How accurate is that one? Or is it known
They claim to have a 91.5% sensitivity 8-14 days post diagnosis, increasing to 98.3% post 15 days.
    Specificity 99.2%.

I decided to take advantage of the virus and look for some deals for overnight accommodation for a night or two. There are fcuk all deals. I was looking at 300 or 400 + for some places. I'm not a huge fan of b and bs and guest houses so that option is out. Mainly looking at hotels. Even looking at some air b+bs for self catering accommodation, prices are a bit scandalous.

55 positive tests over weekend and 20 something cases reported, Idk what theyre doing tbh

Is it possible these are multiple tests on the same person? For confirmation? And then some confirm and some don't?

There's only max 5 of those a day.

Multiple tests on one person, yes. But not to that level. There will be a big increase tomorrow. Just like last week.

I think we should count Monday / Tuesday together and divide by 2.

What exactly is a "survivor of covid" anyone that got it and didn't die?

Can you post a link to this nonsense study I could do with a laugh

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-8565201/Coronavirus-inflict-damage-heart-attacks-study-suggests.html

I doubt they included every Covid case worldwide, but just because it isnt what you want to hear doesnt mean theyre wrong. They could be right, could be wrong, truth is usually in the middle.

The media like everyone else are going to take a big hit from Covid and decreased ad revenue etc. I also cant understand why the government would be desperate for more misery. Maybe you know something i dont

Printed media has been in freefall for a long time before this - no excuse for sensational headlines that are far from the truth of the matter

FF blocked phase 4 because of a tiny increase in numbers - they're like headless chickens running round trying to delay everything because they don't know what they are doing.

I refuse to open any daily mail link.

"75% of all covid survivors suffering changes to their heart, similar to someone who had a heart attack"

That statement is either true or false there is no somewhere in the middle.

Of a 100 people in the study 50 were healthy and no known conditions, 57 had existing heart risk factors (yeah doesn't add up to 100)

So of those 75 people 50+ probably had the condition to start with - sensational headlines again

Are people on the covid payment not under the same rules as people under say unemployment benefit..i.e.they have to inform social welfare that they are going on holiday?

Also, just beca some is a DPO in an office does not mean the know anything about data protection 🙂

It's a blanket condition now - not just PUP, but JSA, means tested payments etc (dunno if it includes disability and the likes)

I didn't think anyone on the dole had to inform their local social welfare office of their holiday plans

Yes They Do! And they always had to. And they get €203 pw not €350 pw. And they continue to get €203 pw. And they have to get permission to take 2 weeks holidays from the the DSP or they will lose the €203pw. Cos they are supposed to be looking for a job like anyone who is unemployed. Not looking to go on holidays.
The Money they get is your Money. My Money. The Government don't have any Money. They use our Money.
Are you happy to pay someone €350 a week to sun himself in Italy for 2 weeks? with Your Money? Our Money? My Money?

German study on survivors of Covid says 75% of them had changes to their heart consistent with a heart attack. What a grim virus this is.

    Link?
I assume this is just among hospitalised patients. An important distinction as it excludes the large proportion of survivors who were not observed in hospital

Yeah it is, I was staying with my sister during lockdown in Bandon, normally I'm resident in Galway, I contacted Intreo and they said they would pay my benefit into the bank, I get it fortnightly now.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Of the 100 patients recently recovered from COVID-19, 67 (67%) recovered at home, while 33 (33%) required hospitalization

Absolutely - no intentions of staycationing in Ireland - can't afford spending hundreds on accommodation in a place a couple of hours drive away, plenty more on food and then cannot even spend a night in a bar having a few drinks whilst enjoying the rain

They actually excluded people with issues before.
If anything this study should be biased against finding heart issues..

You can choose what you wish to believe by all means, thats how religions work. But facts are facts. Its grim reading. In the thread below they are begging cardiologists to prove it wrong.
God, i wish it was wrong. Even asymptomatic people included in study.

Though why we are surprised is anyones guess.
There were studies in feb warning of lung/heart/kidney damage in even mild asymptomatic cases.

    Nasty bug.

While in general that's a good rule to follow too avoid bull**** the fact in mentions legitimate German research suggests it's worth looking for the actual academic study that the article is based off.

It's quite a simple study. People who had it. Look at their heart. Measure a protein. Compare to people who didn't have it.

As **** as this news is I'd be inclined to believe it or at least not discount it. It takes many years to understand how a virus works and what it does.
Conclusions and Relevance In this study of a cohort of German patients recently recovered from COVID-19 infection, CMR revealed cardiac involvement in 78 patients (78%) and ongoing myocardial inflammation in 60 patients (60%), independent of preexisting conditions, severity and overall course of the acute illness, and time from the original diagnosis. These findings indicate the need for ongoing investigation of the long-term cardiovascular consequences of COVID-19.

The second study reference is much more limited in scope and based on people who died from covid so doesn't apply to everyone who gets it.
It's based on autopsies so even more cheery.
