Just on a side note, Germany had similar (if bigger) problems with meat factories and abattoirs as well.

In consequence Germany now has legislated that only permanent workers may work in meat factories...no more sub-contractor shenannigans.

We should push for the same thing here.
Those Keelings fruit pickers breaking lockdown rules was wrong too.
We are either serious about stopping this virus or we are not. Simples.

Will there be any social distancing happening in schools?

Maybe school can be 1 day a week. Maybe take a class of 30 pupils in primary school as an example, maybe they can go by the role book and have the first 6 students in on Monday, and 6 in on Tuesday and 6 in on Wednesday and so on. Maybe a camera can be put into classrooms pointing at the teachers desk and blackboard and many lessons can be online too for the rest of students at home.

Thankfully neither you or anyone with your mindset is drafting the guidelines.

Germany pushed and pushed and pushed for travel right from the outset of this pandemic. They were forcing their way into Spain when we and everyone else were at the top of a curve demanding access to their holiday homes. They were forced home. Angela Merkal demanded countries opened up their borders months ago, And now we see a huge surge in cases in Spain and Germany but who will loose out there. Ireland have just allowed travel from Europe and USA . But, the difference is Germany has the money to deal with the surge and the health care system to proetct. We dont.

CMO just said the complete opposite regarding schools.

He literally just said watch the next few days and he would hope tomorrow and Saturday show reduced numbers back in line with the average up to today.

Its quite obvious they've been tracing and testing these clusters for at least a week now.
He said they're waiting for guidance from the ECDC, who will require that social distancing take place (not planned for in current model) and we will have to either cut class sizes or install plastic screens around desks, requiring staff to wear masks. If they're looking to schools around the world that have opened, they'll see that they're absolute hotbeds for outbreaks to occur and any advice they give will be to reduce risks of transmission. The current plans are not adequate to reduce the risk of transmission and so will have to be comprehensively reviewed. I know this for a fact because I'm from the future. Jk, not from the future, I'm clearly from the past but have an actual functioning brain and can see from the experience in other countries what is required.

    85 cases. FFS
What are you doing lads? We need to go back to stage one and enforce quarantine at the airports.
Every weekend there was a street party in Ringsend for months. Put a stop to similar parties. Close pubs and cafe's too.

House parties left, right and centre in a massive issue. People with zero sense of social responsibility.

Don't mind what the government is saying we are headed back to a lockdown sooner rather than later.

How many cases have there been in Ringsend? Because street parties are not the bus seat issue we have. It’s a meat factory that have the numbers high today.

If you were to stay in and cook might as well do it at home i guess

Why not a bottle of wine and a takeaway. She could only have had 2 hours in a pub anyway. If she is afraid of walking on the beach and getting it then she should lock herself up now for the next 2 years.

Our government wouldn’t dare do anything to affect the profitability of The meat industry. That would only make one person angry.

Don't you know? Meat factories are the go to party venues. Not a single reference was made to parties but that hasn't stopped more people projecting their personal bugbears onto the 85 cases.

You can have a wedding, but it has to be under 50 people - there is give and take in that.

Perfect excuse to trim the nonsense of who you have to invite to silly number weddings.

Should be looked at as a positive IMO.

Yes I would take that as a positive outcome of Covid. Forever and a day! Absolutely despise big Mcweddings and they'd been back with a gusto of late.
Cousin was going to have 300 plus at one in June. Huge loss for hotels and the weddign industry. It must be absolutely massive as they're up there with houses and cars as sheer scale of expense.

You don't get it do you?
All it takes is for example one meat factory worker from Kildare to join the Ringsend party or any street party and wooosh, half of the community have it.

He said absolutely nothing of the sort regarding current plans not being adequate, cutting class sizes or installing screens around desks, that may well be your opinion but Dr Glynn said nothing of the sort. He said there is no 0 risk, did he expect cases in schools? Yes quite possibly.

The ECDC report due out soon is with regards to transmission of the virus from children not that the ECDC is giving them guidance on how to reopen schools.

He said in schools the main measures in school were distancing and hand washing, the later being particularly important in schools.

Feel free to rewatch the press conference, its disuccsed from 15 minutes in, its nothing like you've portrayed above

Sorry to rain on your parade but there's absolutely no way this is happening again- for one simple reason that I'm going to highlight for you- we cannot afford to...
They'd be expected to pay out the €350 per week crack indefinitely which we cannot afford (see desperation to reduce the figures still on it already).
Clusters, testing and local measures are where it's at. Not lazy idiots sitting at home watching Netflix #stayingsafe

Having worked at my first wedding since March at the weekend I completely agree. Less than 50 people. Much more intimate and personal. Even the couple said they wouldn't change a thing. Unfortunately (for me anyway) not a lot of couples see the appeal.

That might have to re-think their "dream day". That restriction is not going to change for a while I'd think. 50 is a nice intimate figure and for most of us would cover immediate family. Everyone else is fckin delighted not to be forced into going.

Been reading a lot into the department of education's plan for re-opening schools and a lot of it is mumbo-jumbo. I believe they're going to open on time but I'm not sure if it's going to work.

It's a disgrace to be honest that some people refuse to appreciate the work that is going on behind the scenes to handle these outbreaks. You're dead right that we should be thankful.

we've done great work genuinely. but there is an uptick and a cautious approach is needed. mocking and trolling people who are mostly worried about older or at risk relatives is the real disgrace. those people should be ashamed of themselves.

Look no point interrogating me on this. She is a friend of my wife's. She has been going there for years and she said what she said.
I have close friends who went and posted pics on Facebook. It seems people treated it as if because it was a stay cation all rules went out the window. Just saying I'm not surprised spike in limerick / clare numbers.

No one is trolling them. If you feel that way then you have to take personal responsibility and not put them at risk. That means you too avoiding contact with people etc.

It seems to be based on a disease that lives on surfaces rather than an airborne infection.

And very much leaves the onus on individual schools to sort things out aswell, which is fine in a way, as all schools are different, but some principals will interpret things differently to others, which will lead to problems.

Nope said they didn't have that information but as of yestersday it was reported it had identified over 100 close contacts of confirmed cases
