    LATEST TESTING UPDATE

Tests conducted last 24 hours: 8980
Tests conducted last 7 days: 50628
Positive Tests last 24 hours: 16
Positivity Rate last 7 days: 0.2%

Positivity rate is minuscule. Great to see. Know elimination is virtually impossible with risk of imported cases and more people mixing with each other with loosening of restrictions but if cases are identified, isolated and contact traced asap can stay on top of any clusters and live with virus until better treatments or vaccine.

Some models have it at 0.7 and others at 1.4. They know that 0.7 is too low and 1.4 is too high so its somewhere in between.

Is this really where these numbers come from, seems like a strange way of presenting them?

Normally you'd have a preferred model which would give a range in which the R value would fall 95% of the time. This is the range that you would report.

You may then have some secondary models that you would run to check the primary model for "sense".

Guys, looking at the R numbers today made me truly terrified. I haven’t been this scared since the first week of the lockdown. My fear level has gone from six to eight and a half on a scale of ten. I am dreading the next update and petrified that the second wave is around the corner. God help us all.

8 on a scale of 10 for effort....was just a little too much

I was worried we would see an increase with more testing, but great to see the postivity rate falling.

Fantastic to see such a low prevalence of cases here, we have almost defeated the virus on the island.

However we could halve the risk from imported cases by producing a red list for only three countries - USA, Brazil and India.

We could further reduce the risk by over 2/3rds by increasing the number of red list countries to 10, until such time as they get their acts together and deal with the virus like we did.

There is nothing inevitable about imported cases, we can do something to stop them.

Someone I know has Sudden breathing issues.
They also have numbness in one arm and one side of face. Female is early 30s and overweight.
Not looking for medical advice just wondering best way to get medical attention. Never had any history of those symptoms.

They are only in the country recently and never registered with a GP. They are trying frantically to arrange getting go before the weekend.

Didn’t know what to tell them.
Best course of action see a doctor.
Presenting with covid like symptoms I’m sure many wouldn’t want to see here.
What would be the best thing to do.

I said go to hospital if you get worse.

I would have thought contacting the emergency services would have been the obvious decision.
Apparently I'm wrong and Boards is the default for medical situations now.

This is more of a Reddit issue. Boards is more for concussion type injuries.

They are calling an ambulance if deteriorates. Can’t get a doctor appointment. Cheers

Some people have been very unlucky with the number of bad cases that have occurred to their friends, neighbours and families. (Not referring to recent posts, just an observation). I'm glad that my broad positivity hasn't been undone by personal experiences but I guess that's down to the low number of cases.

Boards is really not the place for medical advice.

However I will proffer a very high level "call an ambulance" advisory.

The only 'legless' friends I have are alcohol related.

I got a call off a person out of breath and didn’t know what to tell them as they aren’t registered with GP. Only in the country a couple of months.

I know you are not supposed to rock up in hospital.
Ambulance seems like only option at this stage on Friday.

I was worried for them as with covid and being over weight you might not realise oxygen rate could be depleted and you don’t even know.

Anyway 999 will deal with it.

I don't disagree with that but could still have imported cases from countries with similar risk level. I'd favour mandatory quarantine for travel from high risk areas but doesn't seem to be any will from government to implement

It will be interesting to see what level the cases are in relation to the positive tests

doesn't seem to be a predictor recently

A&E immediately, sounds like it could be a stroke.

Jesus. Immediate 999 call. Should have done it already. I grew up in the UK with F.A.S.T. adverts on the TV all the time about what to do if someone gets a stroke

    F=face weakness
    A=arm weakness

If you have Covid symptoms like coughing/breathlessness but are ok, you should not attend a hospital.

If you have Covid symptoms and are not ok, you should attend a hospital. In general though, you should know/have had a test in the time it can take before getting serious.

Having said all that, one arm/one side of face does sound like a stroke, you should not delay one minute getting to hospital with a potential stroke.

Given her age it's unlikely to be anything too serious but one sided numbness is like the stereotypical sign of stroke or other cardiac issues. She should call an ambulance, you are always advised to if a stroke or heart attack may even be slightly expected

These are the same people who ineptly persist with a painfully slow reopening, in case you were worried about people not following their covid guidance absolutely. Snouts in the trough and part of the reason I prefer not to fully adhere to government advice/guidance.

To be fair its guess work. Nobody knows how this virus will go on this island in the months ahead especially during the winter. One can't really be looking at other countries either as many of them haven't made a proper effort to contain this so called 1st wave like Ireland did.

But the R number only applies to folks with the virus and why its so hard to calculate it currently (as the numbers are probably as low as we will see them for the next couple of months).

Rather childish reason for not following guidelines.

You either think they’re the right policy or not.

It matters not a whit what the decision makers ar paid.

Yes, its the fault of click bait media scum, but more care should be taken not to hand them the bullets, especially with a startling figure for the day like 9 deaths.

Doesn't matter how you hand it to them, they need the click throughs.
