Its simple statistics though, if one group of people have 1 in a 100 chance of dying from it and the other group 1 in 5, of course its better news the 1 in a 100 group get the majority of the cases. How can you even question this.

If your "statistics", especially in light of what we know about C-19, are based on recovery and death only, then they are of no use at all.

Personally I'd choose my cousin, he's from Mayo
There's circumstances such as this which are allowed

You're using one person to say that it'll be the same for everyone else. I know a fella in his 50s who has had it and he was back running the roads within a week. It can go both ways.
I am not...I just gave one personal example of a young healthy person who had a tough time with it, your the one saying it is pretty much harmless to young people not me. I also said you don't know if there is any long term impact on people down the line...but you choose to ignore that part of my response.

Of course but we don't live in an ideal world :D

Ah, but we must try our best.

That fact literally proves that nobody on here can preach about long-term side effects when they don't even exist as of now, in terms of studies.

You're asking ridiculous questions, and making up highly unlikely scenarios, if you don't mind me saying. I don't deal in whatabout-ery.

Not stupid questions, they are valid questions because you seem to think you know more about this virus and how it affects people than anyone else.

Those damn curtain twitchers....trying to save lives and that. Still, a good way of shutting concerned people down - just brand anyone not positive enough as a curtain twitcher, a nervous wreck, a saddo...the list goes on.

What statistics do you want to use that places a person in their 20s in the same risk category as someone in their 80s.

I seem to know more? I gave you the figures, you chose to ignore them, and you're claiming that it has long-term effects. Show me a study over a long period of time that shows these effects and I'll read it.

And if everyone still catches it after it just means they weren't drinking enough vodka (the west will never hear of any failures by Russia)

Indeed. The default response it seems.

No results yet as its only started, but you have to ask why would they do if they are sure there was none

Now show me proof that your cousin wont die if he got infected and you show me a long term study that shows there are no long term side effects.

It's not a fact.....but the indications are that some people might have more long term effects.
For example SARS and MERS left about a 3rd of survivors with long term lung damage, so not outrageous to say COVID-19 could be similar.

    https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/07/brain-fog-heart-damage-covid-19-s-lingering-problems-alarm-scientists

    https://www.advisory.com/daily-briefing/2020/06/02/covid-health-effects

The above aren't exactly promising when it comes to some people not having long term side effects.

Some posters here are giving percentages of death only which is laughable. Statistics should contain much more such as the number of close contacts infected, ICU figures, long term illness from the virus and the list goes on.

The advice from NPHET and WHO is directed to all and not to one age group or another.

We are all going to die, some will have lived a full life, some won't, I am not talking about age, have a good weekend, get out and make the most of life

And you cannot preach about no long side effects when there is no long term studies published.

To put it bluntly then who would you rather sacrifice, your cousin or your grandmother, because you don't know if either have a 100% chance of surving the virus if they got it.

I know people will disagree with me, but her message "Stay at Home" seems a bit dated. People are moving on, they have to.

I agree entirely, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take sensible precautions when you are out and about, and if going somewhere pick a venue that does the same.
I have two places booked for lunch and dinner tomorrow and really looking forward to it.
I have a dog so out of the house a good bit whether I like it or not!

Wow i did not expect this thread to be so filled with hate.

I think a lot of you need to take a step back from fighting with each other and just calm down. It's typical deflection behaviour. You're clearly afraid and trying to apportion blame or rationalise it by saying that everyone else is overreacting.

There's a reason entire countries have ground to a halt. Alright, the spread is predominantly among younger people so the hospitalisations and deaths are down. But it's a new virus and this is a situation that has never happened before in our lifetimes.

The completely spurious arguments about who you'd rather have dying of the virus are absolutely bizzare. Let's just try our best to make sure nobody gets sick and call out anyone who seems to be acting without due consideration for the circumstances. I get the impression that if we were back at 300 cases per day, some posters here would still be acting the bollocks and telling people they're "lockdown merchants" and the like.

This is honestly one of the most bewildering, lawless Covid message boards I've read anywhere on the internet. I feel sorry for anyone actually looking for useful information or trying to post something they've discovered with the amount of bullying and attack dogs here.

Since when does wanting to visit a pub = dependance on alcohol? What a backwards way of thinking. I’m in my early 20s and love visiting pubs for the atmosphere.

I'm totally shocked at this - that you Citizen are in your early 20s  With your (extremely valuable) knowledge and brilliance at figures, I would have placed you in your early 50s :)

How is posting on an internet forum saving lives? You're not on Baywatch jumping into the ocean lad.

I don't come here often now because there are a number of posters that seem to have just taken over and only their views are allowed and no one is allowed to question them. A lot of the posters from the start have left because of this.

There are some nuggets of useful information posted here. Unfortunately you do have to trawl through a lot of dross to unearth them.

Yeah I suppose. There just seems to be a group of people who think posting on an internet forum is the equivalent of fighting off the Nazis at Stalingrad or something.

The bitterest battles are those with the lowest stakes.
