Bullying disabled people, well done you.

Differently abled people usually have masked minders with them. That guy was on his own.

If our economy hadn't been shot to bits thanks to all this maybe we could appoint a dedicated Covid Police Force with Paddygreen leading it :D

Not everyone who can't wear a mask needs a minder. I know a few who have quite severe asthma & find it difficult to wear anything covering their face. In the UK where masks are mandatory there are exemptions for those with medical reasons why they can't wear masks. You don't know why someone isn't wear a mask so rather than having a go, how about you mind your own business and just keep your distance?

Was in a SuperValu store yesterday. Most customers were not wearing masks from the ages of mid 20's to 70's.
So, are they mandatory or not ?

Also yesterday saw a Bus Eireann driver not wearing a mask. Thought it was mandatory on public transport.

    I'm pretty sure that's a spoof account

How do you define severe asthma? If they're that fragile, they shouldn't be going near a shop at all. Especially as there are a lot of people who don't give a **** and behave like normal in there .

There should be a way to easily distinguish them then. An armband , pulsating led badge, lanyard with some indication on it or something. Your average Deco in a puffy jacket usually isn’t differently abled and that’s exactly the type of character that was hot stepping like an overgrown menacing pidgeon behind me the other day on my way home from Spar.

Very much the exception from what I can see. Anywhere I’ve been in shops etc mask wearing is easily 90% plus.

That's exactly why shops should be strongly encouraged to accommodate those unable or unwilling to wear masks by serving them curbside.

If you want to be indoors with others, wear the mask. I've said it before and I'll say it again, my fiance has POTS and chronic asthma, we live in South Carolina where the summer highs are in excess of 30 celsius with high humidity. We still wear the masks. I won't pretend the masks are an absolute delight to wear, but we still wear them. Outdoors we keep 10 ft or greater away from others so we can breathe in this stifling heat without the masks. Indoors (or in the Irish weather, which by heat and humidity is virtually the same or colder) it's quite tolerable.

People shouldn't play these games with masks like they play with 'service dogs,' in both cases just put the mask on inside and near people and leave your pet at home, it's unfair to people who have the most dire and qualified needs for those exceptions to make light of or abuse those exceptions as convenient loopholes. Not saying you do, or anyone you are associated with does, but generally speaking we see a lot of that around, just assholes who want to be belligerent, just to make a political statement etc. or bring in their 'emotional support rotweiller' to **** on the shop floor that only forces shops to more scrutinizing against the blind etc. - the same type of folks applied to anti-masking ruin mask exemptions for the truly needy, driving more and more shops to (rightly) refuse entry to any and all non-mask wearers in deference to serving them outside.

As in if she has an asthma attack, she often ends up in hospital despite having inhalers. Even having a scarf in front of her face can cause a problem due to the fibres being inhaled. And she hasn't been going out much at all but does have to at some times.

Actually in the UK you can get a lanyard from your GP that says you're exempted from wearing a mask due to medical reasons.

I honestly hate wearing the mask. I find the fabric ones a little easier but it's still not fun. I still wear them all the time in any shop I'm in, when I'm collecting my child from creche and any other occasion where I can't properly social distance.

What I'm trying to put out there is that there are some people who should be exempted from wearing masks based on medical reasons and that those people should not be shamed in public because they aren't wearing one. You don't know anyone's history or medical problems so mask-shaming should not be a thing. Shops are stretched enough as it is without getting them to provide additional services. A lot of them are doing click and collect already but they shouldn't be forced to provide curbside shopping too.

That's a matter of their policy decisions and jurisdictional regulations. More and more shops may find its too confusing and harrowing to differentiate between anti-maskers and those with breathing difficulties - the very people that are most at-risk if they become infected. Between concerned customers like me who would have questions if a shop didn't appear to enforce its own mask policy with some customers, and people trying to argue "I have a medical condition but I don't have to tell you what it is or show any evidence" are also a headache for businesses. So, businesses who are limited on resources will end up opting for zero-tolerance policies and having those customers served outside..

