I suppose being the 5th owner on a 14 year old car is reasonable.

Looks lovely and a lot more expensive.

    Economical?

Economical? Mpg economical enough. 1.8 petrol only.

Suspension parts per mile? Not so.

    All electric works. That's a bonus :)

Nice looking Camry automatic with NCT til March 2021 and a bit of tax for €2000.

Not sure if they sell for this kind of money, but any that appear on Donedeal seem to be priced high. Wouldn’t mind trying one at some stage

I think some of the exporters (one in particular in the Dublin area) give up on €1000 for them and that has put a floor in the market.

People often talk about exporters on this thread. What countries would they be exporting to? And is it always a particular type of car for export, just curious to know?

From my own experience of dealing with an exporter years ago he was shipping out to Nigeria on a regular basis. At the time he was buying up every Hiace he could get his hands on, runners and non runners. He was approaching owners in car parks and anywhere else he saw them, looking to buy.

I had a workhorse that owed me nothing and was an embarrassment for the young lad anytime I had to pick him up so I decided to get rid of it and rang your man. I told him she was mechanically sound with a new battery and 4 new tyres so I'd be looking for a few bob over his normal rate. He told me put 4 bald tyres on it and take out the battery and he'd pay me 800 euro the next day.

He was as good as his word and turned up with the cash, his cousin and a battery to drive her back to base "camp". I asked him what was her destiny and he told me she would be filled with spare engines and other parts and the back and sliding doors would be welded shut for the journey to Nigeria where she would more than likely put a half a million more miles up as they love them over there and can't get enough of them, running or not.

That camry. Mat on the dash never seen one of those before.

Was in Taiwan last year and you see that everywhere, some of them are really shaggy looking carpet like mats. You see it an odd time too in Thailand.

Toyotas mainly for cars. Especially pre d4d and pre vvti ones but they've now started taking the d4d mk1 avensis as it's getting harder to find older ones.

For a 2.0td avensis anything from €450 to €650+ has been the range of prices I've heard. Myself and my brother had a very rough one but mechanically sound that we exported and got €550 for it kinda regretted it since as they're only getting scarcer.

Low prices are generally paid for petrols however toyota picnics are in big demand and I believe its an eastern european fella that gives nearly €1000 for that generation camry up around Dublin he used to have ads on donedeal.

There were another crowd who wanted Lexus rx300's too.

Basically as a rule of thumb anything jap and diesel from the 90's is in demand whether that be cars vans or 4x4's certain petrol ones too.

    Nice car.
My own experience with the car
I bought the 2003 manual transmission version in 2015 for 650 euro.
    Engine mount need replacing
    alternator failed
ac module I knew that had failed when I bought it
    water pump failed
tiime belt changed as no date on the time belt to say when it was last changed.
I had a lot of issues with battery drain.
after a lot of checking and trips to mechanic it was a boot lid not closing property turning on boot light.
alarm failed for to water and mud getting in to alarm module
Heavy on petrol consumption 33mpg on a good day.
Head light were taking in water and needed to be removed and resealed.
    Steer is heavy.

That said it had the most comfortable seats in any car I have driven.
I liked the 5 cylinder Volvo 2.0 turbo charged engine. 180bhp

I stoped driving the car mostly because I needed a car to put a disabled seat in and the Volvos S60 is not a good car for disabled swivel seat.

    '08 Lancer 1.5 petrol
    NCT August '21
    228k Kms

    Asking €2,150

I had the previous model (mine was '05), found it a very reliable albeit boring car.
Any thoughts on this 1.5 petrol engine and these cars in general.

    Looks very clean indeed.

Never heard anything bad about them, but it could be because they aren't very popular... This model was on sale until 2015 which shows how outdated Mitsubishi is now on their line up these days.

This one looks respectable enough for 08.

Price reflects the condition. Direct competitor would be Mazda3/Focus/s40 and haven't seen one as clean as that Lancer lately.

A family of 4 I know, recently lost everything including car and house in Dublin 4. They used to drive a 192 Mercedes GLE.

They have now gathered/been given 500 euro for a family car with tax and nct.

Would this Honda Stream any good for them? Any other suggestions?

What's the relevance of their previous address and car they drove?

Just a bit of background to what kind of luxuries they're used to. Also to state we're all just one of two pay cheques away from poverty!

How is the Honda Stream linked?

Probably an ok, reliable car. Looks like the price has dropped another bit to €400.

Looks like the passenger front wing is damaged, not that you can be too fussy at that price point. It's also a Japanese used import so make sure they can get it insured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,679 ✭✭✭✭wonski

Insurance is the main thing however if they just switch policy then it will probably be OK.

If it is a new private policy then anything over 15 years old could be tricky.

I don't think you can be fussy at that price point, but 500 is a challenge to find something anyway with nct and not damaged, brogen or rough. Very rough.

Matters not a jot, we're all the same.

I like the look of this car and advert. Comes across genuine. Car was taxed for a full year last October too.

Decent runabout assuming insurance is possible.

Some exotic market like India? Or in Europe?

    Dacia looks more modern :)
