Data over the last week to 10 days and contact tracing works!

Yup they've fully tracked and tested these clusters before reporting them.

Its a decent way to do it to be fair, get on top of the outbreaks, trace them fully and get a full picture of what your dealing with

While I think it's not as scary when you look past the initial number, it seems that some posters here will bend over backwards to deny any cause for concern whatsoever.

    85 new cases.

    That is sobering.

    You can say that again...

He literally just spent the last 5 minutes saying no need for a knee-jerk reaction, and saying that this is a good thing that they've been picked up, and contact tracing is working fully.

I've no issue with asylum seekers working in normal times but these aren't normal times.

Yes in pandemics, asylum seekers don't become people anymore, they are in-fact subhuman virus transmitting ghouls.

Terrible journalism here - trying to put words in their mouth instead of asking direct questions. Really poor, sad to see the state of journalism in the modern world.

R numbers and clusters whatever the F that means.

It's crazy people can't be trusted, time for partial lockdown and for the love of goodness please quarantine incoming travelers!

    Half associated with known outbreaks

    And the other 42 cases?

There's no way of sugarcoating this

Fair fecks to the HSE, they're doing a stellar job with picking up these outbreaks.

What did they say about the app out of interest?

While I think the CMO explained it clearly and said that everything is fine, it seems some posters here will bend over backwards to create cause for alarm from nowhere.

In Ireland 22 deaths were attributed to influenza during the 2019/2020 flu season. 1764 people killed by covid.
There are 109 influenza deaths notified to HPSC so far in the 2019/2020 season.

    https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/influenza/seasonalinfluenza/surveillance/influenzasurveillancereports/20192020season/Influenza_Surveillance_Report_Week_30.pdf

Number of deaths believed to be considerably higher as most not tested and many likely not notified.

Influenza related deaths estimated by HSE to be between 200 and 500 a year despite a vaccination. A bad strain two or three years ago estimated to have caused around 1000 deaths.

Covid-19 related deaths still higher but I don’t like seeing incorrect numbers like the 22 mentioned being quoted.

That would only lead to pub tourism. People from the cities travelling to rural pubs.
Can't see that to be honest, drink driving laws and all that. Plus the locals might not be too receptive.

Glynn praising the outbreak teams, basically saying a few months ago we wouldn't have caught alot of these cases.

It is good but Tony would have said this is what we are doing. Glynn tends not to give out that kind of information unless he's pushed.

Known outbreaks = close contacts of old cases. You've misinterpreted.

Was journalism in the non-modern world any better?

He said he hasn't the data for today's cases re: through the app but there have been a good few contacts picked up in the past

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,010 ✭✭✭GooglePlus

So what are we expecting to happen?

Will our now half arsed social distancing efforts and loose mask awareness stop this upward trend in its tracks?

As containable as these localised outbreaks can be, it doesn't take a whole lot for a few to slip under the radar and gradually kick it off. It's as clear as day.

Factory was closed last Friday, outbreak control team in place since last week - all workers have been tested and there is up to 40 cases.
