From what I can gather some people were born at 64.

And btw its not dangerous to those under 70 in Ireland

It could be argued that it was too much and hence the complacency now.

We can end the stupidity ourselves if we vote with our feet.

What we need is a huge mass non socially distant protest to frighten the sh1te out of these useless excuse for country leaders. A few hundred thousand marching up O`Connell street would put them right in their place!!!

. Crazy stuff from a spineless government. We need some investigative journalists quickly to keep them on their toes.

Spineless isn't the word. They haven't a breeze. God will strike me down for saying this but Leo was doing a better job of handling this crisis.

    Nothing changes on 10 August.

Now masks mandatory in retail shops?? Retail shops cause clusters of new covid cases?? Pubs do? Italian bars opened since 3rd of June, they mustve had 2nd, 3rd, 4th wave there aye? Fkin idiots in Irish govt its unbelievable.

Name of the game - medical advice. For every person that has died this week WITH BLOODY COVID 19, 15,000 bar workers stayed at home. and continue to stay at home.

Losing 5% GDP extra because of 1 - 2 deaths per week WITH covid........................................................

House party already organised for bank holiday weekend, was planning on heading into town... make the best of a farcical scenario...

There is a rate below which the infection rate just wont drop , without shutting everything bar grocery shops down again. Airports carte blanche... there was a very interesting post, written up by a consultant who posts on boards, basically what the death count the public would tolerate to keep up the various stages of lockdown, let me tell you, his guesses are between twenty to thirty times less than he expected the figure to be, some days there arent even any deaths for ffs!

Oh there will be hell to pay for the financial implications of this, it will go on for years. Lead by rte , " what about the cuts to the most vulnerable in society " the usual bull****....

We have a public who accept way too much **** , a useless media and moron spineless politicians...

As long as eejits happily blame whoever is currently in government for making whatever decision they disagree with, I'm happy to clarify it makes **** all of a difference who is in government as the decision will be the same.

Tony H apprentice says he is concerned with increase in new cases (like cases going from 5 to 15 people kind of thing) from PRIVATE HOUSE PARTIES.

Lets keep them pubs closed and tell people not to host house parties. Moronic beyond belief.

Yeah its gone way too far , I suggest just go to house parties rent Airbnb's etc , they are morons here , but it might sink into their thick skulls , that you are not going to get compliance, after months of spoof and bull****, we don't know when a vaccine might come about ....

    Irish are very tolerant.

Even the farmers protests are peaceful in Ireland, on the continent they turn up to protests with fully laden slurry spreaders.

Head down and get on with it is the working class attitude

Not a bad idea if the weather is good elsewhere, and there are no restrictions either, now where would that be?.

Got to find a supplier for decent rashers and sausages though, a croissant won't cut it every day!

These morons couldnt run an icecream van , are totally risk averse and have zero street smart and they are running/ ruining a country...

It's actually disgusting that lv, mm only care about themselves. The dearth of proper leaders , even if you look at the uk, us , is absolutely mind blowing. It's easily worst here though , just sit on the fence perpetually...

Anyone who’s against a governmental decision is automatically a Sinn Fein supporter? You’ve been ignored every time you’ve said this. Take the hint

The statement is pretty straightforward and obvious. The current government is a coalition of 3, Sinn Fein were the only other plausible alternative.

They're all in agreement with this decision, doesn't matter if Varadkar, Martin or McDonald are taoiseach, the decision on the advice of NPHET would be the same. So stop with the stupid and childish name calling and whinging about the current lot. Just look at the post above this for a convenient example.

I never said what you like to think I said, so I can't have been ignored for it.

For every person who has died with covid this week, we have kept over 15,000 pub staff staying at home, collecting 350 eur per week and waiting for the call to be told they lost their job permanently.

I just dont f*ing get that. Can someone explain this to me? What happened with "we go into lockdown to flatten the curve! Support the healthcare workers!"

If that's 15,000 imagine all the spin off and supply to pub trade jobs... taxis, take aways etc...

5.25 million is 15,000 x 350. Then also you have the loss of employment related revenue, excise duty , vat etc....

I posted it here a couple of weeks ago Ginge. MM and his FF colleagues in cabinet have shifted the government to a more conservative reactionary organisation from a more balanced view. Its the nature of the FF beast. All Martin can think of now is someone saying there were less cases when Leo left.

And I just want to re-iterate, it's not just about the bars - I don't even drink.

It's the constant shifting of goalposts, how the lockdown was initially there to flatten the curve, and now you have some loonies on the radio saying that we need to get to 0 cases!

The fearmongering about travel, despite the fact you are no more likely to get the virus in many countries across europe, as you are in a weekend in Galway. The fact that we have essentially open borders to countries with dangerous levels of covid despite being told we can't travel or do X or Y.

Leo Varadkar 2 weeks ago - All non-essential travel should still be avoided.
Leo Varadkar yesterday - "If you're travelling between Ireland and a country on the A-list or the Green list there'll be no restrictions, and that's based on science, based on the fact that if you're traveling to one of those countries you're no more likely to get the virus there than a weekend in Dublin or weekend in Killarney."

Yes Leo we all knew that weeks ago, yet we had to listen to everyone from Tony to yourself and every randomer who they could find tell us how bad and dangerous travel was! And now it turns out it was fine all along, just like we all effing knew!

The statistics are the following (from Feb 28th to May 15th):
    • Over 65s account for almost 92% of confirmed deaths.
    • In almost 88% of deaths there was an underlying condition.
It is abundantly clear that without the vaccine, we are going to have between 0-30 cases per day for the very forseeable future. The above 2 groups of people can continue to self isolate if they wish, nobody is stopping them. Hell I would if I were amongst that group!

But the idea that ALL of society should continue to be on this permanent pause, because of between 0-30 cases per day when we categorically know who is most vulnerable and who should be taking precautions, is just mental. Especially when we have social distancing implemented nationwide, an abundance of PPE, people working from home etc!

This is as good as it's going to get without a vaccine. Time to just get on with it ffs.