Having medical lanyards that are regulated seem like a good idea but it can end up being confusing if its not done well... look at whats happened in the US with people and these utterly bogus exemption cards, both for medical reasons and for 'constitutional' reasons. https://www.nbcboston.com/investigations/consumer/nbc-boston-responds/justice-department-issues-warning-about-fake-face-mask-exemption-cards/2158414/. As a result you have asshats claiming "PTSD" as a reason for not wearing a mask (you know because of that traumatic experience you had on the battlefield where the terrorists made IEDs out of facemasks; or 'my father was murdered by a facemask' - or something. Never prior to 2020 have I ever heard of PTSD affecting someones ability to wear a facemask)

    fake+mask+exempt+card.jpg
The [Americans with Disabilities Act] does not provide a blanket exemption to people with disabilities from complying with legitimate safety requirements necessary for safe operations.

Supermarkets, garages, newsagents, chippers, Chinese, hardware stores, pharmacies, off licenses.

Pharmacies, all sorts of food shops and delies, fuels, medical centre. There was a lot open during lockdown, basically everything essential.

The maskzis would have us believe that there was hardly anything open, everyone was 2m apart always, no one mixed whatsoever. The reality is quite different. Look back on any thread from the height of the virus and it’s full of whingers about overcrowded shops, lack of social distancing etc. Like the queue to Beschoffs in Howth. But it’s the masks that are saving us nowadays.

Anyone know what the delays are in getting the mask wearing legalised .. surely with today’s numbers and the number of clusters around the country it’s now gone beyond asking nicely to put on masks

Masks didn't do anything in March/April to get the numbers down. They won't now.

It's one day's figures. Cases, not deaths. No need to be panicing. If the numbers stay at that level or increase over the rest of the week then maybe think about it

Tired of reading this bs over and over again. You have nothing to say. Asymptomatic spread..yes it's just cases, till it's start hitting older people etc. We were there already and how did that go. Yet you still need to post nonsense like this. At this stage it's pathetic. Just like the other muppet calling people maskzis. Maybe you should setup some fanclub for yourselves or something..

How many people on Boards have a mask and if so are you wearing them for essential trips? And this late in the day where can you get one that is going to be half decent and not from a suspect seller who could have done anything to it?

I have two.One home mad and one bought. Both are washable, and I wear them in every shop I enter.I wish all people would wear masks n enclosed places. This virus is not gone and wearing masks is a vital process in controling the virus that is still all around us.Wear a mask .I thought it was compulsory for masks to be worn in shops now.

Can't be enforced. So everyone does whatever they want. Or coming here and saying that anyone with mask is panicking or hysterical..you name it.

Or maybe rather than immediately panicking over a single day's figures, it might be better to see how things look over a week or fortnight.

As for masks. The curve was flattened or whatever cliche you prefer without them and the numbers have remained steadily low for the last month - including before the kneejerk reaction of a flailing new government to make them mandatory in limited situations

I'm tired of reading the fear mongering and personal attacks from people who can't see the wood from the trees. Mask up has become the new stay home and it's just as unnecessary for the majority of people.

The worst part of all this is how people like yourself seem to be unable to recognise this as a good thing.

Who is panicking? After they released one day figures, you jumped in and said no need to panick. Mask and new stay home?? Seriously? I'm moving pretty freely around, no bother. Masks, hygiene, social distancing etc., I call it precautions, lowering the risks or whatever you want to name it. Kind of tired of suggestions that anyone who prefer to stay careful, cautious, while living nearly normal, is being called panicking hysterical etc. Doesn't make sense to me. People who suggesting the virus is nothing are the reason why that f.. thing keeps reaching back in higher numbers, simple. I can meet all them heroes every single day, because of the work. Skipping hand sanitizing, no masks, no SD.. Fear mongering my ass, if you wanna be another selfish tool, be my guest, there's nothing I can do about it, apart from hoping you living far far away from me. Anyway have a good and hopefully healthy life.
