is why he believes it won’t continue to spread beyond 20-% Of the population
    - Brazil estimates 5mil cases and 120k deaths
    - 500 deaths per million i think is where he believes things taper off

I do welcome testing all incoming at airports at the traveller's own expense if quarantine is needed if positive, afaik testing is free

It seems that travel talk is aimed more at Irish travelling abroad that travellers incoming for fear of upset, yet Trump has stopped Irish holidayers but we are welcoming Yanks (I just use USA as an example)

Wheel has come off the hamster big time

Don't Boards have a full time Tech guy and a weekend/Bank Holiday weekend sub?

I'd have thought a site with this much traffic would

It's not feasible to test every single passenger arriving into Ireland. We simply don't have the capacity. We can't ban all flights either as we rely on planes to transport goods and freight (cargo planes are all booked up). We can't just leave Irish passport holders stranded abroad. We can't prevent people arriving into Belfast and crossing the border either. So the argument about shutting down airports/ports, I have never heard of a solution to it. I wish it was that easy, but it's not.

So much for compulsory mask on public transport.last Friday got the 10:50 commuter Dundalk to Dublin Connolly. At Dundalk a few tried to board without masks but were ‘reminded’ by staff it was compulsory. About 30 on the train. Another 30 in drogheda though and as the platform was ‘away’ from me couldn’t be sure. Laytown about 50 more ( not exaggerating- mostly teenagers) about 90% with masks. Balbriggan about 100 more and much less face masks. Skerries another 50 and 80% masks. Rush -50 and about 80%. Donabate another 50 or so and the train full. Malahide - as many left as got on but again 80- 90 % wore masks.. Mostly teenagers but not all I should say.

Luas at Connolly 100% masks but at Abbey Street ( it was lashing) no more than 80% masks. As the tram was full I couldn’t see after that but you get the gist.

I wonder were the sales all that great.

It's an old face saving excuse that gets rolled out: "due to circumstances beyond our control."
